Title: High Idle on first gen RX7
Post by: ahm on March 28, 2007, 06:04:05 PM
Hi there,

Recently bought a 1984 rx7, runs OK but would like to give it a good tune up (doesnt idle below 1500rpm).  Wondering if there is anyone in the Peterborough area that could give me a hand or point me in the right direction.

Cheers
Andrew

Maybe the throttle is not closing fully,or there could be an inlet manifold leak, maybe a pipe off below the throttle.

Check theres still clearance on the throttle dashpot. Thats the bellows type thing just above the throttle linkage on the carb. It needs a clearance on the plunger when the throttle\'s shut.

Mine always idles just under that when i have a good bit of petrol in it.. When its low on petrol it idles lower.. I always thought it was just gettin good fuel pressure and thats y it was idleing that high!!

had a good look at the car yesterday, in good condition but played with by a fool!! (Previous owner) The idle and mixture screws were turned in fully and they had adjusted the throttle cable out to keep it running which caused the high tick over (im surprised it ran atall) we got the tick over sorted set up the timing and the mixture, she seemed to be running a lot better and ticked over nicley
Andrew how she running now you have given her a good run out?
