when i was born my dad bought a bigger car to take the family about in. it served us very well and remained a tough and reliable motor.

its a W reg so that makes it an 1980. its mettalic brown. we have owned it since brand new. its been "round the clock" and shows 20K. the car is a GLX (top of the range model) and i have some spares for it.

its of course rear wheel drive and it has been well looked after the interior is cream vynal and velour its actually in very good condition as we always used seat covers.  its not a rusty old shed its actually in pretty good condition. its got a little surface rust at the bottom of the doors but its nothing that couldnt be fixed. my dad says that it was absolutly solid underneath when we put it to bed.

When we stashed it, it had 12 months MOT. I recently looked through a parts catalog and there are still blueprint parts available for it.

we bought another car in 1995 and its been dry stored in a garage since. I had to move it a few years back and it started up after being stood 6years on the FIRST click (i did pour a bit of petrol down the carb). it was so quiet and ran without any lumpyness and there wasnt even any smoke. thats jap engineering for ya!

Im really looking for advice on what to do with it i guess. I want to see it on the road again maybe but i dont have the time or probably the skills to rotorise or V8 it. as far as im aware its not rusty underneath.

I havent got any pics of it just yet and i dont have full access to the garage and will have to organise a time to go take pics.  Do any of you old school fans fancy a project?

heres what it looks like.... i will get some actual pics taken some point this week.

p.s. sory if this is in the wrong section, i know it says old school mazdas but meh... its oldschool!

ok i went to the lock up today

i havent seen this car in a couple of years and it looks alright i suppose. its covered in dust..

The car has faired pretty well over time. Its a bit rusty in some places tho.

The passenger side outter sill needs a little work about half way down the car.

i reached under the car and gave the floor where it meets the sills - a bloody good tap with my fist and its solid.

on the two front doors the door skin has slightly come away but shouldnt be a ball ache

the rear arch is a little rusty but not as bad as most vauxhalls (lol)

you might notice theres a trim bit missing from the rear door - found it in the boot.

The interior still looks ok - but thats a bit dusty too so could do with a vac.

The strut tops and engine bay is perfectly fine

chrome looks like it will come up nice with a spit n polish

the rear tail gate looks good.

tyres need changing. (lol)

I cant find the log book or service history. the owners manual - have that still.

Didnt try to start it as i forgot to take my jump leads and wouldnt want to without at least changing the oil etc.

On a personal note

this might look like an old shed to some of you - this is the very car which took me from the hospital to home when i was born! I used to sit in the thing and wish i was big enough to drive. This is the first ever car that i drove as well.. (dont tell dad - I was only 12 *lol*) not many people can say that they still own a car thats the same age as they are! ahh the memories eh. :Typing
I think its got an old RX3/4/5 type of look about it - and it weighs in about 1300kg so would be fantastic with a rotor in there - LOADS of room!

ok enough typing -- here are some pics.

yea as i said on the phone theres no problem.

I was kinda reluctant to get rid.. i think that one day i should learn how to weld and then get it back on the road...

the welding required is something for someone who is pretty skillfull i suppose. I even have some sheet metal which could be used.

I seen a lot worser cars being restored on the tele - like on that show overhauling...  i can just imagine it on custom coilovers - s5 brakes and some nice rims all the rubbin strips removed - in a nice two tone black / silver...
