Title: Thinking of selling the coupe
Post by: grinder on March 09, 2007, 12:15:36 PM
Hiya chaps

what a wierd start to a day !!

got up , had breakfast and cleaned the coupe

now for some strange reason i have decided that i want to sell it

not 100% sure about it yet - but the more i look at it , the more i dont want it on the drive

this is really really worrying ??

i dont know whats come into me to be honest - took it out for a spin last night and its fine - no probs at all - very ammusing at WOT with the new exhaust

but as i was cleaning it - the car had lost all interest .. i cant figure out whats going on to be honest

you all know me and the car and the amount of work i have put into it - but if i put it for sale for between 800 - 1000 do you think i would sell it ??

gonna get it MOT\'d in the next few weeks to find out whats wrong ( there is bound to be as its the story of my life )

just cant put my finger on this sudden urge ??

not sure if its down to the fact that i have mty 2nd child arriving in May and that a RX7 isnt that practical and the fact that the more that i look at the cab - the more i want to drive that with the roof down

im really confused to be honest - i cant work it out .. im not sure if this is just a passing phase or what

so i thought i would post up on here - so that you can either knock some sense into me or tell me that im actually growing up and realising thats cars arnt the bee all and end all of life .. supposed i need to grown up eventually as im coming up 31 , house , kid ( +1 ) etc..

this is soooooooooooooooooooooo stange

think i might go back to bed !! LOL :D

Stu / Grinder

yeah im still here - i really cant figure this out ... WOW - what a wierd feeling this is ?!?!?! how very strange .. i have had this attachment to the car for sooooooooooo long and now its not there .. i look at it - and its just a lump of metal on the drive way .. ekkk this is scary !!!

It\'s the cleaning that did it, I\'d say.

Probably hallucinations from the fumes - what were you using to clean it?

ha ha ha !! normal cleaning stuff !! LOL :D :D

just been speaking to the better half about it - and even she is worried !!

As we discussed at the old skool meet mate, The cab will be a better long term option for you, it has higher residuals too.  Plus if you really want to the auto-manual conversion is no real biggie.  :yes

And knowing what you know now, it wont take you long to get simialr power out of the cab :D

the real reason Stu wants to sell is he wants one of those turtles instead LoL

The Cab does seem like a good option, can always sell it on and get another coupe + a bit of cash left over when you fancy a change as well

auto to manual conversion isnt that hard at all actually!

i decided to psycho analyse you.

You was washing the car and thought "man i cant be arsed with this thing anymore esp when i got a cabrio that needs sorting".

You see the beautiful sunny day and you want to go out and get a bit brown while doin something you love? for the past few summers youve been driving about in the coupe but this year with the new arrival on the way.. you just after a change.. i reckon

Sell the coupe - do up the cabrio - save wats left!

really ???

its on a linux server and runs PHP - there is no dodgy code in there as i coded it in notepad ?

i have run it at work - and there is no probs and we have serious virus protection etc...

sorry about that - but i have no idea ?
Title: Thinking of selling the coupe

back to the coupe :D

really dont know whats come over me to be honest

and to make matters worse - i have no idea what its worth

i have to keep it another 3-4 weeks anyways as i need to get it MOT\'d - and the outcome of that will help me decide what to do

im not sure if doing the exhaust has pushed me over the edge - im really not happy with the fitment of it - and i gave my old exhaust away - so im stuck with what i have

like i said - i really dont know whats going on to be honest

if i do sell - it will be sold pretty cheap anyways , i reckon certainly sub £1000 - i dont want it sat on the drive for long if the decision is made

i will then prob go thru all my rx7 stuff and flog all that off aswell and just have the cab as a stock car and leave it that way

hell - i dont know .. :(

bit young for a mid life crisis dude - maybe after seeing my engine bay you had \'cab envy\'  ? :D

Think long and hard before you decide Stu - you don\'t want to regret a rash decision - I have been doing that a lot recently and it\'s no fun :(

First dibs on anything good your selling - £50 grinder friendly limit mind !:Thumbsup!

If I were you, I\'d get the MOT out of the way first - and get a pass!  Then decide.

If it were me I would sell the coupe (Stick it up for £1500ono) , sell the other bits you dont really want and use the money to get the cab on the road, taxed and with a few nice mods :yes

If the exhaust fit is really bad come to me and we will get it jacked up high and have a proper look. It may just be that you need to loosen stuff to get it to sit better. I had the whole of my exhaust for the 1st gen loose because it was a bit of a mare.

Plus I hope Driving the 1st gen hasn\'t mad you think like this. Blimey I take you out in the FD and you have sleepless nights thinking of selling. You drive the 1st gen and think about selling your car again.

SNAP OUT OF IT !!!!!!!

Are you thinking of selling it with the pure intention of focusing on the cab or do you have a sneeky desire for something different? Be honest ;)

Saw this Infini4 style cab last night and thought it was a nice combination btw

ha ha ha i cant see the point of having a car i dont use

i whinge about putting juice in it and stuff like that

i just seem to have problem after problem with it :(

in the 3.6 yrs of owner ship its done about 3000 miles - is that fair on a car like this ??

dave - i have a RAFT of parts matey - all put together are worth more than the car i think

brett - the car - humm not sure on price - i reckon about £1000 to be honest

im still not sure - just i have lost a lot of interest in it - and i dont know why - it does sounds like a mid life crissis - but then you usually buy a sports car not sell one !! LOL

Shuan - thanks for the offer of assistance - i might have to take you up on that ... having looked at the exhaust - its catching a lot of thinks underneath - and i have no idea why - but there is no vibration under the car and it doesnt bang - im thinking thats cause its sooo tightly wedged

need to get the mot sorted before i do anything rash with it - unless someone wants it as spares/repair ??

thats a nice example the tan roof is soooooooooooooooooo rare ( if its the genuine one )

the intention of selling it would be to focus on the cab

i do have a desire for something different to be honest - i want a lotus 7 style kit car ( catherham , locost , westfield etc.. ) - they just look dead easy to maintain , do more than 15 MPG and you can get parts from ANYWHERE for them

im just not sure what to do !

bike is already in the garage waiting :D

i think it will all hinge on the MOT - i just have a real bad feeling about this exhaust to be honest

but i dont know how to sort it out - with out major mods to the underside of the car

maybe its just me looking on the bad side of EVERYTHING ??

We all have days like these bud, every time i hear a new rattle or sqeak or knock or splutter... I\'m in a similar situation myself, I have the FD as my daily car (which lets face it is just plain silly) and the bug in the garage... I have a lot of money in the bug but it aint finished and hasn\'t got very far in the last year and a half. I now have a lot of money in the FD and more with every mile... I think I\'ve probably gone a little too far for a daily car, it\'s very loud and it\'s all too tempting to put my foot down. Every now and then I have a day where I think maybe i should get a sensible car, then i drive a normal car and remember why i love the rotary... Cant win!

You\'re just a few years on from where I am now, you have the sensible car, two rex\'s and a bike...

Stu

Yeh - but you already had one - so it works in reverse !! :D

I\'m with the comments above - put a 13b or even a 20b into a westfield or wide caterham body - you know it makes sense - mileage will be good - you\'re never going to need more than a 1/3 throttle with a car that light, and you will be spanking the arse :spank off everything on the road - plus all the lights / seats / suspension are easy and accessible !

But if your making room for more kids - surely the other \'7\' is even less practical ?:3Confused
Title: Thinking of selling the coupe
Post by: grinder on March 10, 2007, 01:24:36 PM
all 7\'s arent practical to be honest - so a 2 seater cab is no worse

im getting more and more tempted to get the cab on the road - its solid under neath - fresh rebuild etc.. - its prob easy got another 5 yrs in it

the coupe - hummmm the more i think about it the more i get depressed about it

hopefully got another exhaust on the way to me ( toady fingers crossed ) so if i have chance will get it swapped over - and then its MOT time ( end of the month )

think im just having a bad time what with new baby arriving in a few months and this exhaust i just feel like giving up

its YOU guys that keep me going :D

well it goes from bad to worse

phil arrived with a spare exhaust - and yup - that doesnt fit either

the only exhaust that will fit on the car is the one i gave away

phil has taken the stainless one away to try it on the car that has my exhaust on to see what its like

so now i have a car thats really annoying me with no exhaust on it and not sure when it will have :(

Hmmmm sell them both and the bike and all the bits you have in your attic and then go out and look around until you find a nice 20b cosmo. It has loads of room for the ruggies and the missus and as you have seen from Kevs it also has potential.
Seriously get it through an mot otherwise it wont be worth half as much.
 cheers, michael.

not a bad idea - but i really dont think i could get a cosmo in the "potential" garage !!

i know it needs a MOT - thats why i wont make a choice until that point

Hmmmm hows about selling it all then getting yourself a nice old skool piece of machinery?? An RX4 would fit the familly for fun days out and also be alot of fun! Just look at Rays 4 coupe, it is schmick as and really good fun around a circuit too.  If only my moggy would accidently burn to the ground, I would buy your coupe from you. It is snowing up here today inbetween hailing so doing the whole project thing outside is wearing thin!!!

Its not a bad idea, Ray has a few rx4\'s that would make extremely good project cars, get the shell blasted and rebuilt then rebuild the car !

Would be alot of fun :D

it all sounds well and good apart from

1 - dont have the space
2 - dont have the time
3 - dont have the skills
4 - dont have the funds
5 - she wont let me

i think that about sums it up to be honest

youve got snow - thats pretty cool - i think its due this way during the week

the coupe is still sat on the axle stands which is surprising as its a force 10 gale here today !! LOL :D

So how are plans today stu??????
Was thrying to put myself into your shoes today but as i have no ruggies and no mortgage obviously it is nearly impossible!!!  But hows about this one..........sell everything. Buy a half decent wrx wagon as the family car, loads of space and plenty of room for sensible mods but nothing too wack.
Then part two. Look around for an interesting rotor as a fun car. I have been hearing of loads of very cool cars (like old skool and 1st gen\'s) recently and I think you would enjoy the chase and hunting down the right car for you. They are out there it just takes someone to ask the right questions, and lots of them.
think that brett was advertising a wagon too.
Title: Thinking of selling the coupe
Post by: grinder on March 18, 2007, 08:36:08 PM
yeah brett was selling a wagon

to be honest - im trying not to think about what to do !! - its easier that way

i KNOW for a fact that i need to get the coupe thru the MOT before any choice is made - so i have about a month before that has to happen

i really really fancy the cab at the mo - so i will still have a rex and still be on here ( so that keeps me very happy )

i seem to be at a point in life where i just want a car to drive and not worry about adding stuff to it and worrying about it every 10 mins and thats what i do with the coupe

i know there is nothing wrong with it - but i want to be playing with it and making it better ( i blame the other FC owners like Dave , T2Rew , Sadgoth etc... for this ) - so the cab seems the ideal car - leave it as it ( stock ) and drive and enjoy it

to be honest i have 2 cars in mind that i would like

1 - catherham ( or a copy ) these just look cool and parts are easy to come by
2 - sell everything and buy a volvo - this is the complex one - as its a lot of money for me ( over £4K ) and the insurance and fuel costs would be just silly - yup you guessed it - i want the S80 T6 - 272 BHP of twin turbo fun - and a 5 door - nice and practical

i have also been looking a BMW\'s and the such like

i think the coupe has to go - its been great for the last 3.xx yrs - i just need a change

the cab seems the best option - and its worth more ( as people have pointed out ) and i would just drive it and enjoy it - simple as that - it still good for well over 140 ( i think ) so its not a slow car by any means

so the plan as of NOW is

1 - get the coupe MOT\'d
2 - work out if to turn it back to a stock car and see for £xxx or leave it with all the stuff in it ( gauages etc... ) and sell it for more
3 - go thru ALL my parts and work out what i need and what i dont then sell on - the only thing i wish i never bought was the FMIC - im not sure if i can make back anywhere near what i paid for it ???

so thats the plan !!

i dont know if to sell the coupe CHEAP just to get shut or hold out for a few hundred more - its also need taxing and insuring - so if i can avoid that then the better

if push comes to shove then i will sell it as a pretty stock TII ( apart from the decatted exhaust and FCD ) with a 12 month MOT and no tax and try and get about £600 - £700 now im not sure if thats possible or not ( i have no idea of the FC market to be honest - its all over the place )

so who wants a cheap FC then !! LOL :D

Stu

If I was going to get a sensible car I\'d get something with a deisel in it, something tunable... Been in a few VW/Audis with chipped oil burners and they absolutely fly! You\'d be suprised... 200hp and a SHED LOAD of torque - 40+mpg - Turbo (ok it\'s diesel) - take your pick from the VAG range as far as practicality (small hatch/medium hatch/saloon/estate) only downside is price...

Just an idea....

:3gears-rh - Brings a new meaning to the smoking smiley too! :burnout

Title: Thinking of selling the coupe
Post by: sadgoth on March 19, 2007, 11:17:57 AM
Stu, so you are having a crisi of Rex ownership eh?

Hmm, tough one - I actually have put a lot of my life on hold in favour of the TII, so I\'m coming at it from the other side so to speak. I know what you mean about costs etc, it is expensive and the risk of something going wrong...etc etc.

I think keeping the Cab (worth more, better condition and all the other logical reasons) is a good idea. Like we said at the Old Skool meet, the reason for keeping the Coupe is purely that you have put so much into it and it becomes emotional. If you have lost that emotional connection with the car and you can look at it with cold logic, you have 2 FCs one which has a bit of welding, hasn\'t been rebuilt and is the less desireable hardtop the other is almost mint with a new engine and a convertable to boot! the Cab is the obvious choice.

re: the FMIC, you should get back what you paid, trust me, you got a really good price on that and all the piping etc is new and unused. You may want to keep it for the cab further down the road ? ;)

Get the MOT done, and take it from there.
