when ever i start my car be it from cold or warm (once left for about an hour or two, oil temps still at 35ish), there is a lovely nice cloud of smoke (blue) for a short while, when the car is warm ( or after a short while) it seems to clear.
cant notice anything on boost such as smoke etc, either it just clears or i cant see it.
the turbo has done less than 7k?
turbo technics T70
Don\'t think that\'s the turbos, these engines drink oil. Any smoke when shifting gear at high rpm/load? If not and no shaft play then I\'d say you\'re ok.
i know they drink oil, but this aint right that is for sure, has only been doing it a little over a week tops. i never checked shaft play in all honesty, will look in the morning.
i cant notice any spoke at high rpm on boost, but i havent had anyone follow me to check yet.
something aint cricket, thats all i know. on sopeaking to mates who have owned or still own turbo cars, they think it looks like the turbo. hope not but, think it will have to be checked out
i would guess turbo as there isnt much more that could result in that type of symptom. ie the carslowly leaks oil from a seal in the turbo and then burns it on startup maybe?
you can meet me tomorrow after work in hapenden if you want and ill follow ya as i work there anyway mate.
just realised i dont always take my car! you could come to luton or pick me up on the way if you like mate. just a thought.
you spoken to pip yet?
Drop a inlet pipe off and see how much oil is inside it. There should be a light film but not bucket loads.

inlet pipe? as in intercooler to elbow?
yup............
Well my mates car did exactly that and his was a Turbo seal that was faulty.
On his you could tell quite easy, if you drove it realy hard then did\'nt let it cool down properly it would smoke realy bad but if you drove it off boost and min throttle it would\'nt smoke at all.
Keep an eye out for Smoke on the Over run, thats the next sign.
mine has a little puff of smoke when i shift high in the revs flat out. is this normal?? its a straight throught exhaust if that makes any difernace??
That usaly means one of two things. Your running more boost than the Turbo can handle or your Oil seals are getting worn.
Best test is after a Good run get some one to follow you boot it up to 6k in third then take your foot off the gas and let it run down on its own to say 3k. If your Turbo\'s seals are Goosed you will see Blue smoke.
there is what i would say not excessive shaft play, and at looking at the IC pipe that comes from the turbo to IC there seem like there is no oil in it at all. the bottom of my IC is dry. should i look at the other side from the IC to the elbow, or will it make no difference
Sam, unlucky mate, you aren\'t having the greates of luck with it atm..
Sounds like the tub. I blew an oil seal on the twins, it would only smoke on tickover as soon as you throttled it the smoke was gone.
is it ok to drive, it better be as i dont really have a choice, lol
yeah just keep an eye on oil levels, and the plugs will foul up mega fast..
If yo have a oi catch tank, check that the breather pipe to it has not got a twist or a kink.
