Post by: Bobfish on March 06, 2007, 06:47:07 PM
Gotta love em :o)

Just taken mine for a spin round the block, ebay downpipe and decat + 4inch jasma system (4 inch all the way from cat section back) with 4 inch tip and un-silence back box.

Idle is loudish, but not massively offensive - car hasnt been mapped yet so driving very sedately just to keep her fluids running...blipping the throttle on downshifts is absoloutely gorgeous!  She just barks so loud with a jump of 500rpm up as i shift down, i love it :)

give it a few months,  you will want something a little more sedate!  Or maybe i have had rx7\'s for too long and i\'m getting old.

Its taken me years to get mine quiet without loss of performance

I take you 2 are attempting to change the downpipe. I\'ve just fitted a reamemiya dolphin backbox on mine. Loveley burble on tickover and is nice n quiet. Im in 2 minds wether to fit my stainless downpipe or leave it to one of the vendors

Same here mate got the same backbox and enormous DP, silenced mid pipe to come yet, but looking at the DP is a bit daunting!! i hope that as the motor was rebuilt 2 years ago, i might have a chance of getting it off with lots of WD! i don\'t know if it\'s best from the top or underneath or both!
good luck Bob

if you do a search you`ll find a good ref on how to do it.
looks like its good to get from above once you remove all the turbo pipes.
im quite lucky ive got oxy acetaline bottles and burning gear lol

When you do replace the DP, remove the studs (if you can do it easily!) and install new studs and new nuts. Tap the nuts out before you install them, the mazda nuts use a locking mechanism that locks the nuts to the studs, and the studs rust in the holes = snapped studs.

tap the new nuts out and youll have easy downpipe changes for years.

p.s dont think ill get bored of the noise! I hardly ever drive the car, its only for going out for blats so im sure itll be fine :)

Hi

I have just got back from Canary Warf to North London and I am half def…

I have had recently silenced mid pipe put in and together with HKS back box it is just getting to my max re noise….

I am not sure if it will stay this way, I may go the high flow cat way as oppose to de cat â€" the car is fduckin’ loud !!!

Regards,
Michaelb

As stated above take special care with the studs when changing the downpipe

99% of the time they snap !

Thanks for the advice carl. So if 1 of the 4 sdud snaps in the turbo pack whilst removing the dp, is it a turbo off job, and if 1 of 8 stud snaps taking the turbo off, is it a engine out job?
