Title: Removing bar...
Post by: Ricco_04 on March 30, 2007, 09:17:21 PM
Don\'t know the correct name for it, so I have attached a piccie :)  I have noticed on a few of the FC\'s out there that they have the lower front bar that the wiring loom and horns etc mount too, removed.

I guess this is ok to do as some of you have already done so?

It looks a bit structual to me so :
Do you notice any difference?
If is best to leave it there?

thanks, Ricco.

i have never seen a FC without one to be honest

at a guess i would say its structural - its a fair size and i cant see them adding soooo much weight for nothing

is there a reason for removing it ??

I believe from memory (so could be whhhhhhhhhey wrong) that 88GTR has his removed too.

The only reason to remove for myself was the airflow/ducting/weight issue - I imagine the rest are done for the sale reason - also I have seen a couple rusted where they mount to the chassis.

I think i agree with Stu on this one.   Jon (88gtr) has a full cage which will make the car more rigid and can probably get away without the bar

That bit IS structural, unless you have added stiffening somwhere else I would leave it well alone.  And rust here is a 100% MOT failure too.

Would have thought the only reason for removing it is to make engine removal easier. That and the other bars. But even then it would need to be replaced by a bolt in replacement. This will stop the chassis from flexing with the engine torque.

Leave it alone :p

Engine removal is easy providing you remove the rad ;)

Thanks for the reply\'s guys :Thumbsup! Thought it was structual so had already removed any rust & repainted but had to ask just in case.  I had even thought about chopping it out and putting a home made thicker/stronger one in to help the chassis out that little bit more.

Just come back in - I really need a blaster on this rust

Yeah waiting on ebay for the piping but in the meantime cant get the damn front bumper off as its pretty restrictive, just this minute finished the battery relocation, had that done from start to finish in about 2hrs, well chuffed and the car never set on fire lol,  just got the p/s pump to sort tomor. Anyone know if ordinary Vacuum Hose will do for PS pipes as the guy i brought the saxo pump off had cut them real short!

I will be removing my front bumper soon so any guidence will be useful

the main pipe is high pressure so will need a proper fitting, the return is low pressure so normal fuel hose will do it.  Coolant hose may not agree with the fluid.

thats it, i dont really have any pics as you cant see it unless you are underneath the car.  But yes as mike says, just twist the top forwards and slide it back until it meets the bottom of your rad like a reverse V mount.  It works great and your water temps will thank you for it.

Where did you get the elbow coming out of the throttle body from?

Also, what turbo are you running,  looks like i may have some competition :)

found some pics, not very good or upto date but the i/c and rad havent moved, i\'m using the stock rad fan now though as its much better

Ha i wish, this picture i found whilst doing some research for fitting my FMIC so not my car i\'m afraid. looking pretty similar though apart from i have stock turbo running. The elbow i\'ll be using is from greddy should be pretty simpleish as i have no battery or P/S in the way. Do like the idea of a flat mount though, will prob have some more q\'s tomor when i go and suss it out. Will start a new thread with some current piccs tomro adternoon.

I\'ll sort something out bud - Will have to pop up and say hi so may as well have a crack at it then if you like?  I am, unfortunately ;) in Kidderminster!

Thanks for the comment\'s about the TII :)

I have been playing around with some design\'s for the radiator\'s setup, have a few drawings but may even ditch the stock oil cooler and get 2 aftermarket ones (like the FD setup)
