Hi
Just wondering who are the top 10 of engine builders in uk?
As i will need one sooner than i thought.
Thanks :)
dont think there are ten maybe 5 at most
I\'d consider.....
Carl Hayward (Hayward Rotary)
Tim (RX Motors)
Max & co (ReWorx)
Ross (Dragon)
Jay Dee (An enigma !)
Pip (WGT)
Not in any order......
There is only two that will definitely give a warranty Carl Hayward and one thats not on the above list which is rotechniks. None of the others above will cover detonation. There are a few more options out there though.
Kevin
Dont forget Jimmys in that also. Andrew puts a warranty on the engines too.
There\'s a few of the above that say they give a warranty until you try to claim!

seems to be a very grey area..carl seems very upfront about his warranty
and i would guess most rebuilt engines dont go pop with anything but det so this wld seem to be the most important bit as if a engine pops other than with det then i would question build quality of that engine as to my mind a rebuilt engine with care shd be good for another 60 thousand miles
different if u run high boost but i feel a engine running 1 bar shd be at least a 50-60000 mile engine otherwise whats the point
mine popped due det the first time but the rebuild had abysmal compression on it so hoping third time lucky
As above the majority of builders don\'t warrant against det the most common cause of major engine failure other than water seals. Ask the builders what they cover make your choice and pay your money.

Ive heard nothing but good things about carls rebuilds. I have also had some other non rebuild mechanical proeblems in the past and they have usually been fixed with in 30 - 60 mins so a big thumbs up for Hayward rotary. :Thumbsup!
Speak to all first, and from experiance, get it in writting.
I have first hand experiance of listerning to tuners then not honouring the verbal agreements. (3 tuners)
I chased for invoices and never recieved them dont part with money until reciepted.
I hear people saying this tuner covers this, that tuner cover this. Crap and idol talk, get it in writting from the tuner.
There is only one tuner on the list above that has not to my knowledge had an engine blow on a customer, sometime the customers fault and sometime the tuners, quite often 2 side to the story. So ignore what people say on here get it from the horses mouth in writting, as the ones saying he warentees this or that arent the ones that will pick up the pieces if it goes wrong, they are merely expressing an opinion towards a fav tuner or friend.
All the above mentioned are cabable of giving you a good job, speak to them directly.
Thanks for that its useful ,my car has done 57.000 miles on original engine,is that an average then? Before rebuild.:)
^^ Sound advice from Gary ^^
another guy you might want to consider is Jason @ super7autos. //www.super7autos.co.uk
not as well known as these above guys, but just as good if not better than some of the above as an all round package IMO

Nothing is written in stone regarding rebuild mileage, an average figure is usually 60-65K, a compression check will allow you to see how well the engine is keeping up but is never a definate answer.
All depends on how the car has been treated in the past and if it has been maintained as it should be, single turbo rotaries will not last as long as twin turbo rotaries due to more pressure on the tips and the greater horse power.
Sound advice from Gary too, we can all quote decent engine builders but get your research done and choose the right builder for your car,
Gurj :yes
Thanks for your help, may see you all @ rotor show @ haynes museum in may, hope it will be good meet.
Something else to think about, when deciding who is going to do your rebuild, also consider what additional mods you want done, and mapping if any.
If an engine builder makes you an engine I doubt he will warentee it if some else later works on it or maps it.
Once again today I have spoken to a customer, with an almost new engine, blown up during mapping. Who will foot the rebuild the engine builder or the mapper. My money is on the owner.
It\'s a very difficult subject and if I was the engine builder I would think long and hard about someone else tuning my engine. So check your warentee for what you get, easy for one guy I know saying he warentees detonation, another thing maybe getting it warenteed.
Just cover your ar8e
^^ True. When I was at WGT on the weekend, Gatesey had to sign a disclaimer before his car was mapped - but because mine was built by them, I didn’t.
It might be a small detail, but it definitely gave me peace of mind when it was being done.

Another very big thing to consider is what actually constitutes a rebuilt engine? You can take apart an engine and replace few parts and it is still technically a rebuilt engine. Also you canb replace absolutely everything and it is still a rebuilt engine.
Without knowing exactly what is replaced the price is irrelevant. So it is alittle nieve to just consider the price.
Also dont just think about the block being built, consider fuel lines, vac hoses, service items etc.
