Title: 1st gen turbo
Post by: Cycaduk on March 23, 2007, 10:04:57 PM
Hi all,
along with my 1st gen, Ive bought a turbo, god knows whether it will fit but the hope is I can cobble together something that will work.
My thinking is this: pre 1985 rotary cars have virtually no emission regulations so offer the best bet for very high performance. With a waste gate fitted I should be able to get approximately good boost even if the turbo size is not ideal. A decent engine management system will control the boost pressure and fuel input and also ignition advance/retard.
With the 12a engine, will I be better with 2 or 4 injectors if I use the standard inlet manifold? A non standard manifold is not an option unless I get zero cost.

For the tubo oil supply, I believe i can take this from the lines straight after the oil filter, but would I be better off taking it before. What did the Elford turbo do?
My main problem is how the brake servo works on a turboed car. where does the airline from the servo go?
If anyone can tell me where I need to plumb it in i would be grateful

regards
Dennis

I\'d give Tim at RX motors a call.  He did my 12A turbo conversion.

Why not buy an Elford turbo setup? It costs a lot less than an 12a turbo import engine and produces more power in stock form. I have a complete setup here you can bolt onto your 12a for £200.

I\'ll take that off your hands if it\'s everything i need to turbo a 12a?:Thumbsup!

I started with an elford kit, cost me £450, then the turbo went so it cost another £450!!

I liked the way it went, you cant beat them for bhp/£, but you are limited in terms of going any further in terms of power & you cant fit an intercooler cos of the way the carb works.  If get a good un you\'ll make 150/165bhp, forget 200+ tho.  If you want big power you got to get a 12ATurbo EFI like mine or go 13B.

But for £200!!??  I\'d bite his hand off!!  Thats a steal.

You will never want to drive a standard one agin tho ;)

It\'s correct unless something has gone horribly wrong. Have you subsituted the at for @ and removed the spaces?

It\'s totally complete. It\'s off a car i broke. It does look like a couple of the oil hoses need replacing (one is split) and the hose to the air cleaner is a perished throwaway. These are small things that are easily fixed though! It\'s been sitting for a while but i assume it\'s still okay. Needs a good clean up. Carb and front exhaust pipe are included.

It sounds like i underestimated the value of this setup. :Grrr
