I cant seem to stop my alternator belt slipping, i want to convert to FD style belts but the water pump pulley is set back (see piccy) and runs the opposite direction to an FC, the alternator and crank would be easy enough to change but i need to make the belt go round the water pump.
Any ideas?
is the main pulley that is polished? I had terrible trouble on my rally car and it was the main pulley that had lost it\'s "grip" for want of a better word. swapped it over and the problems went with it
Belt dressing may help Tony any good motorist store will sell it. Its one of those old things that no one uses nowadays but it does work.

Mike, do you mean the crank one? it probably is by now, i have been through several belts and they all slip in the lower gears so its effectly being polished by the belts.
I will look up belt dressing, do you know if thats the proper name kev?
Or you could try roughing up the section the belt runs in with some sand paper??
Jono
Yes thats the proper name Tony do a quick search and it will throw up a few of them. It conditions the belts makes them more grippy but not sticky. For use on flat and v belts.

I had a problem with the belts being the wrong size fot the Pulleys (v not wide enough and bottoming out)
I only relised the V\'s where diffrent sizes when i went into halfords looking for a set to go on my T2 and noticed there where a few belts that where very simalar size but the V\'s where wider. The pair of belts i ended up fitting where basicly raised out of the groove (unlike the ones that i change that where alot thinner and would guess they where touching the bottom of the Pulley groove)
