Title: Stereo?
Post by: padams2002 on January 08, 2004, 12:14:21 PM
Hi,

Has anyone managed to fit a single din stereo in the double din slot?

I want to put my pioneer stereo in the top position but I  have nothing to hold it up. Is there a special cage you can get from somewhere. Also I will need a plastic blanking plate as well.

Do you know what the part number was?

I went to Halfords and they showed me something similar to what you say, and it was for an Mr2. When he looked in my car he said it wouldnt fit because there is nothing to screw into on the sides.

You can pick up single DIN oddments trays for anywhere between £5 and £10, depending where you go. However, getting these to fit (and stay in position) is notoriously difficult, more so on double-DIN cars. I recently took out my double-DIN and installed an oddments tray to mount my Greddy Profec boost controller. I found an awesome kit for sale at a local car audio emporium (Tonbridge Road Radio). This cost a little more (£25) but has a huge array of fitting paraphernalia which allowed me to get a good, rattle-free and permanent fit. At present, the boost controller is in the upper of the two slots (for ease of access), with nothing below it, and does not shift around. Recommended.

On a slightly different note, my car came from japan with just such a tray that I use to keep CD\'s in. The only problem is under high accelaration when the CD slide backwards and either jam against my hand on the gear stick - painful at first - or just end up in a mess on the floor.

Does anyone know if you can get a double din CD with a CD changer in the spare space. The only doulbe din stuff I can find have a tape player and a CD... Who wants one of those!
:(

The Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB53 has an optional single DIN changer if I remember rightly plus you get DAB tuning in addition to FM plus the head unit will also play MP3\'s.

Hope this helps.
