How do I go about removing the air pump folks, and what do I all need? IE, different pulleys, different belt etc??
I did do a search, but couldn\'t find much on it tbh.
I\'ve removed mine but the whole engine is out. Basically you will need a couple of blanking plates and a new belt :)
ANy more info on these "blanking plates"?
I\'ve noticed MRP sell a belt which enables you to remove the air pump.
So you need different pulleys also?
Been on the phone to WGT and they said that I would need the air pump in to pass the MOT with my car being a UK car.
Saying that, I know a nice garage that would pass the car regardless.
They also said that I need to keep it in with me still having a pre-cat in place. I do have a Jap stock downpipe sitting here waiting to go on, but the main cat has already been removed on the car so I can\'t really completley decat the car without getting a PFC.
So... no removing the air pump for me just now! ... lol.
When I told them it had a precat and no main cat, the response I got was....
"that\'s the wrong way round" ..... lmao.
Thats\'s how the car came!!!

Hi Jim,
The belt we supply enables you to keep the standard pulleys with means that unlike the aftermarket pulley sets your water pump operates at the speed it was designed to and not slower.
We supply the belt to remove the Air pump and the plates for £51.42 delivered.
Hope this helps
Cheers mate. I\'ll bear it in mind for when I get the pre-cat removed, so I can remove the air pump.

Hi Clive
I have now greddy aftermarket pullys, is that going to be aproblem with my water pump? Am I OK? Air pump has been removed. Water temp is at constant 80C in this weather while driving...

Personally i would buy the proper oversized pulleys for the waterpump. You get more contact area on the belt than the standard pulley so less chance of slippage and it also looks cool. The oversized pulleys are also knurled for extra grip, something the standard waterpump pulley does not have. It underdrives the waterpump and alternator but not by much at all. They might even give you better throttle response. If they are good enough for 600+bhp engines they are good enough for mine imo

Thanks foir that
...yep, thy are a touch bigger and have groves and alsdo the do look the business, mine are red..

Hi Michael, Robbie,
Yep I agree they look cool but/
You have underdrive pulleys to slow the water pump down at constant high revs to stop possible cavitation where the impeller literally stops pumping water, however this only applies on race cars and my personal objection and why we sourced a short dive belt for my own car is that it\'s a road car and if your sitting in motorway traffic on a hot day you need a pump that\'s pumping properly at the speed it was designed to.
Even though my yellow car was a show car and won something like 20 awards I still went for function over bling.
I will add that all the above is just my own personal opinion and me being paranoid about keeping rotarys with a good water flow around them.

This choice seems to differ amongst people and tuners so it\'s take yer pick I guess. I didn\'t get the pulleys for the bling factor.

It makes sense I guess - so what would you suggest for someone like me who had the airpump removed and pullies changed - go back to standard pullies and use your belt? Is the problem really when we sit in trafic?
I do value your opinion a great deal...

Ah now here\'s the problem, my post above is my opinion and anyone reading it must make up their own mind.
On a 12a engine, with the air pump removed, I allways got slippage. What would be really useful would be a toothed belt arrangement, ie new pulleys on engine, water pump and alternator. Does anyone do them?
