Title: My New RX7! Pics included
Post by: ash on March 20, 2007, 02:52:49 PM
Hi All :wave

I have not posted on here for a while now, but have been reading and keeping up with the banter! So i would just like to reintroduce myself kind of thing. Anyways, last Jan 2006 i sold my White Type R2 RX7 to a very nice chap on here called Probedb. I promised myself after that i would buy another one at some point - and just over 1 1/2 weeks ago i did just that.

Its a 1993 UK Silver RX7

Standard except Powerflow exhaust system (not too sure on it though)
Sunroof
Leather seats
Cruise Control

And a new Halford\'s Calcium battery!

I bought it with no MOT, and last Saturday decided to put it through. Unfortunatley it failed on a broken antiroll bar bracket on the drivers side , slight play in the rear wheel bearing, rear brakes at only 17% effeciency (should be 60% or more) - probably due to it sitting about for over 1.5 years on a drive way. Oh, and the horn didnt work :spank . So its booked back in for retest tomorrow with the work to be carried out. So hopefully if all is well i will be up and runnning by the weekend! Cant wait!!:D

Just the one photo for now but hope you all enjoy.

Thanks

Title: Update

Update 1

I went to start the fd this morning to drop of at the MOT station for its work, and the coolant buzzer came on. Knowing that starting and stopping the engine could cause it to flood and that i needed to get it to the garage, i decided to leave it running for 3-4mins!

I stopped the engine and topped up with only warm water (so cold today plus i had no antifreeze at hand!). Turned the keys and the engine fired to life, so its sitting in the garage - now just got to wait for the bill.

A quick question - could i have damaged the engine by running it with the coolant buzzed on? It started from cold at 0 degrees outside temp and when restarting it it was fine.

i have a leak and occasionally every few weeks the the buzzer comes on and i  need to top it up.  i dont like the sound of it, it is some kind of warning so i turn the engine off as soon as i hear it.  top it up and restart it.

never flooded it doing that, infact i have never flooded the rex ever.  i cant see how people do.................................thats prob a stupid thing to say as it will now do it when i go to start it to go home.

Lol, i managed to flood my old FD when i moved it out the drive and then back in again - i think its was running on auto choke  and that may have caused it to flood? Decided to do the remove EGi relay thing and all was good after that.

Welcome back Ash! Your old car has no engine in it at the moment ;) Plenty of pics here... http://www.flickr.com/photos/paulsolecki/sets/72057594048747614/

Nice looking car you\'ve bought there! I managed to flood mine too, just moving into the garage and didn\'t realise I should have kept it going longer.

Hi Paul, good to hear from you. Looks like you have done quite a lot of work on the car, wish i could have got it as clean as you have - it looks spotless!

Just looking at it makes me want coilovers even more, i seem to remember you have HKS coilovers on it? Have you managed to find a tool to raise the ride height?

As soon as my car is back on the road, its modifying time! :3gears-rh

Hi Ash. I think I spent literally 7/8 hours with Meguiars paint cleaner on it which worked a treat...got to do the same to the engine bay while it\'s out now.

I never got round to finding a C-spanner, just got the garage to raise the front 1/2", they ended up having to remove them anyways as they\'d probably been at that level since the car was in Japan so was a bit rusted up.

Got to be modified ;) By the end of April the car will have; SMB Exhausts downpipe and exhaust, Dragon silenced mid-pipe, Apexi PFC, Efini Y-pipe, completely new coolant and vacuum lines and various other stuff, plus an engine block with 35k miles on it. Hopefully it\'ll start. Also coming (has to wait till Oct when I can afford wheels) are Feed Type IIR bumper, Feed side skirts, RE-A diffuser and other bits.

Good luck with the car :)

Hi Paul, well the 7/8 hours certainly paid off! Engine bay\'s gonna be a bit of a knightmare i reckon.

Sounds like by the end of April its gonna have some nice parts on - what sort of power are you expecting from that lot?

Hmm, not sure, would hope 270ish @ the wheels maybe? I only managed 215 @ the wheels last year at the dyno.

If you\'re still down south-ish, get along to Japfest at Castle Combe in May! Everything except the body mods should be fitted and mapped by then :)

Going to start replacing vac hoses in a mo.

Will certainly do that, hopefully my FD will be running well by then.

Car is back from the garage and im £200 lighter in the pocket. Turns out that the horn(s) had actually rusted away so a new one had to be ordered. :rollin

Anti roll bar braket replaced, rear wheel bearing tightened up and rear brake discs and pads cleaned off - there was a lot of rust on them.

Next up is getting it taxed - any idea how much this is as being a UK its classed as a 2616cc?:3Confused
