Title: which clutch?
Post by: trevtubby on March 07, 2007, 08:39:16 AM
hi,

My clutch has started slipping on high boost so i`m after getting a new one.

What would people recommend as a good value for money clutch kit? The car is practically standard engine wise with just a power fc, straight through exhaust and a greddy boost controller.

I`m not looking to do anything to the engine so i`m not after a top of the range paddle clutch or anything. Just something which is good value for money and is easy to use in traffic etc as its an everyday car.

Also what sort of prices am I looking at to get the clutch fitted? Oh and would I be better of getting a lightened flywheel too? or just get my re-skimmed?

Thanks

Trev

anybody had any experience with one of these? I take it they are pretty much the same sort of spec as a standard clutch?

Hi Trev,

Exedy clutches are fitted to all RX-7/RX-8 models on the assembly line, also chances are your flywheel will be O/K and will not need skimming.

We sell 2 types of "standard type" Exedy clutches, and here\'s some details for you.

FD-CT001- "Exedy” Standard FD 3 piece Clutch newly developed asbestos free friction facing is used which has high heat resistance and high burst strength characteristics. Superior in shift operations and half-engagement, this clutch disc is recommended for street sports use. We recommend using this product with our reinforced clutch cover.
Price: - £225.00 (£20.00)

FD-CT002 -"Shy Auto developed Exedy Stage One 3 piece Clutch” with cerametalic centre plate. This clutch offers your car a very good bolt straight in upgrade for any Twin Turbo car or car with a small single turbo and will still drive nicely in traffic.
Clutch covers for the Normal Type Series are designed to achieve a clamping load that is 40% higher than the genuine part allowing a higher torque transmitting capacity. Ductile pressure plates are used for all applications and high burst strength can be achieved in all temperature ranges.
Price:-£345.00 (£20.00)

Please add Vat to the above prices

Hope this helps,

ah right ok lol, thanks for that :Thumbsup!

any idea how long a clutch "should" take to fit? is an rx7 any different to any other performance car? should any half decent mechanic be able to fit one without messing it up? :D

Any half decent mech will be able to fit this, biggest thing to remember is that they have to undo the pressure plate bolts from the flywheel to pull the g-box out.

I guess the only question nobody has asked is how much power is the car making. If you can go for a normal natural clutch then the car will drive better. I have an excedy hyper single and its not very practical. Heavy pedal and very on/off

281.5bhp to be exact lol.

I am thinkin of just going for the standard exedy clutch as i`m not going to be going for more power. But then, I dont know if its worth spending a bit extra and getting one of those uprated one`s...hmm...
