my remote cental locking and alarm has seemed to have stopped working
the doors lock with the key OK and the imboliser is fine
just that you can open the doors with the fob
now i have been having probs with the car battery and when i reconnected it , it used to lock the doors and put the alarm on ( which i did with the keys in the ignition - thank god for a spare set )
but now , when i took the earth lead off and put it on again nothing happened and the panic button in the car has stopped working
SO
do you assume that a fuse has gone somewhere - would the alarm have a seperate in line fuse ?
where do people hide alarms in cars ( and no im not a car theif ! )
its a madza finishline alarm and looks like it was supply/fit by mazda
can anyone shed some light on this for me
thanks
Stu

i\'ll ask me dad when I see him ... he\'ll of been on the fitting course for all the Mazda fitted alarms ... Its usualy the black box that goes wrong though = new alarm, but like you say it could be somthing simple so its well worth checking
thanks matey
thats very kind of you :)
but feel free to keep the idea\'s coming !
thanks
stu
and to make it worse the company who made the alarm called cell ( ? ) went bust many many moons ago - typical eh !

i know it s a diffrent alarm but...my clifford on my previous car use to do this have to checked your batt. life ? maybe the batterys gone hence why it dosen t have the power to arm/disarm??
shaq
neither key fob works ( and they used to ! )
and the car battery has enough juice to start and run the car , and lock the doors with the key - so not sure
the only thing i can think of , is run jump leads to another car that is running and see if it works then
any more idea chaps ???
how about the batterys in the key fob?

I\'ve been told that it could be the interface for the central locking ... There should also be a small bank of fuses near the alarm box which could have blown.
Another culprit may be the drivers door motor (sometimes this is what actuates both doors)
There should be an alarm box somewhere in the car, it is usually in the glove box area, but as it was down to the choice of the tech installing the alarm it could be in a different place.
Mike
remote still not working :(
i will have a look for a bank of fuses near the alarm ( if i can find the darn thing ! )
i have noticed a bank of 4 fuses on the passenger side wing ( under the bonnet ) and im not sure if they are the alarm fuses - or something that should be on a turbo II anyways ( they are near the main fuses - the EGI and head light ones )
im just waiting for a nice day so that i can have a crawl round the car , i think the main place to start is by the ECU as thats where im hoping it "should" be - at the end of the day i cant even see the alarm sounder under the bonnet !!
im hoping its something simple as i bet its an expensive job to have another alarm fitted that does the central locking ?????
and also the drivers door lock is really still , and im bending the key trying to lock it ( unless this has something to so with the alarm - but i thought that it would still put the alarm on )
thanks for the advice peeps
Stu
just bumping this back to the top
the bank of fuses in the engine seem just fine - all the fuses are OK !
i took the glove box out and found the alarm box ( or so i think ) as there are 2 boxes in there - a big black one and a red one
so i think one is the alarm and one the imobiliser
the black box has about 10 wires coming out of it , but noticable there is a grey wire with a spade connector on the end that isnt plugged into anything - SO - anybody got an idea where this goes ( i doubt it mind you :( )
MikeLMR - you dad wouldnt happen to have a wiring diagram for the alarm would he by any chance ?? - failing this i can take some piccies and see if that would help ?
the central locking is still working fine - so i cant see it being a motor - the only thing i did notice is that the passenger door doesnt unlock all the doors - not sure if that makes a difference though ?
would the alarm have some fuses on the INSIDE of it ?? should i be looking for an inline fuse maybe ?
i will have to take some piccies and pray that someone has an answer to this little problem
Thanks again guys for your help so far
Stu
The passenger door shouldn\'t unlock both doors ... only the drivers door should do that. sounds like you have a dead alarm box. trouble is they tend to have plain coloured wires to prevent would be thieves from cutting the right wires using the colour code.
If its the box thats at fault by far the easiest thing to do is have another one fitted and have them remove the old one at the same time. Most alarm fitters should have no problem with that.
or if you are feeling brave you could trace the wires back to the loom, work out which is which and buy a new alarm and fit it yourself using the existing wiring. (will save a bit of time)
Regards,
Mike
at the end of the day , im not gonna fit a new alarm - its just not worth it - my main thing is i cant figure out where this grey wire should go !!
all the wires are colour coded - thats why i could do with a wiring diagram - but i cant see me finding one
:(
I had a problem with mine, the issue was with the remote unit itself, no-one could re-code it and unfortunatly it was auto arming the immobiliser too, so I had to disconnect the whole thing! If your immobiliser is still working, I wouldn\'t go dinking with the alarm wiring! If you move/cut or connect the wrong one you could lose your immobiliser circuitry too and you don\'t want to end up forking out £400 for a CAT 1 system like I had too! Annoying as it is, unless you want the expense, I\'d just get used to using the key :o
the imobilser is a complete seperate one , thats why im not that bothered about it - its just that the RCL only worked for about 3 months from buying the car - and i miss it now :(
like i have said - there is a grey wire that is just hanging loose from the alarm - but not sure what it does ( thats if it is the alarm box ??? )
ontop of all this - i dont know if the alarm is a complete aftermarket one - or actually fitted to the car as standard ??
i know the rx7\'s did come with some sort of alarm - but i dont know what !!
after reading then net - some people say it could be a dry joint in the cpu - but again not sure if that has anything to do with the alarm !
i wish i could get a wiring diagram for it - if i new what this grey wire did - i could just plug it back in somewhere
but the alarm just seemed to die all of a sudden - but i i have noticed that on the odd occassion the LED lights for alarm have been lit - now i have no idea how thats happened - as i cant arm the damn thing ?????
unless you know what make the alarm is its going to be nearly impossible to find a wiring diagram. I\'m not sure what brand of alarms mazda used to fit ... I think it could even vary from dealer to dealer :(
well according to the fob - its a mazda finishline alarm unit
not sure if this is standard mazda fitment or what ????
could be anything ... its like the stereo\'s they were made by Clarion but branded as finish line. I would have thought if it was a finish line one it would have been standard across the UK though. Have you tried asking the local mazda dealer if they have any information on it (they can be helpfull sometimes ... especially if you are buying some parts at the same time)
yeah i spoke to the local bolton branch who are the best in the area and they told me that the company went bust ages ago - apart from that they wasnt much help to be honest !
not sure if pip @ WGT would have a clue or not ?
