Title: Cracked heat sheild
Post by: RedRummy on April 07, 2007, 08:48:26 PM
Hi,

The heat sheild above the exhaust back box has cracked (suspect its just a heat fracture)...  It moves and the crack is getting worse as I drive, and I can hear it rub when I go over bumps...

Can I get it welded, or should I just get a new one...

How much would these things cost?

Here is a piccy...  its a bit crap, but you can see the crack

I\'d look at riviting a strengthening plate in, but I\'m not great at bodywork, just an engineer.

Riviting a plate in will do it or just get another bit of metal and bend it rounds and attach it.

Had the rear wheel off the other day to replace the rear pads and noticed the same thing.

OK, cheers guys... will try and fix it...

Mine must\'ve been like that for ages too, but its only recently \'torn\' enough to start squeaking as it rubs together.

The crack is prolly about 30-40cms long..
