Hi guys, i appear to be running on one turbo :( ive done a little back ground reserch onto the posible cause\'s of such broken/cracked/blown pipe stuck/duff solanoid.
what i get is:
when i drive in say 3rd and poor on the power the boost raises up to 0.72 (what its set to on the EBSIII) as soon as it get around 4 - 5k rpm the boost drops down to 0.2! the car feels prety gutless at this point im under the impresion it should feel like a boot up your arse when the 2nd turbo kicks in. im a little concerned as to what causes this as i hear horror storys such as running lean and detonation caused by pipes blown!
is there some kind of path i can follow to diagnose what the culprit to this problem is?
Cheers guys.
Hi,
I\'m not sure what .72 bar is equivalent to in psi but if your first turbo isn\'t geting to full boost the second one wont come on line.If your first turbo is getting full boost and you\'re not getting the second on on line then I would check the check valve under the pressure tank (next to your alternator) to make sure this hasnt come apart/broken. I had this a few weeks ago. One of the turbo control solenoids (cant remember the name) works off vacuum and pressure, and mine wasn\'t getting any positive pressure.
If your first turbo isn\'t reaching full boost, it\'s propably a split/leaking intercooler pipe. I would reccomend taking all your couplings off and \'bending\' them to make sure an otherwise invisible split, can be seen.
Good luck!
Do you have any pictures of offending item\'s :) i just been out to the car (its sunny :D - while at work :( ) had a look and could not realy figure out what was what, found a black box directly behind the alternator with two pipes coming off it (side by side) is this the one? :2Confused
yeah that\'s the one - just undo the two bolts (10mm) holding it down and see if you can see the checkvalve below it.
okay ill try have a look at lunch time cant realy get the tank of at work though no tools :( and i doubt id have the time, with the check valve is it jsut a visual inspection or is there some other quick and easy test that can happen to see if it works.
i did a little drive today and noticed that went at higher rpms i said before it did register 0.2 but that must have been a glance as watching it, it started a little higher and slowly crept down untill i read 0.0
mine 2nd turbo was slightly intermittent and the check valve under the plastic vac tank has broke in too, pip spotted that one, i also renewed allot of the vac pipes as they seemed to be made of cruberly plastic (technical term) lol once i renewed the check valve and did the pipes the 2nd one comes in like clockwork, well worth checking out all the vac pipes as they are so brittal its untrue
I seem to be having this problem too - at around 4500rpm the car just feels gutless :( Although i dont yet have a boost gauge so i cant tell what its boosting at.
Another thing to look at today...
not had chance to look at this im due to book a whole week of work this month, so im going to try do some diags and figure out what\'s wrong if its pipes ill replace the whole damn lot! :D but id love it to be something like one of the valves but from what i can see without takeing the vac tank of its still in one peice :2Confused
Gotta love these cars ^^ they just seem to develop faults for fun. eg i had a water leak, (had being the key word) drove to work looked under the car expecting to see it ****ing and not a drip.... unless of course its driping onto a hot component.
