Title: Can you cover one of the oil coolers??
Post by: Jim_rx7 on March 17, 2007, 02:00:04 PM
I fitted my number plate this morning and omg it looks bad!!... lol. Looks like a S2000 now!?!?

I have two oil coolers, one each side of the bumper. Would it be ok to cover one of these up or recommended not to? Do some rx7s not only come with one cooler??

would it not look better with a normal width UK plate ?

having said that I don\'t think it looks that bad ... it does need a plate after all is said and done.

Maybe it\'s because I was driving around without a front plate on. Now I\'m not used to it?

I think it would look best over one of the openings at either side of the bumper. But there are oil coolers there, so dunno if it\'s ok to cover one of them or not.

The oil coolers are there for a reason. Seems a bad idea to cover one up just for the sake of looks

Get a stick on plate mate. And get it made smaller !!

I definately wouldn\'t reccomend covering up an oil cooler but where you have your plate at the moment you are covering up a large percentage of your cars front air intake too.....cant be a good thing.

Rotary\'s do NOT like heat !!

when i had to put a plate on mine, i was told in no uncertain terms by my engine builder, Do not cover the holes at the front, they are there for a purpose. By covering them you are stopping cold air getting to the oil coolers, radiator and intercooler, all things which need that cold air. As red +single says, rotarys do not like heat! Sticky plates are the way forward unfortunately

Could I get away with putting a jap plate to one side in the opening of the cwest bumper. Cable tied to the mesh (in the main mouth of the bumper) without it obstructing too much airflow to other bits and bobs etc ?

Just get a plinth for the mark II MX-5. It need just a tiny bit of plastic cutting, and it fits beautifully.

Import cars are allowed 64mm lettering rather than the UK 80mm.

I think there needs to be 10mm of plate surrounding the letters too, so there\'s a smaller plate to start with.

Mine is a UK car mate.

Thinking of getting a foldy bracket thing.  (one that flips up at speed)

Anyone know who makes them??

Like the plod are gonna know if it\'s UK or not, trust me it\'s probably worth taking the risk, purely for aesthetics!

But if you get pulled for it you\'ll be required to prove it\'s an import.

I\'ve got a UK shape but slightly smaller lettering with as little white space around them as possible.  Doesn\'t obstruct anything and,as long as you don\'t take the pee with the size, you shouldn\'t get any hassle.
