Title: where to get service parts?
Post by: mraraju on January 10, 2004, 01:28:40 PM
Hi

I was hoping someone can help.

I need to service my rex its a 93 type r2 i believe. The car has uprated filters and an exhaust although there still is an cat.

According some of the sercive details it has mobil oil in there.

I have managed to locate the plugs and oil filter, but the oil is a nughtmare. Can anyone recommend where to get the oil from. I am under the impression the car should have 10/30 mineral oil only?

Any place i go to seems to think to buy synthetic. And none believes the car is a 1.3!!!!! I am tired of getting into an argument with every place i go to for some crappy oil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also the part numbers for the plugs are

bur9eqp do you think that i should get the 7\'s as well instead of having 9\'s all round.

Thx in advance

Raju

why do they need to know what car its for ? just ask for some 10W30 Mineral oil.

my 1st gen runs on thicker stuff but I use either Valvoline Racing or Castrol GTX

Castrol GTX 10W30 should be available from Halfrauds ... only cost about £12 for 5 litres when I serviced the volvo IIRC

is the castrol gtx stuff mineral?? or does this not matter as long as it is 10w/30w,

Just had almost an argument but i stopped myself as i could not be arsed. He is saying the car is 2.6 and you cannot get that much power out of a 1.3. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Why do people have to be like this!!!! he prolly has not seen a rex in his life. I will happily eat humble pie if it turns out to b a 2.6 though. But the thing is his book also shows a 2.3 turbo?? is this the gen 2??

Thx

I think its called GTX classic or somthing like that ? had a quick look and the stuff I used in the Volvo was 10W40 (not sure if thats OK for an FD)

the FD is a 1308CC rotary engine ... due to its design it is more comparable to a 2.616L piston engine ... hence 2.6

the 2.3 is probably the 1st gen. The 12a engine is 1146CC\'s or nearly 2.3 litres

thx for that bit for info,

Ive asked at halfords they say that castrol do not do a mineral 10/30 oil. All the 10/30 are apparently semi synthetic???

So should i ask for castrol gtx classic 10w/30w mineral oil???

please someone help me find some mineral oil!

Thx

No, as long as you stick to mineral oil with a rating somewhere near 10W30 the car will be fine.  Mazda themselves now recommend 10W40 as 10W30 is near enough impossible to get hold of.

Different specialist all over the world recommend different kinds of oils, some even change the oil depending on the time of year.  I\'ve run my car on 15W40 since day one with no probs.

good luck from etting mineral oil from anywhere. Already tried halfords and there all eggheads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ask for 10w/30w mineral and the point me to synthetic. Everyone has a mental block about mineral!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am seriously getting pissed off!!!!!! all i f*************************** want is mineral oil how hard is that??????????????

Any way i am gonna try ordering some monday! hopefully, i phoned a cretin up who sed he can order it fri/sat if i went down. Went down saturday "oohhhh we cant order anything on the weekend, sorry!"

ANyway if you want plugs i can get 9\'s for £40 for 4, im not sure on the 7\'s though. Most peeps get them from the same price at motor factors and or halfords.

Any way if anyone know where i can for 100% go in and buy mineral at the appropriate grade please let med know.

Thanks

Raju

Ur joking!!!! ive already been they dont have any!!

Have you bought halfords own brand??? Ross has recomended castrol gtx 10w/30w mineral.

Aparently it exists!! so im gonna try this if not halfords again. Which branch did u get it from??? i think the rex needs 10w/30w but may be ok with 10/40. Its just a great car that i dont want to risk it.

Thx for the info though si

yeah this was the castrol not sum halfords special but as i say was 10W40 as i was unaware of there being a 30 variety, i no when i asked about the slightly better castrol stuff & the possibility of getting sum in the gist was no cant get any one offs what you see is what you get but as halfords already clearly get this 10W40 i shuda thought yer branch if it\'s a small un will be able to get it in.....
Got mine from the Halfords in Nuneaton which is a superstore type jobby.....
