Title: Engine removal
Post by: johnf on March 04, 2007, 10:09:03 AM
Having lost a water seal I\'m looking at a rebuild. I\'m tempted to take this on, I quite fancy the challenge.

I have the videos which seem pretty good and detailed.

However they do start with the engine already out.
Is there a write up anywhere detailing any specific order that the surronding \'things\' should be taken off or do you just start with the obvious and keep going.

Would welcome any pointers, tips, from you guys that have done your own rebuilds, costs, problems etc.

As it appears to be a water seal I\'m hoping the housings will be OK.

John

there is a engine removal dvd bud, but to be honest its not great, was saying the other week that someone should make a reallt indepth engine removal/re-installation dvd, they`d make a fortune :D
Iv got the Bruce one, gives you a fair idear bud.. you start with the battery, air filter, pipe work ect.. pretty much you just disconnect every thing and lift out as a whole..

I think what most struggle with is releasing the clutch. There is a video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPCi4RpGQCU  As for the wiring you unplug at the ecu end and pull it through to the engine bay. You will need to remove the downpipe too from what i\'ve heard. I have never personally done a rebuild but this is just the kinda stuff that pops up the most when doing the rebuild.

just to correct that mate i managed to take mine out on my own without removing the DP, just needed a hoist, plus a bit of tilt on the rear, mine was not that difficult to get out and no problem with gearbox, only a problem putting it back!
I had planned to rebuild mine, but didn\'t in the end as i just couldn\'t put the time to doing it, so got the right guy to rebuild it for me, which i was able to watch, all new housings plates seals etc, it was urgent to get mine done, i bought it needing a rebuild, and i wanted to drive the thing ASAP! good luck John,
bob

My engine came out today, go it out with the downpipe on. Removed a lot of the ancillaries while it was still on the crane...now I just have to strip the bits I want polishing!
