Afternoon all
I want to use 2 stroke petrol engine oil in conjunction with my stock omp as I am running some 400hp. Do I use mineral or synthetic oil and is 100ml per 30 litres of fuel enough?
Cheers
I use castrols 2 stroke bike oil, its about 10 quid a litre and for every 10litres of fuel 100ml of oil.. :)
cheers m8. I\'ve already bought some 2 stroke petrol engine oil by auto care. was about 7 quid for 1L and it is mineral.
Will I be ok using the above or should I not?
Anyone?
id hold out for now until someone can confirm it bud lol.. phone a vendor and ask if your unsure :)
have yous removed the stock oil thing? or do you use pre mix aswell?
nah i use premix too. its alot safer it things go wrong :)
i was told that using pre mix and the omp is bad as too much oil in the mix can encorage det! there are a few choices though, there is an adaptor to feed the omp with pre mix from a seperate tank, use the omp from the sump or rip it off, bin it and blank it off (like i have)

i was just thinking this is that the stuff that smells sweeeeet!!
Ok got my measurements wrong, pip suggests 100ml for a full tank .. and yea it smells sweet lol..
just out to buy some!!!! my crosser used to smell nice dont think it will be as strong smelling but yeh ace!!
Too much will fowl the plugs and make it a biatch to start lol..
ill be running 100:1 ie 500ml for 50l of fuel but as i say im scrapping the omp, this also means i can use one of the safe synthetic oils in my sump with no discussion on what happens when it burns. and too much oil in combustion chamber would lower octane rating of fuel? i think thus when been pushed could encourage det, admittedly i used about 100ml of pre mix with the omp just to make sure(didnt work).

Pip said that the oil reduces the octane level, gunna pop my car down for a checkup soon just to make sure alls ok :)
You won\'t get detonation probs from using premix.
The octane does not get reduced by adding the amounts of oil to the fuel that we are talking about whether the engine still has the OMP or not.
Think for a moment about it,if your fuel has a ratio of 100 parts fuel,to 1 part of oil,and your fuel has an Octane rating of say 99 points, then the fuel would only be reduced by less than 1 point, and in reality, fuel can vary up to 3 points, depending on time of year, and the age of the fuel, just sitting in your tank for a week you can lose a point.
Best ratio is around 100 to 1 for really high power turbo engines that are driven really hard. For all other purposes think of around 125 to 1.
Use a good quality mineral oil, does not have to be for two stroke, even Castrol GTX 10/40 mineral engine oil is very good.I have used that alot in the past.
Hope this helps.:burnout

Sounds good Carl. Do you say 100 to 1 in addition with using the omp. Or when the omp is removed?

With the OMP you can run around 125 to 1 all the time, you certainly don\'t need more than that, think of it is a belt and braces job really.
It is not really necessary to run premix with an OMP too on mildly modded engines engines.

Carl can i use the Valvoline Turbo V 10w30 mineral oil as a pre mix then? i guess it makes sense as this is what gets put back in anyway or would be 2 stroke oil be better at lubricating?
thanks
Mark
I\'d use two-stroke oil as it\'s designed to mix (better) with petrol than regular engine oil...
