The car im interested in was bought from jap village in 2002 for £11000
The current owner (who bought it from jap village) has a bill of receipt for £11k and said whern he bought it it had just had a rebuild
He said all jap village cars have rebuilds
As jap village have gone bust, he cannot prove its had a rebuild.
What would you do in this situation?
Thanks guys
Ger
When japvillage was still going I paid them a visit a couple of times and they always had some mad cars but where never in the best of nick. I wouldnt have thought so myself but I may well be wrong. The guy down there seemed to be more interested in building himself cars and just using the others he sold to pay for that. The vanishing point supra was his.
if you take the car to any of the specialists they will do a compression test and be able to give you a good idea on the condition of the engine.
matt
thanks. can you name one local to Redhill Surrey
Thanks again
Ger
As far as I\'m aware RxHeaven did a lot of the work for JapVillage. They are based in Southwater near Horsham, depending how long ago this was they may or may not have been involved.
if it had a rebuild in 2002 then its almost certainly due a rebuild regardless of mileage since. I would certainly budget for it.
No!
They didnt

Best bet would be to get the current owner to agree on some testing / report, you have not a million miles away Rotechnics in Reading or REworx in Portsmouth that will carry this out and give a fair unbiased report. Mind you as Ant has already said most likely more work would be required and the fact 11k was spent 5 years ago dont mean much now. Hth
From what I\'ve heard it was rx-heaven.
Get it hpi\'d as well, I know of an rx7 that jap village bought seriously damaged and had it for sale not long after with new panels etc
It was around that time and price too.

Laugh and walk away. Otherwise knock off some money for a rebuild.
Japvillage.... I remember them importing a 1990 revision 1 yellow mr-2 turbo, a few weeks later it was for sale as a nice 1996 P plate. They had done all the bodywork bits to update it so it looked like one, apart from colour coding the sidesills/front splitter. Oh but the engine and seat belt tags still give away the year.
Yeah, I heard it was his dealings with the MR2\'s that got him in trouble, aparently cutting out the tags on the seat belts to disguise the year of the car!:spank
Thats the only problem with some of the jap cars like the RX7 & MR-2 as the design was so good in the first place they never changed much so not really hard to make it look newer than it is.....
Unfortunately for most poor people that dont know what there looking for apart from the basics they could get stung.
i was warned off jap village many years ago about the tag removing on the belts. was trying very hard to sell me a red one with worst re spray ever for 12k. was saying the engine was built by someone he knew that was a helicopter mechanic or something. i didn`t trust so i walked

In 2002 Geff from Reworx was building some engines for them, long shot he may remember
I bought my FD from Jap Village.
Has proved to have been an excellent buy.
It was a part exchange which they took in for a more powerful FD they had ........ that one turned out to have problems ...... so basically it came in and I bought it straight out.
I alway got on really well with Tim and they were very accommodating.
I don\'t know anything about dodgy stuff.
I know he used to speak to Pip and I thought he used to send engines up there.

My car was ex Jap Village and was rebuilt by RX HEaven so that may tie up.
Whilst I was the second UK owner it had a receipt for a RX Heaven rebuild but mine went bang within 3 months of my purchasing it. It\'d done less than 3,000 miles since the rebuild.
Dragon did the second rebuild for me and found one or two problems with the previous build which I won\'t go into here but if you do a search on RX Heaven I\'m sure there will be a thread with a few issues raised.
I would get a compression test done but wouldn\'t rely the rebuild paperwork as being a cast iron guarantee that you won\'t have a problem further down the line.
Cheers
