Title: Locking OSF
Post by: J4P RX on January 06, 2004, 08:30:08 AM
Whenever I have to stop hard, this always happens.  Well not always, but if I do lock up this is the one.

I quickly cleaned off the car last night, and this wheel had so much black brake residue on it that the dish just wouldnt wipe clean at all and is (for now) covered in thick black residue.  Whilst my other front was pretty dirty, it was nothing like this one and came off being wiped.

So.  Do I have something to worry about?

Arnt I supposed to have ABS too - thought all 3rd gens had that?

Hi Lee,

First check would be to pull your pads out of the N/S and check that the calliper pistons are free and working properly as this will cause this symptom.

Hope this helps

I havnt looked at this due to my arm issues, but how would I tell if I needed new discs?

I have just peeked through the wheel, and there appears to be some stuff stuck onto it.  Also, the dics did have grooves in them.  These grooves are now almost non existant and just tiny slits.

I have a bad feeling this is going to cost me lots of money, which I cant afford right now :(

Hi Lee,

It\'s been known quite a few times for the calipers to get sticky on 3rd gens. This can cause the same symptom. Also check the abs fuse isn\'t blown.

I best look at the caliper then.

Im not too worried about the ABS in itself, as I dont particualrly want it anyway - im just sure something is wrong on this wheel.
