After extolling to the trouble & strife the virtues of my much-delayed FD, I took it out for a spin last night.
And the oil pressure gauge went all mental on me :( - looks like a bit of a bad contact initially but given that it seems to display a pressure "floor" with the engine running I\'ve got a nasty suspicion (call it hope, actually because the alternative would be far, far worse) that it\'s the sender.
Anybody in the SE got a known good sender I can borrow if cleaning and checking the connector doesn\'t make a difference?
Oh, and I also assume that they\'re not supposed to read around 120 lb/in at approx 3.5k, right?
Great, the money\'s on a duff contact.
Why? The friggin\' spade connector broke off in my hand when I tried to remove it from the sender unit to see if it needed a clean. I\'ve got a pro crimp kit so I hope I can put another connector on but this is one awkward place for the connector.
I think the car hates me.
Dont feel victimised Tim, cars hate everyone. Its only us that have the love affair with cars.
Oil pressure gauge issue is a common problem mate. Mine is very iffy when and if it decides to work.
I\'ve got a new gauge sitting waiting to go in once I get a sandwhich plate.
Well, apart from the 120 lb/in reading, the gauge is working again. The cable to the sender unit was more than duff (when I started stripping the insulation to crimp on a new connector, another half-inch or so broke off) but I managed to bodge a spade connector on. Need to remember to ask RoTechniks if I can redo it when I\'m at their place in a week for the initial service - the cable so short that I didn\'t have a chance to access it properly from above; acess from below should be better so I could recrimp it in a somewhat more useful fashion.
The oil pressure gauge is a common problem on nearly all FD\'s I believe.... I don\'t really look at/believe anything it says, just remember to check the dipstick often and you\'ll be fine.:Thumbsup!
