Bit hard to see what it is, it could be the level sensor for the coolant. I think the temp sensor is on the back of the pump.
Have a look at this link http://www.wankel.net/~krwright/files/manuals/parts_manuals/94
pdf of parts catalouge for a 94 FD

I have a water pump here and that part isn\'t in the housing. Have you got a separate water temp gauge in the car, looks like somebody has drilled and tapped a sensor into the housing. Have you tried tracing the cable in the car ?
What year car is it ??
Shaun
i havent got that either must be after market?? sorry not much help
Mine doesn\'t have that sensor either!
Just checked on mine & I havent got that plug..... Have you got any after market HKS gauges or something???
This is what a stock one looks like in that general area:
The loose plug by the aulternator is for the airpump!!
thanks for the input i havent installed any thing and i dont have no extra gauges so do you think its a aftermarket water temp as when i got it from japan a lot of things where removed witch i have found the remains of scattered around is this another one.
it is a common place to tap in an aftermarket temp gauge sender
My 91 manual engine doesnt have that hole either but i just bought a replacement engine from a 94 auto and was told that the water temp sensor would be missing and that hole is empty, so dont if later engines had the hole or just autos.
Hope thats of some help
Cheers Danny
