Its a great feeling when you first drive one....i remember putting a similar post up to yourself when i picked mine up.
Enjoy it mate!:WaveBye
Im taking it real easy at the moment, i get really paranoiod just driving around incase anyone gets too close to her!!
DC1 - if you see a black N reg rex around kettering come say hi!
Ate thru £30 worth of petrol yesterday alone just driving normally (covered ledd than 100miles!) but well worth it!
Just one thing i cant work out (not really important, but nice to know..) i dont get the BOV?! Obviosly when i blip the throttle a fair amount it sounds, and if i give it a little boot in 1st, 2nd, but thats about it! I know the turbos have to be spooled up for it to sound, but then this morning whilst driving at a normal (30ish mph) and changed gear it \'whoosed\' and caught half the street by suprise!
It just seems to sound when it likes! Is this just me being a tool?!
Pleased for you (and us, we have another convert)

nice one croig another rex in northants, im in wellingborough, :wave

Have you got a boost gauge?
Mine is mapped to a maximum boost of 0.9bar... and my BOV only sounds after I accelerate hard enough to get positive boost... the more boost, the more BOV noise... (obvioulsy, cos its releasing the pressure)
you can eassily drive off-boost (negative pressure) without really using the turbos and without getting any BOV noise. But then why would you want to do that? ;)
If you accelerate hard in 3rd gear from about 30mph (~2000rpm) with wide open throttle, you should hear the first turbo spool up, and at about 4,500rpm it\'ll release (possible slight BOV noise) and the second turbo will pick up.... from then on the second turbo will keep spooling until you release the throttle and boost will build up to your maximum. When you release the throttle you\'ll get the main BOV noise and pressure release...
The transition from first to second turbo should be smooth and the power delivery should be constant... though you might hear/feel a slight dip in boost.
If you don\'t have a boost gauge (aftermarket one that is) I\'d recommend getting one... it can help with all sorts of diagnosis\' and its good to see how the turbos are getting along..
PS - welcome!!! :wave :wave
Welcome to a World beyond every driving experience you have ever known.:wave
P.S. i\'m in Northants as well.............daventry.:Thumbsup!
Thanks Redrummy!
I dont have a boost gauge yet, but its on the list of things to get (when i can afford) cause as you said, its nice to see what the turbos are doing.
I do like my BOV tho, as it has the recirculation sound on the 1st turbo (albeit relatively quiet) and a hoofing great whoosh when the second turbo unloads! So a nice bit of variety there! :D
Also i have noticed the power begins to feel like its flattening out at around 5000 revs, is this normal? I have only had the car 2days now, so i know i\'ll need to learn how it drives properly before i can ultimately compare where power bands come in etc!
The previous owner had a full rebuild at Jimmy\'s at the end of Jan, so it needs to go in for its check up before too long anyway.
Loving it to bits tho :King
power should come on strong from the bottom of the rev range, drop slightly at around 4500 - 4800 revs while the second turbo comes on line. After 4800 revs you should be concentrating pretty hard.
Hmm, havent noticed that second power band yet... but as i said i probably just need to learn to drive the car properly 1st :D
if you haven\'t noticed the second turbo coming on line then I suggest you get a boost guage and check it out. When I first got a Rex the first time I planted my foot and the second turbo came on, I nearly brown trousered my lovely new car. Admittedly it was running over 300atw rather than stock but I imagine you can\'t miss the kick from the turbos even on a stocker.
Dude where be the pics ? :spank
We still waiting to see some pics of the new arrival :Thumbsup!

Once i finally get my new rx7 there will be even more in the area :Party :Party :Party
Heh hell yeh we should get a northants/leics meet soon!
Dont think the 2nd turbos spooling up properly cause i still havent noticed the brown trouser effect yet, seems to be a bit of a lull after 4500. Would the recent rebuild mean the boost might have been turned down? I really need to get on the fone to Jimmy\'s.
Hopefully some pics in the next couple of days - should have been today but next door neighbour has decided to have his house re-pointed, so my car is now covered in brick dust :2Mad
Taken some pics tonite (covered in dust), how do i get the URL of the pic?! Argh i only want to cut and paste!!
open an account at photobucket.com then you can linky your images

Nice car you have there :yes
Is it an R2? I ask becouse it has rear seats?
Thanks Grizzly! Im not too sure, tho i believe it is sheerly on what i have been told; that the R2 has an 2 oil coolers, 1 behind each air dam in the front.
What does it mean if its an R2? Uprated suspension and the like?
Nice looking car chap. Best of luck with it.
The R2 has no rear wiper and plastic bins so it ain\'t one of those. I only know this as my bro has an R2.
EDIT - Lovely looking car my friend!
Urm R2\'s do have rear wipers (becouse two localy to me have them fitted) also the R2 to my Knolage is the only model to have the carbon seats?
Also it has Black Dial Surounds, White front Fogs and No sunroof.
Its an R2 that some one has Swaped the Bins for rear seats for some WILD!! reason.
Quote from: croigWhat does it mean if its an R2? Uprated suspension and the like?
Its Basicly the "Sports" Model, Its Lighter and has a few tweeks here and there to make it more sporty. If you want a More Spec\'d version you would go for an Rb etc which is a bit more of a nice driving car (Bit softer Suspension, Leather seats, Climate Control etc).
looks a very clean example matey, one of the tidest looking interiors I\'ve seen.
I would definitely find out about the econd turbo though mate because for me these cars are all about after that baby spools up.
If its just been rebuilt it may be running a conservative map and limited boost. Very easy to fit a boost gauge (there\'s a spare nipple on the plenum) and it will give you some answers very quickly

Correct apart from the fact that R2\'s didnt come with front fogs as standard. The white sticker in the door jam will be able to spread some light onto what version the car is.
One of the previous owners may of aquired a family after his rx so needed additional seating??

Well sort off, I belive the R1\'s Fogs where Yellow and the R2\'s where White (and yes they where an Option)
From what i read the Fogs where Stock on X types but they had Diffrent seats and Chrome Dial Bezels.

Yep, my X has got yellow fogs, leatehr seats, and chrmoe bezels. Also got a sunroof which this car hasn\'t.
Thanks for the cool comments on my car guys!
It has white fogs as you can see, and the dials have no silver surround...
Has leather rear seats and leather roof lining.
I keep meaning to ring Jimmy\'s about whether the boost and mapping have been toned down during the 1st couple of months after the rebuild. Dont get me wrong, its still scarily fast, but just seems to calm down after about 4800 as mentioned.
Going to get a boost guage as soon as money will allow (possibly a power FC one day if i feeling flush!)
Oh and another thing - i have learnt to drive very sensilby already - she ate £30 of juice a day over last weekend... :( lol
Yep you learn to let the Boy racers go very quickly :yes

damn, that\'s why i spend so much on fuel! enjoy the car bud, you bought the fastest colour!
Looks a great car! My car is an R2, ive got twin oil coolers, but no rear wiper
ive got twin oil coolers, have rear wiper,no fogs at front and seats at back so whats mine say elfini on back off car. and a meet sound good to me.
Depends on what year? Does it have a sunroof?
If it has Twin Coolers its going to be an R if its Origanal, but depending on what year (i.e. 92-94 is usaly a R or R1, 94- gets a bit Difficult. that could be one of a few Models but the most comon is R2)
Mine also has an efini badge at the back, isnt that just the \'sporty\' side of mazda? bit like ford and cosworth?
I\'m fairly sure all Imports are Efini\'s
The Proper Sporty Rx7 is the Spirit or RZ (basicly the ones with Carbon Recaro seats)
There was an RZ that i nearly went to look at before setteling for this one. To be honest, i didnt really like the Recaros, they look like they deteriorate faster than the normal spec seats, plus they have solid backs - so long journeys (if you could ever afford one in these) would be a complete nightmare!
