Had a bit of an odd one, car\'s been running fine for ages now so I was heading out in it today (with 4 wheels in there! Sweet!) and thought I\'d better check the coolant and oil levels... So had a peek down the filler neck and everything looked OK.
Then went for a drive to one place, stopped fine, then went off somewhere else dropped the wheels off, then back home then pick up a PC and off out again.
Got out from installing the PC and after about 2 minutes the coolant buzzer starts to go off... So I look for water in the car but I\'ve drunk it all ;) So there\'s a petrol station round the corner thinks I, but within another minute or so the buzzer goes off and everything is all normal again... The temp gague didn\'t move at during this time...
...So I guess I could have upset the levels by taking the filler cap off right? I just find it nigh on impossible to check levels on the dip stick thingy. Oh, and no white smoke when starting either.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Mark
Ah, right dont use dip stick on plastic bottle on drivers side behind light, it is an over flow bottle only, if you put water in here it will upset the balance. Always fill from small cap in middle of engine (not the ast, small tank next to it either)
Cheer Gary,
That\'s the one I checked, the pressure cap without a spring, I could see collant a wee way down the neck...
But I didn\'t need to put any water in for the buzzer to stop... I guess it could have drawn some from the the overflow but would it take that long?
Mine has done this on the odd occasion. Comes on for no reason for about 1 minute then stop. I have no coolant loss or anything like that. Thought it may be an air block circulating so i left the cap off overnight and started it up with the cap off in the morning, putting it back when the water started to get near the top of the filler. It has not done it since but then it only did it now and again anyway.
