Title: Amp Power cable - cut!
Post by: JohnnyP on March 20, 2007, 07:40:05 PM
My new fd has a kenwood amp in the boot driving 2 pioneer speakers. I couldn\'t work out why the speakers weren\'t working so I traced the power cable to the engine bay only to find it\'s been cut and knotted together!! Of course it now won\'t reach the battery! Is it possible to connect the 2 pieces together?

Yes, the short piece has a black plastic box which I assume is the fuse, but it looks like a sealed unit - (although I haven\'t taken it apart), not sure I can reattach the cable. I will look tomorrow. Why would anyone cut it?

it may have drained the battery due to incorrect setup or perhaps because (i think anyway) the fd wiring is fragile so adding stuff to the mix may have hindered something or mapping etc.

(when you get frustrated when your fd doesnt work you can cut slash and smash things..alot)

my advice would be get a capacitor.

So a capacitor would prevent excessive drain from the battery, storing energy for when it\'s needed - right? I know next to nothing about i.c.e. but my car has a single red power cable running from the batteries + terminal to the amp in the boot  - would a capacitor be sit between the battery and the amp? So take the red power cable from the amp, connect it to the capacitor and then connect the capacitor to the amp. Or should I get a professional installer?!!!!

You dont need a professional for minor installs such as this so dont worry, when you get a capacitor it will have exact instructions so thats not a worry either, in my opinion it is best to have one especially on a rex as it keeps the power where it should be. no reason not to have a good install though. if you get stuck let me know and ill try to help otherwise just pop down you\'re only down the road :)
