Title: Can anyone recommend........
Post by: dudeone on March 17, 2007, 07:42:55 PM
Hi All,

So ive just become aware of the RX7’s as im now looking around for a car with more performance than my present motor, ive been doing the normal surfing which brought me to this great website full of helpful knowledge on what to look out for, models and years etc.

Anyhow Im looking at buying from a dealer as initially until I sell my car I am looking at trading her in, so ive spotted a few RX7’s in Dealers from the Autotraders site and ive been in contact with one of them.

What I would like to know is has anyone got any experience with a company called Merry Hill Motors? http://www.merryhillmotors.co.uk (http://www.merryhillmotors.co.uk/) the reason I ask is that they have two Black RX7’s I like the look and sound of, ive been in touch with them in regards to this but ive come across a weird thing let me explain.

Im looking to get some cash back from my car which is a 2003 MR2, the cars ive seen are advertised at 5495 & 5995 respectively but when ive asked the question do you take in P/X’s im told yes but this is a sale price only on the screen and now ive asked them they have now whacked a grand onto each car if I was to trade in mine thus giving me very little back.

Now in all the years of trading in cars as I am not one for selling them privately (Lazy Sod itus) ive never come across a dealer who is going to whack money on the screen price when a trade in / P/X is mentioned.

Anyhow long story short has anyone got any good feedback/experience they can give me for this dealer?

Can anyone recomend a Dealer who they have bought an RX7 from or know someone who did and they gave them good service etc?

Cheers Dave

Hi Dudeone

If you end up back with the dealer I think their 1k increase on their RX7\'s makes them look a bit pricey.

Ask what history they have for the cars, rebuilds, recent comp test etc.
Could well get the 1k knocked back off.

I agree your\'e better off trying to move it private and looking ant one of the \'known\' cars for sale on here.

Good luck

John

Hi John,

I think that your probably right I would prefer to buy from a forum member as you then get a history of the car and generally know its been well loved.
Problem is that I am impatient and find it hard waiting but we will see.

I have a black Type X for sale in good condition. Yours for 6000, fresh engine rebuild with new rotor housings and bearings over 3000 spent on making it right. Its black with mazdaspeed alloys and leather interior plus sunroof and bose sound system.  Its an auto but i can supply parts to convert it to a manual if required, conversion should cost no more than 1000 all in.  If your interested in PX let me know what you were thinking of.

I have been surfing and spotted one Black REX you bought Cheap as it needed an engine re-build, I know this was a while back but is this either the same thing or the same car that you have listed in this thread?

Buy in haste, regret at leisure!

Very very applicable to rotaries.

I think it\'s still under construction but he can custom build you a rex and possibly take the MR2 as a part ex.......what the bloke doesn\'t know about rex\'s isn\'t worth knowing....he\'s done a few on here with insane results too....

He\'s just done a rex for me, my first one and believe me when I say you should talk to him....:wiggle

Another guy you might want to try is Jason @ super7autos. He sells a few cars which are rebuilt to a very high standard with a 1 year warranty. This is reflected in the price but in this case, you really will get what you pay for!
//www.super7autos.co.uk
Ive seen some of his stock and its just insane how mint it is. Also, Jasons cars are usually bone stock or near enough with only one or 2 modifications which is definitely worth more in my book!

Hi,

Tnx for the offer but after I had paid the extra for the manual conversion etc I would be defeating my own object as part of the change is so that I get a fair bit of cash back into my pocket.

If I had the cash now I would look at buying one of these three:

http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32238 (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32238)

The RX’s are in or are close to the price range I am looking to spend after my car is sold

Cheers Dave

Thats fair enough mate, well let me know eh? I believe for an auto to manual conversion you need gearbox, rear plate, loom and ECU. I have the gearbox and the rear plate, cant see loom and ECU costing that much (i actually have an ECU as well thinking about it!) so if you want to ask some of the vendors how much labour theyd charge to do the auto to manual swap then go ahead - you could even do it yourself if your mechanically minded.

Its your choice what you buy at the end of the day but i know i\'ve got a nice example that won\'t let you down...get in touch if you change your mind.
