Here are some of the latest pics of the shell preparation. i plan to have the car completed 1 month before rotorstock. All questions, comments and ideas gratefully recieved.
I plan to update this thread with more pics as and when work is completed.
Are you going to be keeping it street legal Ross? Its looking like it going to be pretty extreme (which is nice).
Lee
PS, nice Little Miss Mug :D
Yes it will be street legal.
This pic includes the Roll cage.
Also pic of cardboard template of fuel cell. I am moving to the rear seats for optimum wieght distribution, rather than have it hanging out over the rear wheels.
I have been modifying the doors today, loads of weight to be saved. I think they will be about a 1/4 of the weight of normal doors. i was going to get fibreglass ones, but when I started cutting these ones up, i realised how light I can get them.
I am going to have a simple sliding window, rather than electric.
What power and weight are you hoping to achieve?
I am going for a 1000kg and 500+ at the wheels.
Bridgeported motor with Greddy T88 33d.
looking good ross. i see that you like your chassis on the stiff side:)
i dont think thats going anywere
just a thought for your own safty though. in the first pic its clear to see that your using a little miss naugty cup as an axle stand. although your car is much lighter than stock i would say the cup isnt really up to the job. mr bump is a much better option.
i would also say that the car might be a bit less than 1000k with all the stuff you\'ve taken out.:cool
Hi Ross,
Looking good,it is excellent to see someone taking Rotorstock seriously.
Are you doing the bridge port yourself of are you getting the motor from Japan.
I have started a new thread on the anything performance related section to see what else is going on.
Kind regards
Carl
Cheers guys, everything on the car is going to be done at my place, form the engine building to the spraying and bodywork.
I think Rotorstock is a realistic target, although these things always take longer than you plan.
Attached is a photo of the engine building room that we have just finished painting and carpeting. Reconise that engine Carl?
Hi Ross,
Yes I think that engine looks very familiar.I see it is still in one piece.
Have you got any more pics of your car?
Kind regards
Carl
No I ran out of space on the camera, I have just wiped them so will do more 2mora, anything particular you want to see?
We are half way through stich welding the shell the the moment, and then it will be back to completing the cage.
Hi Ross,
I just wondered how bare the shell is at the moment.
Kind regards
Carl
Are you welding yourself Ross? do you have any picutres of the workshop? it would be great to see where it all happens in darkest exeter :)
Any ideas what colour she\'s gonna b, early days I know...dont get sniffing too much 2-pack now will u :D
Does the cage have to be inspected by any one if the cars road legal? or can u just do what you want?? Looks well nice, very purposeful. About shifting the fuel cell, is weight over the wheels not assisting traction significantly do you think? Are you keeping stock (well u know what I mean!) suspension?
Soo many questions.
Did that bumper get picked up btw??? DHL were meant to collect yesterday??
Ross
Are you going to solid mount the engine/drivetrain, don\'t forget the mod for the subframe. Are you going to do a full or half bridge?
Rich, I think he has some drag specific dampers, it would be cool to see one lift the front wheels, but to do this it needs an engine
:rollin
Ross i think you should build the engine now and put it in another car to run in, otherwise I think you will run out of time;)
Carl here is pick of the shell, to remove all od the sound deadning has taken about 60hrs!!!! Absolute nightmare job.
Rich, My bodyshop guy does the welding, I just tell him whre to put the tubes. More photos of shop to follow.
Not sure what colour, could be anything from matt black to cherry pink, any ideas guys???
Cage does n\'t have tobe inspected to be road legal. Weight transfere should be a problem with the rest of the bits that I have.
Jason, Solid engine and diff mounts, from Kazama. Because I am going to have a side exit, I can weld in loads of sub-frame braces.
Full Bridge.
Could build the engine and run it in another car, or I could close for 2 weeks and build a MONSTER!!!!!!!
Full Bridge with a side exit:wave
see you in jail:D
Just what I was thinking Jase!
I have dreams of having a side exit big port 20B. But I wake up and remember how often I get pulled by the rozzers as it is - and how many points I have already :(
Ross, do u work with a cup of tea permanently on the go mate?

Thats really nice work Ross and very good to see people in the uk going all out!
As for colour does your company have a specific colour for business logos etc? if so i would stick to that - other than that maybe consider some of the BMW one off colours - the bluish ones look really nice but are pretty pricey! - there were or are a few cars in oz that had started to do this before i left and they do look good.
Finally \'go tha whole hog\' and build a monster specifically for this car- you know you want to!
Matt black would look evil. I have seen a couple of race cars in it.
Something is telling me painting it to look like a Dragon would have some novelty value too :D Perhaps a nice bright green with some scales :o
Lee
I\'ve always thought that yellow shows off the RX-7\'s lines the best.
You could maybe get some kinda Yellow-Orange flip, that would look well trick i reckon. It would turn plently of heads in combo with the bodywork too. :cool
I\'m with Lee; got to be a full-on \'scaley-Lizard-flip\' I reckon :rollin
Bridge with Side Exit, Matte Black.
Then you wouldn\'t have to worry about jail:D
dribble dribble (http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/splarka/as-drool.gif) sounds rediculousy feisty good on ya!
Si
PS that tomato soup dont look so dribble worthy (http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/puke.gif) lol
Looking good Ross, its gonna be a beast :D
I\'ll have a goosey when I\'m down next :)
Dave
Ross I reckon do it in a TVR Blue/green pearl colour

LOL LOL!!
I will not be painting it in novelty lizard scale green. I have thought about Black with white and red decals, full race car style.
I am just making up another demo car at the moment, I am planning on painting that a gun metal matt grey, or possibly a light pastel blue again in matt.
Looks absolutely fantastic Ross. Are you doin all the engine work yourself?
..Jay...
Matt black or Ferrari Red, yum :D
Or both :D
As requested Rich, pics of the workshop. Still setting everything up.
Yes Jay all the engine work will be done by myself, excet for some maching, that will be necessary for this engine. Actually all the work will be done at Dragon Performance, a platfom to show customers what we can do.
More workshop pics.
Spray Booth
Store.
.
Bodykits and loads of other bits.
Whoo hoo, I\'ve been there :)
It\'s my Graceland
:wave :rollin
BTW I need a laptop asap, mines just died. Anyone got one for-sale?????
my company sells them, if you find one you like, let me know and I\'ll get it cheaper for you mates rates
Dave
Nice pictures Ross :)
You have the kind of workshop that many would love to have. It looks as though you have plenty to keep you busy.
I like the dark gunmetal RX7 :) nice colour that....it\'s the Veilside car you have for sale, right?
Regards
Max
Yes it is the show car. It has not been that well loked after recently, so it is getting a full respay in the Veilside colour and all the engine bits repolished etc. Also complete service, took it for a quick drive a week ago, intensely quick and very tight, it has lots of braces and stuff underneath and the full cage helps, cant wait to get it back together.
I saw the premises on friday, and I must say I was very impressed. Good selection of spares too!
Ross, you saved my life by having that radiator, and she\'s all gone back together ok. I may be wrong, but taking all the bits and pieces out to get to the radiator, and replacing them again seems to have cured the eratic boost problems on the second turbo!
Just one question Ross, are you going to have any diagnostic equipent, or are your facilities intended just for upgrades and modifications?
Cheers, Nik
Hi guys been really really busy, but was able to do some work on my car last nite and this morning. Cage is going very well, project is starting to get very interesting now!!
This is more like it!!!!
Tubes run through the bulk head to the front suspension turrets.
Who needs windscreen wipers!!!!
Rear chassis legs weighed lots, which is good:)
Looking great Ross - so, you going to have the first tubbed FD/Rotary in the UK?
What type of diff. / gearbox are you going to run?
I know what you mean with the body deadener in the car - it is a mule of a job.
Serious work will be starting on my car next month hopefully, I\'ll keep you posted (nothing has happened on it for quite a while).
It wont be tubbed, the removal of the rear floor and chassis legs is more to do with saving weight and weight distribution. I will be putting in an aluminium floor in the back.
I plan to use it for drag and circuit, changing a few bits around for each application. I have some drag coil-overs and some great circuit coil-overs aswell.
I have a few diffs to play with and willl try a couple of different ones to see which works best, I have a really vicious ATP one that I will prberly go for though. Gearbox will be standard, unless this proves to be to weak.
I have just done some test plates for the bridgeport, so may have the engine built in a few weeks.
Attached is a pick of the turbo kit I will be using. Greddy T88 34D. Going for a bespoke V mount intercooler rad set-up, mounted on a aluminium frame, that will also hold huge bespoke oil coolers.
I also plan to mount the water injection tank, etc, in the passenger foot well, along with the engine management and fuse boxes and relays etc. Again for optimum weight distribution.
Looks like ALOT of work
Looks like its gonna be a beast Ross, bet that feels so tight with the cage in place.
Good work mate, keep it up :cool

Just been looking at Hyper Rev for the umpteenth time, I think I see where your inspiration came from :)
Nice work. Will be good to see the odd Skyline have a fright at the strip this year :rollin
What Rich? Can you scan in any stuff. I would love to see anything else like this. I havent been able to find anything, except for full on space framed, which cant really offer much help cus they ditch the whole shell.
If anyone else has any ideas or suggestions, let me know. Should have pics of full cage soon. Been setting up a Supra with a T88 for a customer today, rather quick, cant wait to get my T88!!
You got HR number 72 yeah? Check out the PanSpeed car. Half tubed front end like yours and uses a custom v-mount setup. Back end is hacked up too from looks of it.
Reminds me, must order the new HR!
Think once mine is running I\'m gonna strip it. The economy will warrant very irregular use so may as well go the next step. Nothing as hard core as yours, just get rid of all the crap thats not necessary, stiffen her up a bit and get her set up properly for some fun :)
No I only have about 3 HRs, but have the whole collection coming from Japan. Is there any way you could scan the pages or send me a photo copy, as you do owe me a favour Mr Alexander :D
I\'ll do your favor in about 6 months - inline with your favor doing, ok? :bandit :rollin
Pics arent big, so I\'ll see what I can do later if the scanner wants to work...
Mad project! Mind If I post some pics on our club page?
Dragon
Best of luck with your project .....That is one hell of a nice job your doing! I can only speak for myself but I know I wish I could try it one day. Looking at your shop/ car photo\'s and hours you have put into your project must be very gratifying.
Look foward to seeing more updates as it comes closer to completion.
Oliver
Ross,
Where in exeter are you... i wouldn\'t mind a look one day.
Also are you still looking for a laptop. I have one that you could have.
Regards
Dangle
Hi Dangle, we are based near the town center, king edward street, plesae call for directions.
These are the lastest pics.
The fuel tank is being built, and I have been ordering various other bits. More updates soon.
.
Ross,
Looking sweet! when are you open coz i will try and pop in to have a chat!
Dan
Have to be carful with placement of rear tubes, so they do not interfere with fueltank. still have a further 16 foot to put in and then the cage will finely be finished. Although I still have sub-frame braces to weld up.
Quick shot of our other demo car, the kit has been completely blended and is now in a black base coat, before a flip paint is applied. Car will also have R-magic rear wing, custom nose, bonnet and wing mirrors etc.. more pics when finished
Ross, is that black car the same car as this??....i took this pic at jap performance sunday last october.
Dan!!
No that car has been sold, although looks different, because the buyerr wanted me to fit and paint a new C-West kit and 99 spec lights all round.
The car i am using us the first RX7 I ever bought!
Ah right....it was the wheels that threw me, i thought i\'ve seen them somewhere before on a car with big dragon stickers on it.... 2+2 =5 :D
Dan!!
Ross,
Did you go down to exmouth on sunday?
Dangle
Hi Ross,
So is the cage done now?
Are you going to seam/stitch weld it all?
Hey Ross,
is the white rx the one i wanted??
If so very nice job on it mate:)
Just noticed from the pics you have no diagonal brace(s) across the roof. Do you think the centre bar will do the job??
Glen, shel will be stich welded in high stress areas.
Danglebits, yes went to Exmouth, I organise a monthly jap meet, had about 40 cars turn up this month!
Gurj, yes that is the one you wanted.
Rich, more to come, just need more time.
Been doing a few late evenings, these is the latest pics etc.
going to blend the whole front together, to make a 1 piece removable front end.
lambo do conversion has arrived to. I use a kit from a very reputable Jap company, and they dont even fit!!! Not even close! Took about 8 hrs to set up correctly. however this will be sorted for the kits we sell.
Now the kit has arrived we can start chopping up the rest of the car! Removing anything unneccessary. We have also widened the kit bt over an inch either side, used differnr side skirts and made them wider and also cut of the front, to provide cooloing for the front brakes.
We have cut the light pods out of the nose and inserted receessed C-West 99 spec pods, also cut the nose in half and made it 2 inches wider and also cut the bottom splitter of and made our own. pics of the nose very soon.
welded shell.
How to.
Dam, this thing will be an absolute monster!!
When do you expect the whole project to be finished Ross?
Dan!!
Hi Ross,
Looking good!!
We attacked mine a little different with the seam welding, a 1 inch weld every 2 inches - see attached.
.ps What are you doing with the suspension?
And another...
Glen - is your car going to be pink? and don\'t you think you\'ve taken the weight saving a little too far - There\'s no wheels, suspension, windows, or anything!!! Sure it must be light, but come on!!
Ross - you still looking to have it done for rotorstock?? looks like you\'ve some late nights ahead of you...

What do you mean!!! I can see all the gear in the pics. - they are the new air wheels and tyres, air suspension, air engine etc. etc. etc. geeess - some people ;)
Ahhh, now I see them... btw, is that an original 1973 Air Strato Caster in the background??
Correct indeedy!! lol!
like this one on ebay

Getting on with it, but starting to wonder if rotorstock will be to soon.
Everything is taking a little longer than planned, and I dont want to compromise on anything at the moment.
getting some bits in primer soon.
Must be all hands at the pumps Ross, you\'ll have your staff on 24 hour rota\'s soon!
Hope you get it done in time Ross, good luck :)

10 seconds more like!

Come on Ross, crack that whip!
Max

lol
Should be good to see then end product in action......
Si
Ross,
Whats the deal with the split in the speed connection front bar?
Isnt it wide enough for the wide wody kit??
It looks good with the extra flares at the bottom though.
I remember a K magic Kit that looked fairly similar.
My favourite, But I could never find the manufacturer.
Russ.
We have widened the wide arch kit so had to do the nose aswell, standard car is about 170cm at the front ours is 182 ish.
All ideas and pics will be gratefully recieved.
Got the engine bay in primer today.
I found a big Kmagic pic.
K magic.
The Splitter extensions look cool (see idea below.)

with canrds and extra vents in the centre.

Ross, Are you going to run canards at the front.
If so you may just want to incorporate them into the splitter,
Like the amemiya G9 front.
You have added the 99spec front lights right.
they do make a 2002 version of that bar.
Dont know if you have seen the 2002 front from them.
http://www3.ocn.ne.jp/~spd-c/parts/fd3s/top02.htm (http://www3.ocn.ne.jp/~spd-c/parts/fd3s/top02.htm)
Im working on a photo chop for ya
Russ.
Here are some quick chops.
Wide front with centre section
Without Center section
looks like she is moving along really well, keep up the goodwork. Its a shame you are so far away, We could come down and put some extra hands on spanners for you!
Thanks for the input guys.
I liked the speed connection front, but wanted 99 spec lights, when I first put them in they didn\'t look that great so I looked at some other noses and realised they look better when recessed and pointing down nearer the center.
I think I may change the center of the nose, maybe make the vent different, I like off centre vents.
I love doing custom stuff, but it is so time consuming, my last effort took ages and I still havent quite finished that yet. Heres a pic.
This thread makes me cry. :(
Looking good ross (http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/images/smile/thumbs.gif)
cant wait to drop my rex off 4 repair ross just so i can c ure beast... may my wife wax it with her 34ffs???:D

Starting to take shape now.
Looking good :cool
looking good ross, but my god you have got to get a move on! You only have 2.5 weeks if you want to run it a R/S.
Keep up the good work. I found that Redbull helps!:rollin
gullwing... hmmm.
