Title: Project Mav
Post by: BenLewisMav on March 06, 2007, 04:23:42 AM
I\'ve recently purchased a white 1989 Turbo II coupe which I bought from Mashamoto Auctions as a project, it has no/little compression in the rear rotor but has had quite a bit of work done to its body/suspension and a few aftermarket parts fitted (details later). The aim is a 400rwhp road car.

(- can highly recommended the above company to anyone looking to import/modify or just generally do car-related business, excellent customer service, always quick and helpful responses. Have been in touch with a guy there called Matthew for a few months, who arranged the delivery and sale of the car, and is currently organising a warantee and delivery for a rebuilt engine. check it out at http://www.mashamoto-auctions.co.uk (http://www.mashamoto-auctions.co.uk/) or http://www.mashamoto.co.uk (http://www.mashamoto.co.uk/) [new site, not complete?] )

Got it delivered to the workshop last weekend so this weekend started stripping out the interior to see what I had in terms of quality bodywork;

-Thats all I had time for last weekend. I\'m going back this weekend so may have an update, but I have to change the rear end on my \'93 Renault Clio 1.8 16v before I sell it so it probably won\'t be anything major.

thats a good sized project you have taken on

white - famous for shedding its paint for unknown reasons - which is why you have flaking paint

where in the UK are you based - nice to see another FC though :D

Yeah I heard about the infamous white paint.. Has anyone had new repair paint flaking away? If so any idea how to stop?

I\'m in the South West, In Gloucestershire. Although I live in Coventry during the week. Any SW guys on here?

no idea to be honest

it was something to do with the undercoat i think on the white cars - you might need to take it back to metal , prime and then paint to make it stick

just been looking at the site - and there is a really nice FC on there

how much more is it from the sale price to get it into the UK ?

That looks like the stock insulation - You will find it in every nook and crannie IIRC :D

Ah, you\'ve also noticed the white coupe and the black convertible then?

Just a quick update;
Intercooler package came through the post today in one of the BIGGEST boxes I have ever seen, I thought they\'d sent me a corpse at first.

(http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/9775/1001669qg8.th.jpg) (http://img69.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1001669qg8.jpg)

A bit smaller than I expected but probably easier to install, as it looks like a near spot on fit for the intake on the front bumper. Might spend quite a bit of time chopping up piping though..

Does anyone know any good pictures/threads showing the routing of \'cooler piping?

thats is some serious amount of pipe work,   anything is better than the stock cooler,  that should be fine with the stock engine turbo, if you are going bigger turbo and high boost you may want to get bigger later on.  What diameter is the pipe work?,

2.5\' pipework, I\'m planning on running a T4 on low boost for daily driving (prob about 300hp), then for track/drag days the aim is 400rwhp (so about 430bhp ish) by knocking up the boost, using water injection and a suitable map.

I found one on ebay with the same specs as mine and they say its good up to 400hp and 30psi, Obviously I\'d like to have a margin for error but I\'m hoping the water injection will make up for what the intercooler lacks.

Otherwise, it\'s going to be up on ebay and I\'ll get a larger suitable replacement... Anyone want a brand new intercooler ideal for low lag street driving? :D

Well I\'m after that sort of power in my TII (setup - 1/2 bridge, GT4088, 1000cc injectors, Microtech....etc) and the Evo VI IC I had was deemed too small! not sure how that compares?

You won\'t need 30psi...Your engine won\'t wantit either!

2.5 inch pipe work that long will struggle to deliver 400 rwhp,   which is 490 FLWHP, in fact a turbo II engine will struggle to deliver that.

I use 3 inch inlet as do most bigger power, some even go to 4 inch.

Ant, why is the 13bT going to struggle to hit 400 atw if all the porting and ancillaries are right? Where is the weak link?

you would need big porting, big exhaust, big turbo plus all the rest of the ancilleries.  people always think that getting 400 rwhp is easy, it isnt and they dont last that long when you do get it.  Its a little easier with an RE or REW but you are already behind with the TII block due to the smaller ports and limited porting ability.   Your normal set up will struggle.  I have had 3 turbo 2\'s and all have been modified and i\'m still only up to 380 rwhp.   There are still only a handfull RX7\'s with over 400 rwhp in the UK.

Post by: sadgoth on March 15, 2007, 12:29:22 PM
so is there less available space for porting then?

My setup will be a larger 1/2 bridge than I\'m already running, big V-Mount, GT4088 and associated fueling mods. I\'d be interested to see what I can get out of the TII block

i\'m sure with that set up you will see 400+ atw\'s but thats no ordinary set up and has been 3 + in the making and very expensive compared to the value of the car.

You cant make the runners as big as you can with the newer engines.

That\'s what I was wondering about, so it\'s the runners that are the limiting factor then?

3 years and ..... let\'s not talk about cost eh?

anyway thread hijack over...

Very interesting...
Your opinion please on the forecasted setup;

Street ported 13BT
Rotary Aviation Single Piece seals
S4 Low compression rotors
High temp silicone Water Seals
Blitz BOV
SS Manifold
External Wastegate
T4 Turbo
Front Mount Intercooler (too small see above)
2.5\'\' Alum Piping (too small see above)
550cc Primaries (OE)
1600cc Secondaries (New)
Walbro 255
Water Injection
Saxo Power Steering Pump (for better FMIC routing)
6 Puck Clutch
HKS Mushroom Induction kit
Full 3\'\' Manifold Back Straight Thro Exhaust

To control/monitor it I\'m planning;
Greddy eManage Ultimate
Undecided Boost Controller (Any recommendations -from experience?)
LV-1 Wideband
Full set of gauges, AFR, Boost, Volt, Oil temp + Pressure, Water Temp.

My other options include a T70 or GT45 turbo.

What hp can I realistically expect?
What would be a reliable hp figure?
What would be the max hp figure for one-off drag runs etc?
