Been checking out the fuel smell threads the last few days. as there is an absolute stink coming out my front vents things inside the car when stopped in queues junctions etc, has always been a faint smell since i got it but the last few days.. its been eye watering nasty!. From reading the posts it seems the likely cause of it going to be the pulsation damper.. :2eek
So has anyone got any step on how to get to it, advice, anything we need to look out for or anything we need to know before we start taking off the UIM. Also does one need to release the pressure in the fuel system before hand?
I know I should be sad as I cant drive it till its fixed but I\'m all excited as this is the first proper job we have had to do on it.. time too see what’s under the hood!! ( not that I\'m doing it I\'ll just watch :D).. woohoo :Laugh

The pulsation damper is number 10 in this photo (on the rear (bulkhead side) of the primary rail just before fuel enters the rail.
Getting to it is gonna be a nightmare! I reckon at the minimum, you will have to remove:
inlet elbow, UIM and Throtle body, coils, fuel lines from rats nest nr oil filter, rats nest. You might have to pull the whole rail off the housing if you dont have a screwdriver bit for your ratchet....hell you might have to pull it anyway!
:eek. sounds like this is going to be a pain in the arse. is there anything else it might be or should check before we start taking the car to bits to find this PD?
O that sounds like a horrible job :S good luck flo lol
Hello by the way im Craig fae Ayrshire lol, are you going to the knockhill meet on the 15th :D
well if youre sure the car has a fuel leak inside the engine bay, it can only really be coming from that area near the LIM and ontop of the block where the rails are located. You can check the fuel lines where the enter the engine bay from the pasenger side quite easily without removing anything. If it aint coming from there and youre sure theres a leak in the bay, then youll have to pull all of the above to get to the injectors!
Its when youre doing this job that you wish you were non-sequential!
Ah right so there is no getting out of it then just going to have to do it..as I\'m sure, it smells like pure petrol thru the vent, smells of fuel round the uim area as well when you life the bonnet.
Do you need to release the fuel pressure first? suppose you have to if you are taking off the fuel lines. lol. sorry cluess person here. :D I\'m just watching, the bloke doing it is a mechanic just not a rotary one. :eek2
Hi Craig, thanks and erm no I wont be.. :Laugh
:Laugh Ah well we just decided to get stuck in.. its lovely under there.. :Laugh.
Lol nice one jus jump in we both feet.. i also do :p
:Laugh yeah its a lovely. we have reached the PD..
was it the PD that was leaking then?
Dont know yet, didnt take out the rats nest fully just remove a few of the pipes, so we could see it, so will keep you posted on that, there is defo something not right under there. just finding it is the pain! we thought we would call it a day at that. we did find an oil puddle from a leakin hose, so goin to have to get some to replace the broken one, some of the hoses have been done some hasnt, so thought we might just get that out and replace the ones that havent while we are in there? good or bad idea? lol..
hi flo long time no speak
i had the same problem but it wasnt the pd dont know what it was but it went away.
hope you have fun in the nest as its a lovely job lol
hello mikey! how you doing? yeah when I did my serach I saw that you had. Did you replace the FPD anyway?
Getting stuck into tomorrow i think. either that or we are just fixing the obvious things, then booking it at WGT to get looked at, if he will have us.. :Laugh. All depends on how brave my mate is feeling tbh. will maybe stick up some photos of what we do and how it goes... :Laugh
