Guys,
I\'ve just finished fitting a big IC to my FD, in the process ive removed the air pump and emissions solenoids etc, put a decat on it, downpipe etc etc. I have a PFC but its not fitted yet. Ive got a family do on sunday and i fancy posing in my flash car but i don\'t want to take it up there if its not safe to drive.
I would like to take it, and i won\'t be boosting if i do take it up there - but is it safe to drive the car out of boost with a decat on the standard ECU with a big IC? Would i be better fitting the PFC? It came second hand so i have no idea what map is on it but i hear PFCs learn what mods you have when you fit them? will i need to reset it before fitting it or should i just leave it off and not boost? or not drive it at all?
Answers on a postcard please :)
Cheers
Personally I wouldnt like to drive in either scenario as:
a.) You might be over boosting unless you\'ve got a boost controller installed?
b.) As you said you\'ve got no idea of what map is on the PFC.
I know what you mean about wanting to pose thou! :D
Well the plan was not to boost at all...
Upto you mate, still wouldnt risk it if it was me though. Although mine has a habbit of messing up just if you look at it wrong!
a pfc with base map on should be fine for a straight through exhaust system, and aftermarket air filters. You would be fine to drive around for a little while off boost before getting it mapped.
However, you do not know what map is on there, so I would advise against fitting the unit just yet.
driving on the stock ecu with those mods is not a good idea..

I agree, i drove 190miles to wgt on the motorway with base mod map on pfc averaging 80mph. Mine is decatted with 3" straight through with greddy smic and Cone filters. As long as the revs are under 4000 you should be ok. I would definitley fit the pfc if your gonna use the car.
really and truly the base map is perfectly safe for filters and exhaust. you can boost around and have fun.
but you are a bit of a lemon if you have the thing fitted and don\'t get it mapped, simply because of the power gain to be had, and extra safety factor of course
The base map on the pfc is quite rich. You should be ok just don\'t be silly. Stay off boost. Once its tuned the difference can be amazing !

i would have thought the extra boost the exhaust would have allowed would have been swallowed by the bigger ic?
Its more a case of a much free flowing system and the intake charge being much colder. There needs to be alot more fuel put in the map !
Shaun
I am ging to get it mapped.
Took it out for a drive today. Just tested the boosting of the car, boosts 9psi up to 4500 then at 4500 shoots up to 15! Then i let off...need to do some troubleshooting i guess.
Drives fine though, did 60 miles today - car was sweet as a nut on the standard ECU keeping it under 3k and no boost. Thats all i want to do for now, need to go places in it (up to a friends workshop to finish ducting etc)
Looks like you will need some bigger injects soon then ! Then the fun begins :D
Shaun
or just fix the boost issue so it boosts 10psi like it should? lol.
Boost pattern is 10-15-11 ish but cant get to see it very well. Any ideas people?
fit the pfc, you can then restore factory settings through the commander, so no worries as to what it had been mapped to previously. As long as it doesn\'t overboost, which it could well with those mods you would be fine giving it some. I would stick the pfc in, restore factory settings and give it a test boost to see where it goes, if it starts getting too high I\'d drive carefully until its mapped.
