...OIL
Yes i way overfilled the oil.
See, i was just about to top up the oil, it was v low, and as i began to fill her up a rather attractive female cauaght my eye. A conversation and many sexual inuendos (sp) later, the bottle was empty.
My mind being elsewhere i didnt particularly notice, put the cap back on and started her up (the car). It was a bit cold so i didnt mind the tiny bit of steam (like when you breath out) and my fd sounded alot better, so i set off.
Bit of smoke goin down the road, and i assumed again it was this steam. Got the short distance to the motorway and stepped on the gas......POOF!
Plumes of white ( i think, nothing near pure white but not distinctly blue ) smoke evrywhere caking the motorway. Naturally i pull over to the hard shoulder and think "wtf?".
Try to start her up again after a little rest and, yup, smoke still there. I said some rather nasty things directed at whoever/whatever was taking delight in annoying me that day, and decided that id try limp home again :(
After a short while, 5-10 mins or so, the smoke had completely stopped and stayed that way till the end of my journey. Car was running OK, smoke started again when i tested higher revs 3k+ so didnt do that again.
Got her home and left it to rest for a while. Went back out and when i started her up felt a bit rough on idle, rolled it forward and yes there was a wee puddle of oil. Opened up the bonnet to find just a small bit of oil was escaping from the actual cap and that looks like where the puddle has come from.
This has been a very long post i know, just wondering if theres any chance of significant damage here. The car itself sems to be ok with no warning lights, just a bit rough ( like myself after a full meal ). Also, if you have any tips on what, if anything, i should do next would be great.
Cheers,
:Thumbsup!
I would check to see if it\'s blown a gasket somewhere. Sometimes putting too much oil in the engine is just as bad as too little oil. My mom blew up her passat 1.8Turbo buy overfilling the oil.
if she was really hot then its ok :D
Quote from: interloper393if she was really hot then its ok :D
yes :)
anywho, im quietly confident that itll just be able to burn off the excess, although ill try let some of it out tomorrow. hope it hasnt blown a gasket, cause my wallet is still trying to recover from buying the car.
=======UPDATE========
Just tried to start her up, seemed to be juddering about alot, physically not revs etc, tried to just get round the block v slow but it just juddered about and cut out, tried a few more revs incase i was being overcautious but cut out again :(
Cant even begin to tell you how low this is takin me
Sorry to hear your plight dude.. :(
women are evil.. what more can i say.. :spank
Is the engine shaking really badly? if it is it may be folwed plugs dude.. maybe worth draining all the oil and replacing the oil filter?
its weird, it doesnt feel like its just the engine, the entire car :( but id say quite bad. On tick over it wont stall, just when i try to move it.
will do a full oil change tomorrow, and well see from there. although i had thought it may be the plugs, am gonna be getting someone from a local garage to look at it tomorrow.
i know all good things must come to an end, but not this soon surely? :)
is your local garage familar with rx7`s and rotaries bud? took my first one to a few and none of them had a clue.. you any where near a specialist? that would be the best thing or phone one of the 1`s at the top for some advise, try reworx :D
nearest specialist is WGT and thats a long way away, its a shame theres no knowledgeable forum folk round here. but i knew that as i tried to spread the rx7\'s power base :)
im gonna leave it running in idle for a while tomorrow morning, see if it just burns it off. if so i can get to the garage it was booked in at allready. ( although he isnt Familiar with Rx7\'s he does have some knowledge and is a damn good mechanic ). if that doesnt work its full oil change, if that doesnt work its the local garage.
If they dont know, im boned :)
didnt you undo the nut and drain off the excess oil?
had the local garage pump out the oil so that its just full. She is now, however, misfiring with the associated pop pop pop form the exhuast.
So plugs will need changing, hopefully once ive changed the plugs she\'ll be ok. Im pretty sure i know where im going with his, but ill need to remove the elbow on passenger side to get access from the top?
and on a side note the local garage actually has quite a bit of knowledge with these cars as they have done alot of work for an importer of performance cars :)
yeah deffo change the plugs bud, if you remove the elbow and strut bar(if fitted) plugs are a doddle, do one at a time tho so you know where they go lol
will do :) 7\'s in the leading, 9\'s in the trailing.
if you can get it up in air do plugs from under neath a lot easyer
itll have to be from top, not really got the right stands for it to be safe up in the air.
on a side note, who supplies new plugs? Ive been everywhere today tryin to find em and they are nowhere :(
sorry for double post, but theres no way those plugs are coming out from the top. time for plan B.......buy a bicycle :)
will have to get it up on a ramp next week to get at em, still smoke on startup and revs though :(
remove the strut bar and inlet pipe first..
You`ll need a rachet, a long extension and the bendy swivel bit, and the socket for the plugs... may be a fiddle but you can get them out easily enough bud.. takes me 15mins to do all 4 plugs from start to finish lol had alot of practice :D.. id giv ya a had if you drive up to scotland :yes
Do the plugs from underneath there a piece of cake mate, surely someone you know must have an axel stand?
Alan
well, managed to get all the plugs out and clean em up.
By this point i should mention that the car wont actually start anymore.
tried to start again after putting pugs back in and didnt work.
today ive had a local tuner have a look at it, hes done alot of work with these kind of cars and some RX7\'s. After trying many a trick, we tried putting some warmer plugs in (B5ES to be precise). Obviously the car cant be run on these but we did manage to get the engine started. after a short run to wake up the engine if you will, we put in a new set of plugs and she\'ll now start up on those.
Still ALOT of white smoke on startup from reltively cold, and some blueish after that. Im told the blueish smoke will last a while as the oil will have got everywhere. The real challenge will be tomorrow morning, after a nights rest, to see if she starts.
Idle also hunts after any accceleration now between 900 - 1100, im told that removing the fuse for a while may help this? Ive been told not to do it for a while though. (If anyone has a deciphered fuse box cover thatd be great :) )
We did a compression test while the plugs were out, and it wasnt particularly good news :(.
iv heard that unless its for a rotary engine then the normal compressor things aint very reliable bud.. n yeah she`ll smoke for a while until all the excess oils burnt away..
we arent in the clear yet, but the clouds are slightly less dark :)
just wondering how long itll be before i stop hearing "oi mate, your cars on fire"
