Title: Gen 2 Oil Cooler
Post by: mpk490p on April 05, 2007, 05:21:04 PM
Hi guys, i want to fit a oil cooler to my gen 1 series 3 (it has the water/air coolled fins under the oil filter)
i would of thought a second gen one would be easier to find and probably more efficent but will it fit with the standard pipes?
i have a 13b 4 port engine

thanks
Mark

Don\'t know about fitment - the Gen 2 cooler has some pretty large pipe feeds - banjo style onto th right hand side of the cooler.  I will measure up the cooler length later today when we are out working on the wifes motor - so at least you have dimensions.

The coolers are known to develop cracks near the pipe joins, which results in some oil loss/leaks - very difficult to weld I am told, as you can\'t easily get all the oil out of the crack.  That said, the stock oil cooler is capable of handling cooling for a lot of power.

Ok measurements - it\'s about 5" high, 23" long - mounting centres seem to be about 22" - but don\'t take my word on that - I couldn\'t get in to measure it easily - and it\'s about 2" thick.  The oil pipes connect top and bottom-side on Banjo bolt mounts - the stock hoses look about an inch thick :2eek

Hope that\'s some help - pic from service manual included :
