Title: Coolant change, what to use...
Post by: Cally on March 08, 2007, 09:59:59 AM
Going to change the coolant on my FD as I am doing a service, but I am unsure what coolant to use and where to get it as I know some can encourage rust on rotors or something?!
I have green coolant at the moment which would have been put in when RE:WORX rebuilt the engine, so want to use the same/similar stuff.
I have done a search but most of the posts are people panicing about water seal failure or coolant loss. So what stuff would people reccommend and how much do I need, also what mixture do people recommend? I have heard 50/50 but also heard folk saying this is too much, with summer coming up what do people suggest?

Cheers.

Have a look at the \'Radiator Coolant\' post, just a few threads down in the General Technical Posts. Some advice in there.

But anything EG coolant, pink stuff isn\'t supposed to be too good however so anyting blue of green ;)

Also I\'d go for a 30% coolant / 70% distilled water mix as water has better cooling properties.

I use a 40% mix because it stays in for 3 years and if thats the case I have to protect for the worst forseeable winter condition in Doncaster, which is relatively sheltered.(Car is garaged as well, not out in the open). Also I don\'t run the car hard so the cooling system is never under stress like on track days. Bluecol for me every time for ordinary road use.
