Title: Fpr In/out
Post by: Eddie on March 21, 2007, 11:14:59 PM
Hi all

Does anyone know which would be the in (from fuel tank) and out  (to fuel rail) on this FPR.
On the gauge it says motor sport but no other markings on it at all.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

To be 100% sure i\'d need to see it in the flesh but nearly certainly the fuel rail return goes to the fitting oposite the gauge and tank return on the bottom (right on your pic).
PLEASE NOTE WHAT I HAVE SAID THE FPR ACTUALLY GOES AFTER THE FUEL RAILS IN THE RETURN LINE TO THE TANK NOT BEFORE AS MANY PEOPLE THINK!

Thanks Kev

I think I get what you are saying but heres another diagram and a couple of questions and info.
If you dont mind answering them for me that is.

1) removed OEM pressure reg and replaced with barb fitting so fuel line goes straight to rail.

Q) Can I fit a fuel filter in the bay to make life easier when it needs changing.
I would of course remove the one near the tank?
Q) why have mazda fitted the FPR before the rails? (or am I looking at the oem setup backwards and the OEM FPR is already set after the rails and the pulsation damper has the feed from the tank?)

Hopfully not being too stupid here thanks for you help.

Moving the filter isn\'t a problem so long as you\'ve room and you fully remove the old one just make sure its secure and safe thats all. i\'m not 100% up on the FD setup but i suspect as you say you are looking at the set up backwards. Certainly with the aftermarket fpr set ups and the 20b one rail presure is regulated by controlling the return to the tank.

Thanks again Kev

So basicaly I just replace the oem fpr and put this one in its place, which is what I was going to do originaly but got confused (I am easily confused)

It was the return line info and my wrong understanding of the feeding/return system I thought the FPR would have been being feed form the tank going through the rials and then returning to the tank.

Now thats cleared up I am good to go I think.

Its easy enough when you get your head around the fact the FPR is plumbed in after the fuel rails. Don\'t worry many make that mistake.

Hooked it all up and no leaks :)

Just one more question Kev.

I have checked and the pressure should be 38 ish but I seem to not get this reading on the gauge even when I screw in the thread at the top of FPR.

Does the car have to be running to get a proper reading, I have only been priming the system with the key at 2 on the ignition (not starting the car)
Thinking about it I may need to prime the system properly I remember a how to, think I will try that first as I depresurised to remove the rail in the first place.

Hmmm

Yes base pressure is set with the engine at idle assuming its a rising rate fpr.
