Hi guys, just wanted to find out any race stories from people?
My dads got a BMW E92 Coupe 335D, and reckons it would leave an RX7 for dead.......!
Anyone care to comment?
So I challenged him to a track day, for when I get my RX7 in the next few months hopefully! :D
a standard rex will just about out do a m3 hope. on the road let alone on the track. so tell him to stop being a muppet.
Your dad is dreaming buddy :D
hahahahahahhaahah :rollin
Cool, and one more thing, anyone near the Maidstone area who wouldn\'t mind showing me their RX? and have a chat about them?
cheers
Meanwhile in the REAL world...................................
Even with my fried gearbox, all he would see was my back end and flames when I changed up. It would be a distant view after the second change and his windscreen would be splattered with Pre-Mix. Ask anyone on here thats tried to follow me on a foot in convoy.:flamed

i can vouch for this :Grrr and i was tailing in my rx! smug hogness
Didnt someone admit to be being beaten by a BMW diesel on another thread last week? Think it was a 3.5cc twin turbo diesel that took him off the line and he only managed to real the bmw in at high speeds.Pretty sure it was andysmee?!?!
These new diesels are getting faster and faster! A mate of mine leant me his 330D 3 series and it was very impressive,ok not as fast as my rex,but still quick!
Only way you\'ll know for sure is if you race him! Oh and win!!!:)
I wouldn\'t be so hasty guys! A friend of mine has a 330D with a DMS remap, makes 450 ft-lbs of torque, 6 speed box and a very very flat torque curve, just an absolute surge of power!
Admittedly they carry more weight, so unless you\'re pushing 300+ ft-lbs I\'d say you\'d be in trouble! One could easily catch you snoozing ;)
However on a track my money would be on a REX everytime, less weight, better suspension setup... But then I\'d say a a Caterham superlight with a fraction of that power would eat most cars except if there\'s enough straights ;)
I\'ll be alright then ------- 340 ft/lbs.:spank
end of this month, next meet im shotgun! cant keep admiring from a distance mr hog getting jealous....
oh and mine is going to be very different too ;) lets just say im going to portsmouth and not to look at boats
The young lad has seen the light he is going to make a payment to the God of POWER.:wave
They\'ve got really powerful in those BMW diesels, 280bhp 0-60 in 6.2 secs (just checked geek website), I reckon that would give plenty of tired old standard rexs a run for there money, but wouldn\'t touch a good modded one. The M3/M5s are very fast though. M5 V10 500BHP anyone fancy ago (bar his hogness :-) ). They handle extremely well as well. I\'ve got a massive milage old 525i tourer and I can throw it round like any sports car. Back end out round corners, but completely balanced and almost impossible to lose it.

Ok I know a bit this BMW thing, As I have the 330D witha little chip upgrade. Puts it up to around 230 ish BHP. Ok we are also not talking top speed or corners here, But off the line, Most! standard gen 3 RX7\'s will not get past me on the quarter mile. High 13 seconds is about the average. As anyone who knows the rex will admit, 8 out of 10 standard 7\'s will not do much better than high 13 \'s or even into the 14\'s, But, I have to say, on a (DRY DAY) around a bend there is no contest, the rex will win! Now 335D is a even quicker, so fan of the rex I am, but a 335D BMW up against a standard gen3 REX, off the line to around the 100MPH straight line stuff, My money would be on the BMW, And 8 out of 10 runs the BMW would win.
I was only .2 behind a MR2 Turbo, Running around 13.8 (S) So don\'t be too ready to kick that 335D out as you my be supprised!:wave

more like a direct debit :WaveBye
My money would be on the beemer too. Standard RX7 against a 335d. I\'m well impressed with these diesel engines BMW are knocking out. The torque is huge.
I agree the beemer are great cars and wouldnt say there was much in it, i have both. But........ you all seem to be forgetting one thing........... can his dad DRIVE, if so he could toast him in a Transit Van...... Sebine did it to Clarkson! And the 3 series handles pretty well and definately inspires a lot more confidence than a rex.
If your new to the car and not had a lot of experience with RWd cars, coupled with the fact that the BM may be a company car and driven a lot more my money is definately with the BM. I am assuming that as your dad is young enough to want to race you, you are not that old.
The Coupe will be new, and his own car, it is the twin turbo, and putting out 286bhp and around 390 N/m torque.
He has had many cars over the years, the old Merc SL\'s, BMs etc, and does reckon hes he better driver than me (as more experienced)
I\'m not saying I am a better driver, but all I would want is to wait till the track day? I\'ve been drving since I was 8, and on the road for 3 years now (I know its not the same, but I\'m a much better motobike rider lol he changes gear way too early in a car too)
I\'m guessing as the cars are fairly well mattached power wise, it will be down to available power, and putting that power down to the road!??
How depressing is this thread....... were all saying a standard rex will be beeten by an oil burner:( something has got to be done about this!!!
But then most rex\'s are over 10 years old now!!!
Jono
I\'d say the beemer when compared to a standard FD as well. Bearing in mind some of our cars are up to 15 years old now and that unless they\'ve been taken care of really well they\'re not going to be as quick as they were new.
I raced one of those 535D\'s a few times in my Rex. They\'re quick for sure but they ain\'t sports car quick. I think they run about 240bhp and have great torque but compared to a 276bhp and half the weight Rex they have no chance. The onlyu thing that might get you temporarily is the turbo lag, but once they\'re kicked in you\'re away.
they may way 50% more than a Rex but they have 50% more torque and a little more HP than a stock RX.

Seriosuly? someone told me I had no chance against an M3! Better go find out for myself I think! :D

an m3 caught me out at the lights, i had 3 in my car (yes a passenger in the rear) all male, he had just his gf in his.
I thought he wasnt going to race , then he suddenly floored it and we were pritty much equal but he was slightly ahead, until he eased off for too early for the roundabout and i went past..
but yeah m3s arent too shabby
I had an M3 behind me and he floored it. By the time I noticed he was level with me. I floored it and he kept getting away until I hit full boost and I slowly started to reel him in and I mean slowly. We got to the next roundabout and the slip onto our private motorway. We both floored it out of the the roundabout and down the slip, by the time we got to the bottom of the slip in the outside lane. I was in front and joined the motorway about half a cart length in front.
A standard rex will slowly catch a brand new M3 (ive done it)
round the corners there isnt a huge amount in it either, but these are roundabouts - not circuits so theres a huge difference there.
Get a good launch on your dad and you can call him a spastic the rest of his life - however, be wary as some people say, the torque on it may pip you to the post in a short race, sit a rex at 5krpm in 2nd gear next to a BM diesel at 3krpm in second adn punch it, you will hand his arse to him - however, if he catches you snoozing in 3rd at 30 he\'ll tear you a new bottom probably!
M3 I hear...we destroyed one on the M62 back from Mascrat...flamed his azz...aint that right Jase ;)

Right, let\'s get one thing straight, before this turns into some urban myth...I didn\'t lose to the diesel and he had a rolling start as the lights changed and I was stationary. Having said that, my rex does the 1/4 in 13.5 so if what you say is right, the BMW is an embarrassingly good contender for my car.
Sad, but true. I only wish I hadn\'t posted it coz no-one else here would admit to it if it happened to them.
Now can we please not mention this again, and not on a third forum either :Grrr
i just left working for bmw, there over rated germen poo!
my rex mullered the whole range
and it didnt brake down (like the bmw\'s lol)
my dad just got a BMW e46 m3 with SMG box. will be going up agaistn the rex some day soon. i better bet him:3gears-lh
yeh well my dads better than your dad, if your not carefull ill get my grandad neh!
lol
