Title: Heaters blowing luke warm air
Post by: nikp on March 23, 2007, 10:20:40 AM
Does anyone have any idea why my heater is only blowing luke warm air? Water temps are good - 82 on Apexi, and 82 on radiator. Not losing any coolant at all.

A long shot here, but have you removed your a/c? Sometimes if the exhange unit under the dash is missing, and the plastic casing isn\'t replaced this can lead to poor heating (so I\'m lead to believe)...

No you don\'t have to, I\'m saying that if you have removed the unit under the dash and not put the plastic back it can affect the blower. If you haven\'t touched this then it\'s unlikely that it\'s the problem.

ah, no - I aint touched it. It\'s funny: sometimes the temp is great, nice and hot. Other times it\'s only warm.

My heater setup is a funny bugger. However hot the car is, the centre air vents come out cold/warm and the rest come out hot.

I thought face vents weren\'t supposed to blow hot hot, to stop you from falling asleep or something?

I know it\'s the case is some cars, but will have to check if the FD is the same.

Maybe it\'s just this that\'s the case. I can\'t remember how hot the side vents are getting. Will have to check I guess.

I find it surprising it will be an air ock, as the coolant hasn\'t dropped since I did the rebuild about a year ago.

Mine does something similar, sometimes it blows really hot air, then other times it\'s luke warm.  I doubt that it\'s an airlock, more like a faulty solenoid valve that regulates coolant flow perhaps?

Then again, I only ever drive it in the Summer, so it doesn\'t really matter, but I would like to know what it is and fix it.

well i have exactly the same on mine and is not due to an airlock. saying that it was fine before the rebuild about 3000 miles ago and since its been as described, warm at the best of times and then after a period it will blow hot. Only thing i can think of is the control unit itself as i have had that out in the past. Seems a fairly common annoyance.
