Title: Mpg?
Post by: Jim_rx7 on March 25, 2007, 11:06:29 AM
What\'s the average MPG for the Rx7?

Seems to be quite bad from what I can tell... lol

I\'ve had a Mr2 Turbo a 350bhp Pulsar and a 400bhp TT Supra. The rx7 seems to use more fuel than the lot.

As you know It\'ll depend on your right foot.

I\'ve had mine four years and I\'d guess 16-18 on average [stockish].

But you\'re not supposed to ask the question............

From a 400hp single turbo FD - I\'ve had some 24 mpg on a motorway run.

When gving the car WOT and around town I get a 1/3 of that.

I bought my car knowing it liked a tipple, but this things an petroholic.

I manage to silent the little voice saying "Its drinking to much, you cant afford this, get rid of it" with the before mentioned heavy right foot....cant hear anything under WOT :)

im putting 30 quid a week in, and get about 75 miles out of it. Id do the conversion to mpg......but i cant :) but i know mines quite low.

i\'d say driving sensibly( if that\'s possibly) i get about 24mpg but with a heavy foot i get 12mpg, although i\'ve worked out i average 18mpg with the way i drive.

Whats all this economy talk! You don\'t buy an FD and expect it to have a good mpg lol!!!!

Just cross your fingers we can keep our 1.3 tax!!

heres how mine looks.  MPG is on the right, you can see how much i have spent and how many miles it has got me.  the last few times £35.00 has got me about 80-90 miles, lol.  that was when i took up my new habbit, of leaving it in high boost the whole time.

oh yer i am single turbo, and for some reason it appears might right foot is a little heavy........opppss :rollin :rollin

the high ones near the begining at 19mpg, were done on 90% motorway at about 75-80.
oh yer plus the 2x20mpg, i dont think are correct as i think i lost a reciept.  might not have done though

From what i\'ve been told i belive its possable to Fit a PFC and map it too better on Juice, But that said you\'ll find Rx7\'ns will always be set up richer than most Piston motors.

I guess it all depends on what you want, More power the More it will drink but if you want to keep it stockish there are things that can be done to help a Bit (like fitting a Throttle stop ;))

I just fill it up when it needs it!

Just done 270miles on last tank with a weeks travel to work and a couple long journeys.  Â£57 to fill up.  I have done better than that on stock setup but have to see what it\'s like when I have the remap as I am very rich at the moment although I think it\'s quite alright at the moment :)

i made it to bristol on half a tank - i was driving 70-80 and the occasional boost to overtake every two minutes lol

about 25 quid to go 180 miles roughly.  i dont think its bad however it is close to a stock engine.

but round town uff forget it!

Post by: RedRummy on March 26, 2007, 12:13:12 AM
i fill up every 250kms travelled...

seem to be getting about 17mpg... twin turbos, mapped to VPower, custom injector setup.

Pick up my FD on Sunday :). Was under the impression they drank fuel more than my last few cars (Supra, EVO IV, Skyline GTR) but after reading this I don\'t think there\'s that much different. So far EVO was the worst would average 15 MPG.
Title: Mpg?
Post by: Jim_rx7 on March 29, 2007, 06:29:54 PM
Yeah, I\'ve had a Supra, Evo IV, Pulsar, Mr2....

Think the FD is quite bad around town compared with the others tho.

Roughly 11MPG (based on 6.6Gallons - think that is around £30 worth - probo will be corrected )

25 quid to go 180

Well I recon thats about 6 gal at £4.50 a gal [that\'s the conversion isn\'t it?]

180 divided by 6 = 30mpg bloody amazing

400kms  :2eek :2eek

I\'m always to scared to go anywhere near 300kms..

how many litres do you squeeze in when you fill up?

must be a very nearly empty tank there...

PS - I was told once its never very good to let a rotary engine get too low on fuel.. any truth in this?
Title: Mpg?
Post by: Bobfish on April 12, 2007, 04:59:30 PM
not really ust rotarys, but more FDs. The baffling in the tanks are crap - on track anything under half a tank i get misfire because of fuel starvation and in a straight line anything under 8th of a tank gives me a misfire on WOT.
Title: Mpg?
Post by: yamaster on April 12, 2007, 07:09:08 PM
on a full tank(over flowing lol) i can only get 150 miles to a full tank:burnout   dont think i want to know what that works out as lol:Hammer

Well I got more than 220miles to the tank.

I put some more petrol in before it got to the empty tho. If I had let it go on, I would have got at least another 20miles.

Last year I started a lap of the Nurburgring and about a 1/4 of the way round I realised the petrol light was on.  There was no misfire or anything and she got back to the garage no probs and it was still a sub 10 min lap.

I wouldn\'t recommend waiting for the light to come on before filling though, think I might run a dose of injector cleaner through soon as it\'s got quite low recently.

Currently getting very close to 400 miles from a tank.

That\'s keeping under 3.5k rpm and no boost.  Running in is a bugger!

just over 200 miles from a tank, mainly motorway driving, stock twins with a little modification (induction + exhaust)

Like SupraZed I\'ve never run mine empty enough to realise there\'s a \'red\' phase to the fuel light BUT is it a good idea to run it that empty?  You must stand a far higher chance of picking up crap from the bottom of the tank and impare fuel filter performance?
Title: Mpg?
Post by: andysmee on May 09, 2007, 09:49:44 PM
Mine doesn\'t have yellow phase, just red and red and then a brown phase...to my pants

Just the yellow on mine (but that hardly comes on as it gets filled up before)

You will be surprised how clean the tanks are - done fuel pump about a month ago and really couldn\'t see anything bad in there at all - just shiny metal - still would never risk it anyway :yes

The funny thing is the FB isn\'t much better than the FD. Thank god im not doing proper miles in my FD. Although it means i really don\'t get good miles with the FD, more lead foot action than anything. Super always seems to be more expensive the amount of petrol im putting the FD at the moment, haven\'t done too many miles this year !

Oulton park was fun last year, did 50miles on about 1/2 a tank. And it was wet !

Currently on the low compression engine and impco 300A carb im getting about 70mile to 20l of LPG. Somebody local to me does it at 35.9p/lt but are always closed, usually pay 42.9 or 43.9 !!!! To think its only 63bhp at the hubs !
