Title: Cast iron single turbo manifolds for FD\'s?
Post by: Chris Wilson on March 21, 2007, 01:55:28 PM
Who makes a decent cast iron TO4 flange single turbo manifold for the FD? thanks.

HKS did one, RHD Japan had one a few months back..

The same HKS one that you were going to use all that time ago Chris. They are the only ones you will get fairly easily I would imagine.

as above, The HKS one is good.

I am not sure about the HKS manifolds?

I have had three too date and all have developed Cracks, a Good mate of mine had one that split into two.

I\'ve now got a Mild steel Tubular Manifold thats got a T04R hanging off it (or had) and that got some abuse from a not very well set up Turbo 2 for the best part of two years and theres no cracks of any kind (it is quite heavy gauge too which helps)

Grizzly: Are you saying you have had 3 cast iron single turbo manifolds crack?

Thanks guys.

I have a cast iron manifold on mine: it\'s a modified turbo II manifold I believe.

Not seen any problems with HKS cast jobs to date i dont recall. The tubular ones crack a lot granted, the T51 manifolds need welding and bracing to help them last a bit better, and they still crack now and then :-/

Yep, I admit though i had a Undivided HKS manifold that i used for a while that i had no problems with, But the Divided FD manifolds did not fair well.

They start by cracking between the Divided Runners where the Little square cut out is between the two Runners (Turbo side of the Manifold), then over time the crack gets larger (until you get as i say the manifold falls in two peices when you take it off)

BTW I know there are lots of diffrent types of HKS Manifold the one i\'ve seen crack is the Divided Short runner (cast)

I had a look round but did\'nt real look to hard so this is a on the tame side, it gives you an idea of what it looks like before it gets bad and starts leaking. Not to sound funny but Cast manifolds are renound for cracking (Stock Fd/T2 are a Good example)

Its a Flash mark at the Base of the Runner but if you look between the Runners you\'ll see the Crack in its early stages.

Grizzly, I just love info like this. I use HKS cast single turbo manifolds on Skyline engines, they too start to crack at the divider (two sets of 3 runners into a divided TO3 or TO4 flange). So HKS make an UNdivided manifold for the FD as WELL as a divided one, do they? I learn something every day, cheers.

Yep, If i was going to get a HKS Cast manifold it would be Undivided just for that reason.

But as i say i went for a Heavy gauge Mild steel Tubular Manifold becouse it was  more crack resistant then both the Cast and Stainless it tends to flex rather than Crack if you know what i mean.
