I have a set of 8.5 KV Magnecor ignition leads to replace my existing worn leads.
I will be changing these at the same time as my full set of plugs.
I will be doing this on the drive, standing over the car working under the bonnet.
What engine parts or ancillary parts will I have to remove from under the bonnet to be able to gain access to the old leads and replace with the new leads easily?
I know I will have to remove or raise the strut brace and take off the turbo elbow. Anything else?
You\'ll need to remove the throttle body for better access, but thats about it.
Fish
Just had a stab at it tonight doing plugs and leads. Did it from above under the bonnet.
Have to raise the strut brace.
Remove the turbo elbow, throttle body and oil filler neck.
Bit of a nightmare compared to a conventional engine.
About half way there. Finish it tomorrow night. Did rotor one leading plug (7EQP) and rotor one trailing plug (9EQP) as well as remove all of the leads and install the Magnecors. Just got to do rotor two\'s plug. Connect everything back together, re-attach all of the components
and away we go with any luck.
Those spark plugs are blighters to get to! Little buggers! lol. No wonder servicing costs so much on these.
Going to do the AST at the same time also. Changing the OE one to a Pettit Racing one with Race cap.
P.S: - took around 2.5 hours to reach that stage. Probably only need another 1.5 hours to finish off.
Good going, let us know how the new leads and plugs change your car on idle. As you know i have a similar problem so may be changing the leads to at a later date.
