Title: Radiator Fans not working??
Post by: Jim_rx7 on April 14, 2007, 12:22:32 PM
I\'ve never witnessed my radiator fans come on.... never.

Now I\'m just getting a bit paranoid with the hot weather and everything that they\'re possibly dead?

Basically, I don\'t want the engine over heating on me now that the weather is warming up.

Is there some way to test the fans operation? How hot does it need to be for them to come on? I just drove a mile up the road and expected them to be on because it\'s so warm outside.

I read somewhere that putting the A/C makes the fans come on? Is this even the case if your A/C needs regassed?

Any help appreciated!! :)

Mine has a switch, stays on all the time mate. They get hot pretty quickly.

you would have already blown your car by now if they didnt work.

if you put the aircon on then they start to spin.

Dont want to worry you Jim ! my fans did\'nt come on either at first, they came on with AC on, but were not getting a signal from the Thermoswitch, (sensor behind the stat housing ) it turned out that the wire from the Thermo to the solenoids had broken down, i only found this out for sure when i changed my Thermoswitch for one rated at 96 deg (early model )instead of the standard one 106 deg, this single wire sensor controls the fans direct, (not via the ecu which uses another sensor ) sat in traffic long enough and i can hear the fans come on which take the temp down from 100 down to 90 in about 1 minute, as shown on an aftermarket gauge, but if you want to be sure if you think its getting too hot. do as you are switch AC on

Is there an easy way to test the operation of the fans? To make sure they are coming on etc when they should be??

Can you take a pic of where this sensor is, and I\'ll have a look. I can just do a continuaty (sp) test on it (from sensor to fan connection) to make sure the wire is ok. Anything else to check?

As someone said though, if they weren\'t working, my engine would be dud already?
