Out of curio,
I have a Jl audio 12" sub than i\'m going to chuck in a box and fit into my FD 3rd gen. Not going to upgrade the front\'s/mids yet (just need some BASS as the normal, tinny sound is driving me mad plus they\'re amped up off the headunit) so just wondering what amp to go for. I used to run it off my Precision amp until I blew it up....
Chars:Thumbsup!
p/x at a reasonable cost....
Hi mate i would suggest upgrading the fronts as they will make a huge difference and its where you should aim to spend the most on.
Amp depends on the model of the sub, its rms power handling and how you wanna wire it, you can go for a mono amp that only runs the sub or then go for say a four channel amp so you can add the fronts to it when you upgrade.
the choice of brands is huge and its personal opinion
hope that helps
Part ex for what?
I want decent, NEW sound Laeeq....:D
or do you mean for my cannards?
I will eventually get a full install.....(probably go down the Diamond route ;)) just wanted a little bass to get me by....think i\'ve got a new rockford amp somewhere still in a box....I\'ll have a dig around..
Cheers :Thumbs-up
Go for a Directed 250d / 600d Amp for the sub alone, good strong amp.
I ran 3 x 12" diamond M5 dual coils on a single 600d !

I would agree the direceted is a very good unit. The Genesis Mono block is very very very good.... top peice of kit
Ok many thanks for your help gents....
My general idea is to now limo tint the rear window so I can remove the parcel shelf and build the sub box at a slight forward facing angle....as the JL needs more air in the box....however (as you know) diamonds work on less air so i\'ll cross that bridge when I come to it :wave
My only problem previously was the sub control on the head unit I had, had two settings.....off and full wack.....which obviously drowned out the front and mids....at least now I can control the sub!!
If you get a 600d it has a remote amp control bundled in with the amp ! I had a 14.4v line driver driving the amp as well :D
Shaun
a jl 500/1 would be ideal.
itll drive the sub till the sun goes down. its rated at 500 watts rms but would blow other 1000 watt amps out of the water as some of the more commercialised companies such as vibe and mutant measure the output at a power of 13.8 volts, a typical car is around 12.5 volts, might be wrong, but the difference affects the amount of watts the amp is putting out by a hell of allot. the jl amps have new technology which allows them to give out a consistent amount of power on a volt ranging from 11-14.5 volts.
good luck
