Title: Backfire
Post by: strickerz on March 11, 2007, 05:28:01 PM
Hi all! New to all of this so be gentle.... Please. Bought an RX7 after following loads of advice from here so thanks for all the great write ups and everything... You guys know your stuff!

The car is a standard apart from a Mazda speed back box and has 7s and above on hot compression test all the way round.

I now have a couple of questions though... if I accellerate then quickly back of the trottle (is this overun?) I get a backfire... not huge but it does do it fairly regularly but only under this condition... is this something to worry about.

Secondly there is lots of mention about remapping for UK fuel. I have stock ECU and as far as I can tell the guy who owned it did nothing to it from that point of view. Is it only aftermarket ECU\'s that need to be remapped.

Thanks for the answers in advance...!

Paul

I don\'t think you\'re able to get the stock ECU remapped but you should be OK on a standard as long as you\'re running the car on super unleaded. Not that I\'ll be recommending any particular brand \'cos I don\'t want to start a flamewar :).

I\'ve got breathing mods on my car (both on the intake side and exhaust) and I finally went for a PowerFC although RoTechniks - who built both engine and did all the mods - suggested that it should be just about OK.

Remapping is more important if you\'re running with mods and/or have an ECU that\'s been mapped in Japan due to the 100RON fuel they can get there.

As to the backfire on overrun, well, you\'re dumping a lot of fuel into the engine, then take your foot off so there\'s a chance it\'ll fart politely...

cool.. Thought that might be the case! Thanks very much for the reply mate. can relax a bit more now. These cars are great!!!!! Had a 300zx TT before this and this is so much more responsive in the corners etc.

Always use super although can\'t guarantee the brand I get.

anyhow thanks again for the advice!!!!!!

Mine often back fires as I change gear ............ as for over run ......... don\'t you just love the sound :)  I particularly like " balancing " the revs as I drive slowly in 2nd ......... sounds gorgeous ........

Try tracking the car and really booting it up to 8,000 revs and suddenly lifting off .......... then you will hear it back fire properly .......... sounds like a gunshot .......... or maybe someone is shooting at me ?
