Title: Dodgy brake light
Post by: RedRummy on April 17, 2007, 02:07:44 PM
Was told after going for a spin that when I press the brake, one of my taillights goes out and no brake light appears.

Its only one of the four lights, and th tail light in that section works fine, expect when I press the brake they both go out...

Should the tail light go out when the brake is pressed? So this could be just a blown brake bulb?

Or is something getting confused?

And don\'t tell me... brake lights cost upwards of £50 each and have to shipped from Japan :spank :spank

That sounds more like a faulty earth. Check the earth connections and wires.

Maybe you got the wrong bulb in there,  take it out and see if its a twin element ??

The lamps are not earthed within themselves as they are plastic - the earth for the rear is bolted to the rear body under the tailgate striker. But the problem may be due to a broken wire or something shorting out. With a helper to press the pedal and an elecy tester you could sort it out quite easily.

I doubt it\'ll be anything to do with any earths in the engine bay. But you never know, I\'ve had weirder things make brakes and indicators go bonkers.

Never needed to replace a bulb yet, and assumed it has been working fine since i bought it (probably a rash assumption!)

OK, thanks, I\'ll have a fish around...
I\'ll add it to the list of stuff to sort out :Hammer
