Title: Turbo II with flu!!
Post by: Adster on January 05, 2004, 08:19:07 PM
If anyone can shine a light it would be great!!

My Turbo II will NOT run until the temp guage is exactly half way. When up to temp the car goes like a rocket but when below half way on the temp guage I can hardly get over 2000rpm out of each gear before it sputters, coughs, judders all whilst the turbo is spinning its guts out trying to compensate and im being very throttle sensitive! Obviously this isn\'t good and I dont want to cause damage so any suggestions would be appreciated! I know the old rotary needs tlc and shouldnt be taken over about 3 to 3.5 thou revs whilst warming up but this is like the beast is gona snuff it!!

there is a valve on the tb which keeps the secondary plates shut untill the coolant reaches about 60*c. the valve is connected to a diaphram which has a rod attached to the secondary plates, they will only open about 10% untill the engine is upto normal operating temprature.

Thanks that sounds like it could be the problem!

Does something need replacing or adjusting or does your car do it as well. My last Turbo II never seemed to do this. I also get a slight juder every 3 or 4 seconds when in any gear but at a constant speed/revs even when up to temp.

i\'m not sure if mine used to do it, i removed that valve a while ago as it was not working and keeping the plates perminantley shut. juddering in gear sounds like a tps problem, mine used to do that before i adjusted it.
