Hi, picked up my rx7 3rd gen today from reworx and already havin problems, I drove all the way from portsmouth to leicester with now problems. Well nealy. I just got into leicester and pulled upto some traffic lights and noticed it was sounding like a V8.(Just like a 4pot engine that was missing. I have to rev above 3000rpm to get it moving smoothly otherwise it really struggles. The engine is still really smooth above 3500 rpm. Its just on idle and low revs. The rev counter does hunt it sits bang on 900rpm. The car still starts hot and cold. Any ideas?
cheers:xconfused
Hi mate,
If you have bought the car from reworx then i should just give them a call first thing monday morning. Im sure they will be happy to help and sort it out.
Regards Andy.
Sounds like the map sensor tube has come off, 30 sec job.
Look at engine bay right hand side behind the throttle body. Look for a vacum style tube thats come free and cable tie it back on. It makes the car sound as if you had killed it.
Give me a ring on 07771882430 and I will talk you through it if you can\'t find it. HTH.
map sensor is here
Sounds remarkably like it\'s running on one rotor (i.e. has lost a tip). Mine was fine above 3k rpm. Pulled fine, sounded normal, sounded like a rough V8 at idle.
Talk to re:worx. Hopefully you\'ll get them on a sympathetic day!

As Iain has said give the guys a call asap, if there is a local person with a bit of engine bay knowledge get them to have a look in the mean time, seeing as you purchased the car yesterday I would expect they will only be to happy to sort you out.
Nooooo. i really nope its not a tip!! would my fuel consumption drop as well??? I didnt get much time to look today as i promised to sort my girlfriend car 1st. Ive checked the map sensor everything seems fine.
I take it a compression test should show it up straight the way? Is there any1 that could help with this as ive only got a normal comp tester!!
cheers
speak to re:worx for advice...
syptoms of lost tip
fluttering boost gauge at idle
lumpy tickover
car shaking/vibrating
car will almost seem normal at 3000rpm just feel slightly rougher
near impossible to start when warm
give them a call as no way should u be having problems this early on in ownership
thats the thing its dead easy to start hot or cold, its take a couple of seconds.... is this possible??
Real sorry to hear your first day of ownership has gone bad,
Have a look here for some help compression testing as I would advise as others have that you need to test if you have lost any compression and then you can give RE Worx some info on the phone ,
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3813
Sorry to hear your news and I must say that when I lost a tip after the rebuild the symptoms where the same as yours but clearly you need a compression test carried out to find out for sure.
Some Mazda garages will do the test for around £60 and they will need to have an autocheck 4000 rotary engine compression tester (or similar or use Clives method) and all segements should not be lower than 6-7 kg/sq cm and be consistent.
If you drive it to a garage keep it off boost and drive gently.
Good luck.
Quote from: hairyhooverthats the thing its dead easy to start hot or cold, its take a couple of seconds.... is this possible??
Mine started hot or cold pretty much as normal. Idle was awful and it boosted fine above 3k rpm. Talk to Geff and get his take on the situation.
Reworx have offered to have a look at my car and do a comp test etc. To try and work out whats up. Problem is if it is something internal, 160mile isnt gonna do it much good.. :3Confused
Did you buy the car from them or someone else?
If you\'ve just bought it from re:worx then it\'s up to them to make it fit for purpose. If you bought it from some other company then you should take it up with them.
There\'s no way a car should have prolems so soon after buying it!
I bought it from reworx but they were selling it for some1 else but the log book as in reworx name
As Iain says,
If reworx supplied the car they should do what they can to help you, i hope this is the case as it should be.
Very sad to hear of your plight already as not something you should have to put up with so soon after purchase :3Confused
Lets hope its not a thrown tip and something more simple ?
Gurj
Ive just been over to see James Willday and swapped the map sensor... things seemed to have improved, he also explained that the street porting wont help things at low revs. Maybe its all in my head? i hope so...

Well James knows his stuff too so hopefully it isnt too bad, the map sensor was ok you say or damaged ??? make sure all wiring is secure and plugged in correctly as we sometimes jump to the wrong conclusions too quickly,
:D
This story has turned out very very bad! I have took it back to reworx and have confirmed that out of 6 tips 1 is in tack! This has all happened within 500 miles of ownership. They have offered a £250 discount count on labour! Looks my RX7 days are already over as i cant afford to rebuild so soon after spending £5500 on the car! CRY
Wow this is bad news. Wasn\'t there any warranty with the car when you bought it?
500 miles and one day and all you\'re being offered is £250, I\'d like to know more.
Can you give a fuller explanation of what the specialist said was the cause.
John
im sure that if a car is sold thru a garage you get XX days warranty regardless
might be worth having a search on the net for info
failing that "fit for the purpose" is a great one and if they are not happy to play ball - walk away and get the trading standards involved
so why is re-worx name still on docs if they selling it for someone else??
Take from the trading standards webite :D
this should help !!!
Q. I bought a used car six weeks ago and the dealership persuaded me to buy a twelve-month warranty. I thought that this would cover me for anything that went wrong during this period. The cambelt has just failed, and this has led to a very high repair bill. However, the warranty company have just pointed to a clause in the policy that excludes liability for cambelt failures, and they won\'t pay for the repair. What are my rights?
A. With any guarantee or warranty, you should never just assume the level of cover. It is essential that you read the terms and conditions at the time they are given to you, so that you can challenge any you don\'t like, or try to negotiate better cover. As it is, the warranty company is probably entitled to rely on this exclusion clause. Don\'t forget, however, that you still have a contract with the dealer or finance company who sold you the car. You might want to argue, under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) that this is an unreasonable fault to have developed so soon after purchase, and that the dealer is in breach of contract.
didnt even get home....
i am appauled.
not fit for purpose.
good luck.

Used Cars - consumer rights
The Law
When you buy goods from a trader, you enter into a legally binding contract governed by the Sale of Goods Act 1979, as amended by the Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994 and the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002. The law gives buyer and seller rights and responsibilities and applies to the sale of used cars in the same way as to other goods. When you buy from a trader, you have the right to expect the car to be:
of satisfactory quality;
fit for its purpose, including any particular purpose made known, and
as described.
The law defines goods as being of ‘satisfactory quality’ if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory – taking the description of the goods into account, the price (if relevant) and all other relevant circumstances. So, when you have bought a used car, you must consider its age, the price you paid, the description which was applied to it and anything else which is relevant when deciding whether it is of satisfactory quality. Your expectations should be different when you are buying a low mileage, two-year-old car than when you are buying a high mileage, ten-year-old one, for example. However, it must still be:
fit to be used on the road;
in a condition which reflects its age and price, and
reasonably reliable.
When you buy as a consumer from a motor trader, your legal rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 cannot be taken away or reduced. An example of an attempt to do so is a notice such as ‘sold as seen’. Such phrases are meaningless and cannot alter your rights. If you see a sign of this type, report it to Consumer Direct on 08454 040506. A warranty or guarantee can only be given in addition to your legal rights, not instead of them. You can take legal action under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 for up to six years after the date of the contract, but it is unrealistic to consider legal action for defects on used cars – especially older vehicles – once you have had them in use for a reasonable length of time. Each case is different, so it is best to take advice before you decide what to do.
Private sales
There are some situations where your legal rights will be reduced.
The general rule is ‘let the buyer beware’ when you buy from a private individual. It is up to you to find out whether the car is of satisfactory quality, to make your own checks on what you are told and to take responsibility for your choice, as the seller is not liable for the satisfactory quality of the vehicle. You are still entitled, however, to expect the car to be ‘as described’. If the advertisement says ‘2000 Ford Focus’ or ‘excellent condition’ then it should be exactly that. It is important to remember that it may be much more difficult for you to enforce your rights against a private individual.
Whether you buy privately or from a motor trader, you are entitled to expect that the car is roadworthy when you buy it, unless you and the seller clearly agree it is to be sold as scrap. You should take note that a car sold with an MOT Certificate does not necessarily mean that it is roadworthy.
You are also entitled to expect the seller to have ‘good title’ to the car. In other words, to be the owner or authorised by the owner to sell it. If you buy a car later found to be stolen, you have no legal right to keep it. You will have to try and get your money back from the seller.
The Consumer Credit Act 1974 gives ‘good title’ to the innocent private purchaser of a car which later turns out to be subject to a claim by a finance company because of a previous, unpaid hire-purchase agreement. This means that the finance company is not entitled to repossess the car from you. Remember, this does not apply to cars which have been stolen, or cars that were subject to a lease or hire agreement.
It is worth noting that some motor traders pretend to be private sellers to avoid their legal obligations to consumers. If you come across a situation like this, contact Consumer Direct on 08454 040506.
Internet sales
If you decide to buy a used car via the Internet, you have the same basic rights as you have when buying from a trader face-to-face. The Distance Selling Regulations may also give you additional protection because the contract you enter into is concluded at a distance and without personal contact. Check out the ‘Shopping at Home – Your guide to the Distance Selling Regulations’ consumer leaflet for more information.
If you decide to buy a used car privately over the Internet, your limited rights are the same as those you have buying from a private seller in other ways, such as via a classified advertisement.
Auctions
When you buy from a car auction, it is not considered to be a consumer sale, so your consumer rights can be, and usually are, greatly reduced. You will be bound by the auction’s written terms and conditions, which must be available to you before you buy. They may be posted on the wall, issued in a booklet or on other paperwork.
Internet auctions
Most Internet auctions only provide the site for the auctions to be held and, therefore, are not generally liable for the goods bought and sold. It is preferable to check the terms and conditions of the website for full details.
You have the same basic rights against a trader as you do with any other purchase, although auction sales are exempt from the Distance Selling Regulations. You should also take note that your statutory rights cannot be excluded when buying from a trader through an Internet auction
Remember, you have fewer rights against private sellers.
Credit
It is important to note that if you buy a car on hire-purchase, you have the protection of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 and the incorporated terms of the Supply of Goods (Implied Terms) Act 1973. The car should still be of satisfactory quality, fit for its purpose and as described but it is the finance company, as owner of the car, which is legally responsible to you as hirer. The normal rules on ‘acceptance’ i.e. loss of right to reject the car and seek refund, do not apply to hire-purchase or conditional sale agreements and, therefore, you may only lose your right to reject if you are aware of problems with the car but continue to use it.
Action to take
If you have bought a car from a trader, which turns out to be faulty or which you think has been misdescribed, you need to take action straight away.
The Sale of Goods Act 1979 states that, if you can show the goods to be faulty, not fit for their purpose or misdescribed, you have, for a short time after purchase, a right to reject them and get a refund of the purchase price. Therefore, if you have only had the car for a very short time, have only driven a few miles and you discover a major problem, you are probably entitled to reject it and get your money back plus the return of a ‘traded in’ car, if there was one, or its value if it has been disposed of.
If you decide to reject the car, stop using it at once, contact the trader to discuss the matter and make it clear that you wish to reject. Follow up this approach with a short letter explaining the nature of the complaint and confirming that you wish to reject and get your money back. Try to make an appointment to discuss the matter with someone responsible at the garage but, remember, if you wish to reject, it is important that you put it in writing as soon as possible. You can accept a repair for a major fault but this won’t stop you claiming a refund if the repair turns out to be unsatisfactory. It is best to make your position clear before any repair is attempted.
You should bear in mind that the law only allows consumers a short time to reject goods before, in the legal sense, they have ‘accepted’ them. This means that you have had the goods long enough to establish that they are satisfactory or that you have told the trader that you have accepted them. Only a court would be able to make a decision on this point but would take all relevant factors into account.
If the fault was present when you bought the car, you do have other remedies, even if you have left it too late to get a refund. You are entitled to seek a repair or replacement. These have to be carried out within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to you. If replacement or repair is not possible, then the law allows for the options of full or partial refund. Each case would be judged on its own merits.
The onus is normally on you rather than the trader to prove a claim, i.e. that the car is defective in some way. However, the law now states that if you are claiming replacement, repair, full or partial refund within the first six months of ownership, the onus is on the trader to prove that the goods were acceptable when they were sold. This is called the ‘reversed burden of proof’.
After six months, it is up to you to provide evidence to support your claim that the car was defective when it was sold, so you may need an independent report. If you need to pay for a report, which can be used in court, try to get the trader to agree beforehand that the report can be used as a basis for negotiations. Write to the trader to suggest this, so that you can show you have tried, but you should not let failure of the trader to agree or respond prevent you from getting an expert report when you need one.
Some points to note about accepting a repair:
If the repair will take a long time, you may also be able to claim compensation. For example, you may be able to claim for the cost of hiring a car or the trader may, of course, offer a loan car.
If the repair adds to the value of the car, the trader could have a case for asking you to make a contribution.
You may choose to use your rights under any warranty you were given with the car but, if you do, you must comply with all the terms of the warranty. Remember that you do not have to rely on the warranty, you can use your legal rights instead.
When you go to the garage to discuss your complaint, you may see the salesperson first. Take all the paperwork and be prepared to be patient, clear and firm and take someone with you if possible. You may have to go through the complaint several times and you may need to speak to someone more senior if the matter cannot be resolved. Make it clear which of the remedies described above you are seeking. If you are entitled to a refund and this is what you want, be persistent. However, most car faults can be repaired and, in cases of genuine faults, the trader is likely to offer repair. Try to get specific details as to what the diagnosis is and what it to be done. Get this in writing if you can.
If you and the trader cannot reach an agreement as to the solution to the problem, you should write letters to the trader and finance company, if there is one, keep a copy for yourself and send a copy to the head office. It is usually best to send letters by recorded delivery.
If the repair fails to rectify the fault, inform the relevant person and, again, try to agree an acceptable course of action. This is where a second opinion or a good technical report is useful, so that you are in a stronger legal position. Keep the finance company involved, if there is one. If the trader offers something but it is not what you want, don’t be rushed into a decision. Take time to think about the offer – you can accept or negotiate for a better offer. Only you can decide what to do.
If you have to have repairs carried out elsewhere, you should make sure the trader knows you are going to do so beforehand to give him an opportunity to resolve the matter. You should ask the repairer to write you a report on what was wrong with the car, providing full written details of the work carried out and the cost. It is best to keep all defective parts which have been replaced. You can then sue the trader/finance company for the cost of repair, secure in the knowledge that you have proof of what was done and how much it cost. You may need to prove that, on the balance of probabilities, you were sold a car which was not of ‘satisfactory quality’.
If negotiations fail, you could consider using an alternative dispute resolution scheme. Check to see if the trader is a member of a trade association which has such a scheme.
As a last resort, you may need to consider taking court action. You should write and notify the trader and finance company, if there is one, of your intentions. Most claims up to £5000 can be settled using the small claims procedure in the County Court and you can obtain further information from your local County Court or online at Her Majesty’s Court Service website.
If you bought your car from a trader online, and things have gone wrong, check the website from which you bought the car for details of how to report a complaint. Report your complaint as soon as possible, preferably in writing. Follow the advice given above and remember that you may have additional rights under the Distance Selling Regulations. If the car is faulty or misdescribed, and you want to reject it soon after purchase, the trader should arrange the collection at his/her own expense. You may, however, be prepared to negotiate on a replacement car or to have your car repaired. The trader may agree, if they trade some distance away, to have repairs done locally at his/her expense.
If you bought your car via an Internet auction, check the website to see if they run a dispute resolution scheme, which may help you.
Remember, used cars may have some faults, but they should not be excessive. Fair wear and tear is not considered to be a fault.
Points to note
Mileage
If you are buying from a trader, look to see if there is a disclaimer stating that the mileage is not guaranteed and so cannot be relied on. It should be ‘bold, precise and compelling’ and effectively brought to your attention. If there is no disclaimer, it could be argued that the trader is stating that the mileage is correct and you can rely on it. It then becomes part of the contract and of the description of the vehicle. It can be difficult to prove a car has been ‘clocked’, so the golden rule is to walk away if you are not satisfied. There are organisations which will provide you with information on a car for a fee – check online for details. If you have bought a car which you believe has been clocked, contact Consumer Direct on 08454 040506.
MOTs
A MOT certificate simply confirms that the car passed the test on the day it was submitted. It only covers the specific tests required and does not provide an absolute guarantee of the general quality of the car. If you have a problem with an MOT, contact the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), which enforces the law relating to these tests.
Insurance claims, accident and repair records
There is no law requiring traders to inform purchasers that cars have been subject to insurance claims or have been ‘written off’ by insurance companies. Traders have no legal obligation to tell purchasers about past repair work. If you ask the trader about these matters, he must answer truthfully or tell you if he doesn’t know.
This leaflet is not an authoritative interpretation of the law and is intended only for guidance. For further information, visit the Consumer Direct website or telephone 08454 040506.

nope... there wasnt any warrenty. They said the car was being sold on behalf of a customer. They couldnt give me a reason for it it blowing. They just did a compression test and told me the results.
I took the car to hurleys for a comp test a couple of weeks after i suspected it to be blown(the day i brought it) who confirmed my tips had gone.
When reworx looked at the leads to remove them the 1st thing they said is that the leads wernt on properly(and blamed hurleys for this). The car ran the same when i left there as when i went in. Then this seemed to be there main reason behind the engine blowing not being about to help me any more.
To be honest i believe they had thought this through before i had even turned up, as i had spoken to them on the phone and let them know of Hurleys findings.
The other thing that wasnt to great about my experiance with reworx is that Jeff dissapeared when Chris started looking at my car and when i asked when he would return i was told about 1/2hrs! Then was i asked himn to call me on is return i was told i had to call them because they were to busy.
Overall i feel pretty ripped off!!! :2Mad

but im still confused about the docs situation.
when we buy a car we change it into garage`s name right away
we never sell cars for customers as u get the come back not the customer as they see it as you sold the car so its your fault.
dont want to talk out of turn on anything but i would def check into this pretty well
The car was in the private owners name, when i brought it. I handed over the cash to reworx who i guess passed it on. pm me if you have any info legal info on this.
cheers
i thought u said the docs were in re-worxs name??
QuoteThey just did a compression test and told me the results.
Wouldnt this of found the faulty tips.
Get in touch with the owner, you are still covered , he cant sell faulty products. take him to small claims court :)

If reworx did a compression test before you took the car they would have known it to be sub-standard and should have warned you about it.
Small claims court is the route if all else fails, dont except their £250 as otherwise you have accepted their offer and thats that !!
Sounds dodgy though you probably should not have bought it in the first place to be honest mate, i know that dont help you right now but ReWorx sold you the car - they are responsible !! :Nono!
Re-worx sold you the car, and they trying to get out of it, by saying they are selling it for someone else, Oldest car dealer trick in the book,
p.s Just my opinion, :)

doesnt matter what the compression test said, if it detonates cos the boost is wound up too high its gonna pop.
a comp test can show 5\'s but it may still last for ages, just cos its shows 8s, doesnt mean it wont pop.
The guy who bought a car from a guy in scotland who was on here picked it up from pips where it was comp tested and it blew on the way home, that wasnt down to pip.
Sorry your RX7 has turned out to be such a nightmare Hairy, especially after purchasing it from a reputable specialist like RE WORX, i am very dissapointed to read of their responce to the situation you have found yourself in! after all they have a reputation to think of, they sold you the car! as said above do not accept 250, that would not even cover the hassle you have had as a result of the car not being \'fit for purpose\' do keep us all posted as to what\'s happening, this could be an illuminating thread for all us rotary owners. and helps enormously for anyone needing work done,as to who to trust with thier pride and joy, Small Claims Court would seem the only way mate, hope you stick with a RX They are worth it when they are 100%
Good luck.

Very True mate,
But even so ReWorx\'s assistance is not very good ?? Why would they even offer £250 if theres nothing they can do ??
Just a shame a new owner is facing these issues already esp after buying from a "decent" tuner ??
It all seems to beg the question
WHY?
Why were Reworx involved at all?
Why Didn\'t the guy sell the car himself, mmm did he know something?
Why would Reworx risk their reputation if, as turns out, there are problems?
Did Reworx sell it as a favour, or did they take commission, that could make them more involved than they seem to want to be.
All seems to stink to me, [my opinion on the details given]

I suspect that, having failed so soon after you drove it away that you have come back on the original seller. Citizens advise shoudl be able to let you know.
Sounds like there is more to this than being said, cant believe ANY builder / dealer would act this way????????????????? same old same old - one side of the story being told, my opinion fwiw always best to try and resolve before going public seems there is quite a bit that could be done before getting to this point.
Kind sirs, you are all a bit hasty with the sharp knifes I think  ...Scenario: Person asks REWORX to sell car as they come into contact with a lot of prospective buyers.REWORX says.....no problem,we will do you the favour........A.N.Other comes along and buys the car \'as is\',drives away and car breaks down.A.N.Other phones REWORX and asks for help.....REWORX think "what the hell have we got ourselves into now"?,they feel sorry for A.N.Other (as he has pleaded poverty) and offer to help by discounting labour to get the bussiness as any other vendor would.
A lapse of time has occurred (2 months) and many others have given advice and dabbled with said car.......no joy,...so hence, lets get the big whipping stick out and go after the vendor WHO SOLD THE CAR ON BEHALF OF SOMEBODY...................it should read LETS GET THE BIG STICK OUT AND GO AFTER THE PRIVATE PERSON WHO SOLD ME THE CAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I read the facts differrant to you all sirs,as I am totally unbiased and dislike to see this \'witch hunt\' attitude of some on this forum. If I buy an FD,drive it home and it breaks,I will park it,shrug my shoulders and say " it has been thrashed all its life as it is a sport car,so let me get on with fixing it"........:cheers :guinness .....BUT hey,that\'s me !!!!!!
When you bought the car did you give the money directly to ReWorx or the owner in the log book?
oldone you are a wise worded fellow.
i feel for you dude, having an engine pop is hurtful,
but as oldone has said. its a thrashed sports car. these do pop just unfortunate timing for you imo.
hope you keep the fd. save my friend and take it to carl for a rebuild and you`ll be a rotary fan for life. and have a drink for the sorrow in the mean time.
good luck

I agree with everything you\'ve said up to the last line..
[Remembering that a lot of people don\'t have the time, facilities, tools, knowledge, money and desire to \'just\' rebuild a car..]
If you pay the price for a healthy car that should provide you with a (to use the words of the trading act) \'reasonable\' amount of driving time before major malfunction, then that\'s what you should get. If on the other hand you spend say £2000-3000 for an fd with a damaged engine/high mileage, you understand that you will have to take the time and money you put aside to fix it.
How much do you have to pay before you don\'t just shrug your shoulders and say \'its a sports car\'?
well take the car back and ask for your money back, simple as that. Under the sale of goods act you have a reasonable time to return products that are faulty or unfit for purpose which this car clearly is. I do think you need to get sound legal advice and exactly what your rights are but a demand for a refund is the 1st option. 2nd option is a repaired car free of charge and then unfortunately you then enter the realms of legal action. The owner is responsible for the car who sold it to you in the first place and therefore has to answer your questions. ReWorks are maybe just a 3rd party, the middle man in all of this but they still can not sell the car knowing it to be faulty.
But on the other hand there is always the possibility that it just went pop, bad luck and unfortunate timing that does happen from time to time. too much right foot, too much boost, new car lets see what it does !! not blaming you but you do need legal advice. wish you all the luck and hope you get a good outcome.
Firstly it should be established whether it was a private sale or a sale by a dealer - your legal rights are quite different. If a private sale then there is little comeback if a fault develops after you have purchased the car, if from a dealer then there is a much stronger case for them to rectify a fault at their own expense. I would contact trading standards and explain how the purchase was made and take guidance from them as to whether it is viewed as a private or dealer sale.
Hope that helps
Kevin
Another thing i noticed last night. The ebay advert(280082278347) is being hosted by somebody called Tom, they have a link to a trader website. However the person on the log book is somebody called steve. Its all very confusing!!
I have just spoken to tom who put the car on ebay who works for a dealship. It turns out that tom agreed to advertise the car and take phone calls about the car for a discount on a engine build.
This begs the question....why would reworx be interested in giving away a rebuild for a car which they wernt making any money on.
well i have had 2 reworx engine builds and neither has lasted in 3 years my car has covered about 2500 miles tops and had 2 builds and all work /upgrades done by them and my recent rebuild had all the compression of a wet fart..and this story sucks are we to believe re worx were selling the car as a favour out of the goodness of their heart with no financial interest:Nono!
also that ebay ad states that he is advertising the car on behalf of reworx

GULP!:eek
My god!
What were there reasons for the engine failure.
1st one inconclusive lost 2 tips 2nd one rebuilt and exceptionally bad compression from the start wldnt let them near my car again with a barge pole
your not the first and i doubt u will be the last unhappy with their service see the post from newera about their experience
Quote from: one2watchalso that ebay ad states that he is advertising the car on behalf of reworx
Much as one should be wary of jumping to concusions the words \'slippery\' and \'eel\' come to mind...
I have called ciz advice who are referring it to trading standards.... I called Reworx again thismorning advising them of the action i am taking.. giving them a chance to think about it, but they wernt interested.

unfortunalty i havent got the money now for some time.. as i spent my money on what i thought was a safe bet. So i might have to have a bash my self!
hairyhoover, its not too difficult, you can get videos/ dvds that help you rebuild.
to my mind, its the best way forward for you.
note the ebay ad states recent service and rebuild by specialist re-worx which will lead to a longer life than cars with half its mileage..specialist what, draw your own conclusions there are plenty of us out there that have had this specialist care applied to our cars and are now sorry
Quote from: hairyhooverunfortunalty i havent got the money now for some time.. as i spent my money on what i thought was a safe bet. So i might have to have a bash my self!
I really feel for you, I had a similar thing whereby the seals went very soon after buying and it was months before I could afford the rebuild. It\'ll all get sorted in the end mate one way or the other, a real disappointment that your first experience with the FD has been like this.
After reading the newera story its jsut a bit off.
They seemed to have been selling this for a long time advertising it as a Cheap sngle even when they advertised on this site.
I remember the thread and Dragon made a comment about the price of the car for what it was.
When one person has a bad experience i spose it could be just bad luck but when you constantly read about problems liek this and Re worx havent even bothered to reply to the newera post.
Really sorry for you mate. I would have thought buying a car from a place like reworx would mean a little peace of mind then you get whacked with this selling it for someone else ********.
damn shame

Although i\'m no expert wouldn\'t mind popping down to give you a hand when i can if you try to rebuild it yourself mate, would be a first for me too but if theres no other way a extra pair of hands i can offer ??
Gurj
Derby :cheers
good offer and you should that up, you wont need a ramp, as Gurjy boy is big enough to just pick the car up for engine removal,
Gurj the human craine LOL
Hi thanks for the offer much . I have just received a phone call from Trading standard offering a fair amount of advice! they believe i should either be getting a refund or a direct replacement!! The fact that reworx didn’t own the car make my case stronger apparently! Something to do with them being an \'agent\' so i am just typing up a letter now. For them to officially respond to.
I will pursue this 1st, but if i don’t have any luck i will let you know! Cheers again!!
Quote from: oldoneKind sirs, you are all a bit hasty with the sharp knifes I think  ...Scenario: Person asks REWORX to sell car as they come into contact with a lot of prospective buyers.REWORX says.....no problem,we will do you the favour........A.N.Other comes along and buys the car \'as is\',drives away and car breaks down.A.N.Other phones REWORX and asks for help.....REWORX think "what the hell have we got ourselves into now"?,they feel sorry for A.N.Other (as he has pleaded poverty) and offer to help by discounting labour to get the bussiness as any other vendor would.
I kind of agree with you and kind of don\'t.
1. The advert on E-bay clearly says he is selling it on behalf of Re:Worx
"For this particular auction I have teamed up with RE-WORX, (who incidentally look after my own RX-7) to sell this car on their behalf."
money was handed over to RE:Worx so they must have a degree of responsibility. Either as an agent or as the seller. If you buy from a dealer then the vehicle must be fit for purpose and it seems the buyer can\'t get to the bottom of who was selling. It should all be very transparent, not a paper trail. Sold by Tom on behalf of RE:Worx with a guy called Steve on the log book. There has to be some accountability and as RE:Worx advertised and took money for the car and no one else seems to be traceable the buck has to stop with them.
Re:Worx have taken a bit of a beating on this forum of late, with New Eras comments and this but have declined to give their side of the story anywhere. Whether they know of this thread or not is debatable, I bet they do, but they sure as hell know about the New Era one and have so far declined to make comment, even just to say they can\'t comment for legal reasons or whatever.
I would have thought, that within this tight knit community they would take the opportunity to comment and put their side of the story, as there are two sides to every story but their unwillingness to do so reflects badly upon them.
Come on Re:worx, defend your rep within this community, its the core of your business and I\'m sure everyone is open minded enough to listen to what you have to say, your silence just damages your reputation more.
the point is when i was talking to another digruntled customer he was told post what u want i have enough customers i dont care what you write.and this kind of sums it up ime afraid.they do have a loyal following of happy customers but as in all things its not doing something wrong its how u rectify those situations
in my situ i wouldnt let them near my car ever again after spending lots of money there and having 2engines that have only lasted a total of about 3000 miles and other slapdash work done
newera are a big company with an excellent rep and wouldnt have posted their experiences lightly
my water injection pump was fixed in my rear bins and on checking one day i found a puddle because the threaded conection at the pump wasnt done up
the feed from the boot had a kink that slowed the water even more
after my engine rebuild i wasnt getting any boost
this was because there was a 3inch split in the pipe leading to the wastegate
and my exhast downpipe was blowing/fine when it went in
my engine rebuild showed compression of i think it was 6.5 front rotor and just under 5 for the rear and i mentioned about the bad starting but it wasnt till i gave the car to carl did he check the compression and advise me
you would think a rotary expert like re worx wld think mmm bad starting when warm lets check the compression
paid for a innovate wideband gge and sensor to be fitted and was told it was faulty.sent it for testing it was fine and despite me a novice telling them to make sure the supplied termination plug wld need to be fitted for the gge to work they said yes all fitted but still not working.when i went to pick car up and i said why isnt the termination plug fitted blank look blank look and no sign of the plug(i personally checked the box before leaving it there)
after having a clutch fitted again wastegate to manifold pipe left off so was told just connect it to any vac source..found a vac surce that unknown to me was one way and car boosted to 1.5bar due no wastegate control.again exuse was pipe must have blown off on way home(car was negative boost all way home due new clutch)
need i go on
have gone to carl hayward as his reputation is unblemished and he stands by his work and offers warrantee even against det
if you have a problem he will sort it out not fob you off
Oh dear oh dear, same story same people creating myths and ledgands, how come it takes over 2 months and a fair number of miles for all these \'tips\' to let go, anyone checked the condition of the ancillaries, what was the \'condition of sale\'?
Same old witch hunt as far as I can see, seems engine builders are responsable for the condition of everything else, who\'s to say the car has not run on ordinary unleaded? whos to say the boost has not been wound up???
These posts are far to common on this forum, anyone else in the engine building industry want to try thier luck? A thankless task as I see it, all you will do is drive the tuners away from here, have a look at how many have stopped advertising in the last 6 months all you will end up with are people only interested telling how how bad thier experiences have been with nothing positive to help the newbeeys.
On the subject of Newera\'s sticky, as I see it Miguel was a 3rd party at the point of sale, the guy that paid for the import never saw the car, the new owner bought it off the internet and collected the car from Portsmouth, where I personaly saw the car the day before collection and it was a stunner, what happened after that is anyones guess?
Responsable admin would have locked this thread untill the parties involved had a chance to resolve the issues raised, instead everyone goes off half cocked bashing the builder, in my eyes it sucks.

The engine went on the way home. Not 2 months later. And i have done about 700 miles 300 of them traveling to and from reworx. I brought the car on a saturday and by the time i got home the work shop and shut so i called them 1st thing monday. I used shell vpower on the day of pick up and did not turn up the boost.
That may have sounded snappy ...sorry... just watching tv at the same time.. just wanted to clear that up.
Kind sirs,......I only replied to the information on the posts and the way this thread was started, and the way it is going.I learnt a valuable lesson in replying to posts hastily. So I ask for restrain and let this thread not become a slagging, beat REWORX to death thread.
I have no affiliation to REWORX,REWORX has not built or worked on any of my cars etc etc.......I am friendly with all on the forum (might be the few exceptions),I am friendly with all advertisers whom I have met and will endevour to meet more of them as time goes on.

I agree with that bit at least
Sorry John I don\'t see it as any kind of \'Same old witch\'
The guy came on here asking this community for opinions, what should MRC do - tell him to go away or let him hear thevaried responses listed on this thread.
It\'s open to all - that includes the tuner as well.
If they choose to disregard this, thats their right.
As yet I see nothing on here other than some poor guy trying to get help.
So you\'ll know if the newera engine in question was swapped then John?
john the guy didnt even make it home from picking the car up got to admit anyone wld be a bit ****ed off at that point and then offered 250.00 pounds off a rebuild that a kick in the nuts
i know u are a good friend and supporter of re worx thats fine as you have good experiences from there
but what about the rest of us that have not
newera are not some fly by night importer and are responsible for a huge no of the cars in this country so for them to post it must have taken a lot
others have had this same issue and been dismissed with some story or another
and the reason for advertisers withdrawing is more to do with costs
most are well known now and feel they dont need to advertise except carl who advertises not really for work but to support this club
he could easilly get by with word of mouth and i dont remember seeing anyone posting about bad experiences with hayward rotary
what happened with my car is fact not fiction
built and maintained since before my ownership never abused and never run more than 1.1bar with full supporting mods fitted at re-worx
i allways found geff very helpfull but when u have spent a lot of money on your car u expect it to at least longer than 6 months
a correctly rebuilt car should have no reason to have problems for at least 30-40000 miles
if u have a monster power car then fine life expectancy is less but 1-1.1 bar is not is excessive boost territory

John understand what you are saying but ReWoex have had time to answer both threads and have not bothered ??
Anyones guess why tbh, they might not think its worth answering or haven\'t seen the threads or simply dont have an answer ??
If the engine was rebuild by ReWorx and it failed then surely they should have a look to see what the issue was ?
The ebay ad read as follows:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
ALTHOUGH THIS VEHICLE IS SOLD BY TRADE PROFESSIONALS, IT WILL NOT CARRY A WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
A rare opportunity indeed,
Not really requiring an introduction, this is a fine example of Mazdas rotary supercar, a 1992 mazda rx7 touring x model, including a full leather interior with electric tilt and slide sunroof.
The car has been modified to produce a reliable and very respectable 300 rear wheel horse power, but, definetly more importantly, it has been maintained by RX7 specialists throughout its time in the UK. RX motors and RE-WORX are specialists in RX-7 Care and modification, and this lucky car has been close friends to both.
Although the car may have a higher mileage than others of a similar age, this Touring X is in superb condition for its age, a mature owner coupled with a recent service and rebuild by RE-WORX will almost guarantee this car will outlast models with less than than half the mileage, trust me, I know from experience!
Below is some of the work that has been carried out:
T61 single turbo on custom manifold
3" exhaust with Feed back Box
Custom Front mount intercooler and Radiator setup
Mild ported engine by RE-WORX
uprated injectors and fuel pump
Koni dampers on lowered springs
18" wheels
Making 300rwhp, dyno sheet provided
rebuilt 18 months ago by RE-WORX, only 10000miles on engine
just serviced etc long mot and taxed
I thoroughly recommend a viewing and test drive to fully appreciate the performance this car has to offer. Whereas many RX7\'s are advertised with wildly over exaggerated BHP figures, this car with a dyno proven 300rwhp will live up to all your expectations and beyond.
I\'m well known on Ebay for selling well described good value cars, and would invite you to check my feedback and previous auctions. For this particular auction I have teamed up with RE-WORX, (who incidentally look after my own RX-7) to sell this car on their behalf. We both hope that we can give the potential buyers of this car the confidence to make a serious bid. We are both professionals and treat every ebay auction as seriously as any other transaction.
The car is currently loctated at the RE-WORX workshops for both inspection and test drives.
call 02392 698100 or visit //www.reworx.com to see the kind of quality you\'ll be dealing with.
I can also be contacted to answer any questions about RX-7 ownership or anything else about this car on 0779 3824396
Im also reachable at work on t.ogden@clarioncars.co.uk or via my website //www.clarioncars.co.uk (9am-6pm)
This vehicle is also advertised ouside of this auction, and I have the right to remove it without prior notice and cancel any bids.
A paypal deposit will be required by the auction winner of 10% of the winning total on ending, the balance must then be payed and collection made within 14 days
Happy Bidding
UPDATE TO BIDDERS
I will be unable to answer any emails from the 14/2 to 16/2 but will be reachable on my mobile, any emails sent will be replied to on the 17/2 when i\'m back in the office
Thanks
Tom

Sounds a great ad and look what he got instead ??
For once, I find myself in agreement with John :eek
ReWorx, like most any other decent company have many many happy customers and a few unhappy ones. Thats life, you can\'t please all the people all the time.
Especially with something as complicated as vehicle repair and maintenance, it\'s just never going to be straightfroward, I understand cars and I understand this fact. Many do not.
Sadly the unhappy ones will always shout the loudest and their situations will be remembered by all.
I feel a post or two from ReWorx to clarify the situation would be of GREAT benefit to their image within this community.
The "Right to remain silent" approach just sends all the wrong signals.
Seems all the flies are around the jam pot now.......:guinness This is going to get exciting in a mo.......
Yeh... lets not start this off please!!! I just wanted advise of the best way of approaching it.
to be questioned myself or for reworx to be slated. I just want to to disscus this situation is isolation.
Lets try to get this back on topic - as above the guy is seeking advice as from now.
Not who did what to whom but what options are left open to him NOW.
So lets stop the bashing and try to offer help.

the talk of locking threads is all wrong if someone recieves bad goods or services they are entitled to post it up and this poor guy has tried to sort it out amicably and been offered a paltry 250.00 labour discount as a further slap in the face
there has been a lot of slithering on this one with re-worx/orig owner and the ebay seller all saying sorry nothing to do with me and leaving him with a duff motor..this sucks bad
did i not hear or read somewhere that with a normal compression tester that "bit you screw in place of the sparkplug"-dont know proper name! is too long and protrudes into the engine too far or something?
Lets keep this on track please Guys. Hairy don\'t worry you asked for advise its not your fault if a few want to join in. So the rest of you please advise to hairy only!
John whilst its gone of track as per usual there is no reason that i can see to close or censor the thread at the moment whilst ever people keep civil. We\'ll only be accused of pandering to advertisers or ex advertisers as usual if we do. What i would say is if you\'ve a grudge or praise about any company then start your own thread and keep this one on track please.

i spoke to reworx about this ... and they said the only way you can use a piston engine comp testers is if you remove the one way valve in the gauge but then the needle doesnt hold, so you have to keep a close eye on the needle. I have never tried it though.
Mr RX Veilside,
I dont think we have met, reading this thread, you seem to be using it to grind your own axe, not very productive to this guys cause, I could expound my experiences with quite a number of tuners on this site, I chose not to maybe you should do the same.
I go back to my original suggestion, speek to those involved, if you have just cause after talking with parties involved THEN post your findings, all you are doing now is stoking the flames.

If you were in REworx\'s [or any other vendor that is associated with this forum] that had an ongoing dispute with ANY of you guys would you be hanging out your dirty laundry???????
No vendor in thier right mind would put themselves in this position willingly, and I can fully understand why they refuse to answer onesided accusations, I have no need to defend REworx, I have no affiliation to them, I have my own opinions and I feel a fair sence of justice, but, sorry this is just a witch hunt, If it helps mail me mr hoover and I will try and mediate.

Fair comments John no probs, thats why i said perhaps ReWorx have seen the thread and simply dont wanna reply. :King
sorry if I\'m taking this more off here but here goes anyhow.
John, earlier I said I agreed with you and thought this thread should be locked and dealt with without everyone shoving their penny\'s worth in and I agree, however there needs to be a space where people can air their views and experiences with tuners and this is as good as any. To say that peple should not expound their experiences with tuners / engineers is just as unproductive as everyone jumping on the bandwagon.
RX7 Veilside, if you have a problem with RE:Worx that you cannot resolve with them you should dtart a thread and in an objective and calm way put your side of the story and give RE:Worx the chance to put theirs, if they choose not to respond that is their prerogative, at least you will have done what you feel is right. You shouldn\' however use this guys experience as a forum to get people together to gang up on RE:Worx, offer advice and help but don\'t try and rtound up a posse.
Finally John, you say you understand why RE:Worx refuse to answer onesided accusations, they will only be one sided as long as RE:Worx refuse to add their input, then it will be two sided and people can get a more balanced view.
I can\'t help but feel their refusal to comment or get involved does them more harm than good and is damaging to their business. However I fully accept it is their business and their right to choose to do whatever they wish.
not rounding up a posse just understand this guys frustration
i have had bad work done there and dont like to see others recive the same
and am only serving to highlight my personal experiences and then people can feel free to judge for themselves whether they agree or disagree
thats the nature of a forum differing opinion why is it as soon as someone disagrees on here the shout goes up to lock the thread or for people to keep quiet
i as a member have every right to post and reply to threads if another member doesnt like it that is their right as well
i support hairyhoover 100% in this as he has been shabilly treated and merely sought to highlight that he is not an isolated case
and if any non member doesnt like my posts then they can swivel or pay their fees and voice their opinion
fair enough, I\'m gonna duck out anyhow because I don\'t want to cause friction here, in fact quite the opposite.
The only thing I\'ll say is that you only have his word that he\'s been treated shabbily and he could well have been but the truth is none of us except him and RE:Worx know the whole story, thats why I won\'t jump on anyones bandwagon.
Hairyhoover, I wish you all the best mate and I really hope you get this resolved to your satisfaction. If you make an official complaint the most important thing you can do is have an accurate record of what you said and paid to whom when. This will aid your case no end, the quicker you complained and the more you communicated with the supplier of the car the stronger case you will have. If in the end a registered car dealer supplied you with a car not fit for purpose then justice, I\'m sure, will be done.
One thing i find strange is most of the people posting about the workings of rotary engines and how long it should last, how recently it was rebuilt, the standard of rebuild, why it dies etc etc have no idea how they work!
I know i will probably get flamed for saying this but if your engine is built, it starts, runs, holds water/oil, doesnt over heat and new parts have been used, (which there is no complaint of that not being the case) then thats about it. They are very basic engines............... unfortunately its everything else that causes the engine to die. They are sensitive to fueling, water & oil temps, if its got good compression when it leaves the engine builder there is little they could have done to stop it losing compression for some other reason, and the same goes for detonation.
An engine wont det on its own, its caused by one of the ancilleries. Look how many brand new engines have blown on the rollers or within a few thousand miles!

Think I will leave it there, dont need the agro, mr hoover the offer still stands.

From what I\'ve read recently companies have been prosecuted for even writing this kind of attempted get-out.

I very nearly did.
I had looked at one before which was on standard twins which was OK, but past its best. Then i started thinking about what i wanted. I had originally thought of finding a really nice original and modding it. But i would only use it for spirited weekend driving, trackdays and going to the \'ring etc so i would need to heavily modify whatever i got; it would be a shame to do that to a nice original - i needed someone else\'s nicely modified one. I wanted a track car that i could use on the road.
With the cost of a single-turbo conversion running high already it made sense for me to get one that had already had the work done. I saw that one, drove it, but was unimpressed with the fact it hadn\'t seen a sponge in months. I did like it, and it made good power, but it wasn\'t fantastic and i did make th point that had someone bothered to clean it then it would have been much more impressive. it was that close!
Still, it was the best i\'d seen that would suit me. I spent a lot of time there with Geff who was really helpful and talked through all the options. We sat down and priced up coilovers, half-cage, harnesses, a big brake kit, etc etc and got up to my budget of around 10-11k. I then left with all that info on a sheet of paper and said i would definitely be in touch but i had to think about it. This was saturday afternoon.
I know what i am like, always in a hurry, always buy the first one....so i had promised myself that with RX-7s i would slow down and take my time and not get all excited and throw myself into the first good one i saw. That saved me, because a few years ago i would have just said yes after we\'d put all that effort in.
The next day i saw this: http://www.neweraimports.com/soldcarDetails.jsp?carId=291 (http://www.neweraimports.com/soldcarDetails.jsp?carId=291)
Everything i wanted, done better than i could have done it myself. The phone number was wrong so I mailed him, mailed newera, mailed newera japan, called newera UK on the phone;i went mad until i got hold of the guy and the next week i drove to Coventry with £12000 in 50s in my pocket, and drove it home. It was as good in real life as it looked in that advert. It beat the hell out of everything i had seen.
How lucky was i to have found it? Another week and i\'d have bought your one. I really feel for you mate, it could very easily have been me.
I will say; it was made clear to me by Re:Worx that it wasn\'t their car and that they were selling it for someone. I do think you are after the wrong person; the original seller is liable if it blew on the way home; \'not fit for purpose\'. Just my two cents.

just to make things more confusing i almost bought yours! i wanted it bigtime but suprisingly i bought mine owned it for a few months at least before you bought it which was wierd, i could tell that it was alot of money for the market but i have alot of respect for newera.
saw it in person at north wield too!! just didnt get a chance to chat, very sorted car. just unfortunate for hairy to be in this mess!
So what\'s happening Hairy, any news? is the engine being repaired? have Re work accepted liability for the work needed? Be nice to have an update matey, Please,
Cheers Bob
well hairy was asking about rotary repair service but they are not trading now so looks like he hasnt had any luck with the boys from pompey
Evening chaps, John spoke to reworx for me last week sometime, but he didnt have any luck, and has seemed to have given up on it.
So I sent a letter complaining on monday giving them 14days to respond. So pretty much counting the days now!
Im still toying with the idea of building it myself. I havnt driven the car the for 10days now, started her up today, and started in about 3 seconds!!!
not bad considering its only got compression on 1 tip out of 6!?!! any theorys?
QuoteIm still toying with the idea of building it myself.
Personally don\'t think it\'s up to you to do that matey, if you do you are accepting the faulty goods in effect! very dissapointing that RE WORX have not appeared to be helping in anyway! i\'d be using a hire car by now sending them the bill! i won\'t be taking my car there! Carl suggested you call him, Did you? he is Very helpfull by ALL accounts,
Bob
If your car only has one tip I can\'t see how you would get any compression.
Surely you would need two tips to create a chamber for any compression?
I just can\'t see an engine running at all with only one tip.
John
^^ that point was bugging me. a car will categorically not run with one tip. you need at least 2 tips to create compresion. Even then, surely itd have to be really good o that one tip to get it started.

I made enquiries as an indepenant 3rd party, as I understand it no monies passed through thier hands and the bill of sale clearly states sold with no warantee, I have not seen any documents from iether side and just going on both words.
As is usual on this site people jump in with both feet only having heard one side of the story.
Fact1 Car was sold as seen
Fact 2 Car drove perfectly well for the 3 months it was up for sale
Fact 3 Car was purchased with the understanding it had been rebuilt
Fact 4 Car drove 150odd miles without a problem
Fact 5 Car is still running in what condition noone knows
As I understand it the bill of sale was written out in the name of the former owner and sold as seen.
REworx in fairness have offered to discount the labour charge as a sign of good faith. It is not clear what happened once the car left Portsmouth, engines go pop from iether poor maintenance, defective electrics / fueling / overheating, tips dont just suddenly sh1t themselves something makes it happen.
I just hope Darren gets it sorted one way or the other, but, just blaiming REworx out of hand is not right, mind you I have come to expect nothing more from this site.

Hi again john, if a tip can let go because of "poor maintenance, defective electrics / fueling / overheating" could i have really any effect on these when just driving home?
The only thing i did was put 99 shell in the car from the petrol station near reworx.
Surely the 3month before hand would have been the key. With comment from Chris @ reworx like " we drove it like we stole it when we had it and it was fine" this was said after i brought it by the way, it sounds like it hard a hard life at reworx.

interesting quote and not exactly one to fill a buyer with confidence and so reworx sold this as a a favour and rcvd no financial gain either in monies or services
so why were they involved

In law any sale is a contract (exchange of items of monetery value). In the case of selling goods there is, enshrined in law, the guarantee that the goods are fit for purpose.
No amount of weasle words nor \'no warranty\' claims or even \'sold as seen\' can remove that contractual liability from the seller.
Private sales fall under a different heading than those that are commercial but...
In this context RE:Worx have, potentially unwittingly in doing a favour for a customer/mate, acted as an agent and the customer\'s comeback is almost certain to lie with them if it went to court and not the owner!
Quote from: John YorkeI just hope Darren gets it sorted one way or the other
Absolutely and, as there\'s no way it can be seen as reasonable that a car doesn\'t at least last the journey home. The comeback will, should Darren force the issue legally, rest with either RE:Worx or the original seller.
Quote from: John Yorkejust blaiming REworx out of hand is not right, mind you I have come to expect nothing more from this site.
Time for a new record John - this one\'s a bit scratched. Had this topic been posted on FDUK then the same opinions would be found. :2Rolleyes :Yawn

Brings into question the quality of the alleged rebuild and the competence of whoever it was who did it doesn\'t it?
If I were Darren and didn\'t get reasonable satisfaction from the seller (whoever that turns out to be legally speaking) I\'d want a decent second opinion on if it had been rebuilt at all. It could be that the owner/seller was trying to pull a fast one?

These are good points to consider. Failure could have been caused by an ancillary part (e.g. fuel pump, ECU, etc) and not be directly anyone\'s fault.
It would then be for the courts to decide if it should\'ve lasted longer from the sale before it could reasonably be expected to be the new owner\'s problem and not one inherited with the original sale.
I\'d suspect the lawyers would make the money on this one.
a lot might depends on the reworx rebuild as well. Does it have a receipt? What does the receipt state was done? If you want to have a legal case, it might be worth getting an independent specialist (maybe some one like WGT?) to remove the engine and strip it down as they may spot things that you may not. Especially if corners have been cut on the rebuild that contradict with the receipt you might have?
I am quite willing to strip the motor, owner present, photograph the whole proceedings.........to determine the cause of the failure. If another vendor is involved this might cause a problem. So to be frank,I will act as a 3rd party and only do the stripping down. The photographic evidance can then be used for whatever purpose.

I go back to \'sold as seen\' You all seem to miss the point this car was running and had been test driven by a number of potential buyers. I dont claim to have any knowledge of law, all I understand are facts and the fact is this car was running fine upto and including the sale, what happened after that is anyones guess, I do not blame Darren for the engine going pop [if it has] it could be any one of the ancillaries giving up after 12-15 years of abuse, I dont see any other tuner / builder rebuilding for free if a fuel pump gives up or a coil breaks down, injector blocked- the car was cheap by anyones standard and was reflected in the bill of sale - sold as seen.
I am soooo glad I dont have a rotary business:3Confused
And Iain - the record might be scratched but it dont stop me playing it:p , if something more constructive was offered rather than the same \'few\' putting in the same drivel without any positive comments other than \'you are another poor victim\' Lets bash the builder / tuner, mind its the same guys that heap prase on the selected few - who can do no wrong:3Confused :Giggle .
...........
Another \'fact\' John York is that many guys in this club (me included) would have (previous to this) been impressed and re-assured by the fact that the advert had RE-WORX stamped or used all over it, and would have taken this to mean that the car could be bought with some confidence and that it would survive rather longer than the trip home!
I think ERA\'s offer is a good idea, and it would be nice for us all to know what is going on in this engine! Any idea how you are going to proceed Hairy?
Good luck, Bob
Do me the honour and spell my name right:p
I suggest you spend a bit more time learning about the workings of these dasterdly machines and understand what is offered and the way the car was accepted before you come on here all high and mighty.
For my part I have actualy got off my butt and tried to help this guy out not sat at my keyboard and blustered at how terrable this or that tuner is.
Like I said, you need a bit of impartiality instead of grinding your axe all the time.
maybe take ur own advice there john

I am glad you agree the guy needs help with this, he has had a raw deal hasn\'t he?
Quoteyou need a bit of impartiality instead of grinding your axe all the time.
What i need, is to know that if a guy buys a car from a reputable rotary specialist (whose name is used to advertize the car) There would be some support and backup from the seller to ensure the new owner is a satisfied customer with a reliable car, without all the hassle Hairy has had.

Sold as seen is not legally acceptable from a motor trader, neither is no warranty given or implied. The car must be fit for purpose. I\'m not saying that this car was or wasn\'t just making an observation.
As for the so glad you don\'t have a rotary business, make that any car business, you would have the same problems whether it revolved or went up and down.
I don\'t wanna jump any bandwagon here, as I know **** all about the whole situation at the end of the day but I think oldones suggestion is a good and generous one,
Well done for putting up to help that man. Mucho respect.

Sorry mate but im sure it is clear on this thread that this is his last resort as there is nobody trying to sort this out from any other party and like most of us its very hard for him to go all out legal without this support at least.
all that will happen if this "dirty laundry"/"witch hunt" as you see it or justice as we see it stops is that he will be scared by the rotary for life most likely even if he gets it rebuilt at his cost and will end up hating the rotary cause and in turn our car prices take another beating.
there are some of opinions and resentment on here which is understanable but mostly what i can see is someone persuing justice.
Have to say looking at this thread that perhaps sometime it might not be anyones fault at all.
Now before anyone jumps on me hear me out:
I sold my Purple RX7 at the end of last year. in my ownership she ran perfectly made great power and never let me down, after 3yrs i sold her for a change. Lets say i took people out for test drives and it was fine, then the new owner came and bought it and for unknown reasons the car didn\'t make it back to his home (which was miles away), is that really my fault because as far as i was concerned it was a perfect car ???
My point is if the new owner then wanted me to pay for the rebuild it aint gonna happen as it wasn\'t my fault :Hammer
Now ReWorx recently have had a bad name from a few dealings and workmanship they have done, but perhaps this was just one of those cases where the car gave up and no one was to blame ???
PS - my Purple RX7 got home fine without fault just making a point like :D
I believe Oldones wise words are possibly the right course of action, however Era if you pull the engine before the legal stuff happens it could make the case void as engine has been tampered with and parts might have been disguised (eyes of the law thinking here).
Deffo a tricky story this one ???
Gurj :2Confused
the ebay advert used re-worx name to sell the car..by stating recent rebuild rotary specialist re-worx and infering that car would out last lower mileage examples because of this care and attention
then as hairy has posted the quote from chris
"WE DROVE IT LIKE WE STOLE IT"this has been a example of some very strange dealings
why were re worx involved if they were recieving no monetary gain
why would the dealer be involved once again for no monetary gain
who was orig seller or is he keeping quiet
hairy has been treated badly and no one can reasonably expect a car to not even last the journey home
this is not a witch hunt but several people me included have been on the recieving end of what we feel is shoddy workmanship and people new to the scene need to be made aware of the choices they have with who they use and as adults it is then up to them to decide who they use
after my 2nd rebuild and ridicoulous compression figures i have used carl hayward for my car and have to say his service and attitude has been fantastic even to the point i picked my car up wednesday after its rebuild and friday night at work i rcvd a call from carl just asking if everything was ok and to keep in touch and if anything no matter how small comes up contact him and he would sort it out
now thats service and the attention to detail and neatness of work has been fantastic
people will allways have their favourite tuner but the idea of a forum is to share experiences good or bad and help others to make an informed decision

is it wrong for me to think as soon as i brought my fd im expecting it to pop so i can go single!
when i test drove it i was told it had been rebuilt 10k miles ago; did the ebay advert suggest otherwise?
I\'m with John Yorke on this, as i touched on at the last bit of my big post. It was sold with the seller\'s name on the receipt, not Re:Worx. They received no money. Its nothing to do with them.
It doesn\'t matter what the ebay advert said, it wasn\'t sold through ebay.
Sure, it was driven hard when they had it. I sure as **** ragged it through the gears a few times (as i did with another Rex i test drove two weeks back fro Paradox) because thats what it would get when its owned by someone. A test drive when you pootle about is no use whatsoever.

Hmm, makes an interesting read anyway! My thoughts would be for hairyhoover to know who he paid the money, and go much in the same way as he is, see what his legal rights are. If it is the sellers responsibility, they should have no option to put the car right or refund the money paid for it. If they dont, its time for the small clains court. If it isnt there responsibility, sorry mate but youve been unlucky. just my 2p worth.
Good point there John, it has got a little like that. Anyway, your cheque is in the post, sorry for the delay, been a bit skint of late!

Not quite Jon, think if you had nothing to do with your life and looked through all threads relating to problems like this you will find your very own Posse:2Rolleyes Deduct comments from those on this thread and you would have something more constructive to look at, sure I use REworx have done since they have existed I have also used most of the other vendors, any problems I have had I have managed to sort one way or the other without going public.
I truly feel sorry for Darren and have made enquires on his behalf, if and when paperwork is produced I think you will find this has nothing to do with REworx, they I think have been stitched just as much as Darren, but hey as stated before it makes good reading - how tragic is that?:3Confused
I think this thread has run it\'s course and should be closed.
It is not of any benefit to anyone from this point on.
Maybe it should even be removed as it is only giving bad publicity now to the club, rotaries and a specialist, who it is very difficult to pin the blame on anyone directly or indirectly.Maybe it was just one of those things.
I have had a couple of chat\'s with Darren, and I am sure that many of us will help him to rebuild his engine himself, this is the way forward.
Come on everyone,let\'s pull together to help Darren enjoy his car as it is meant to be!

Right then guys,
Thread will now be closed as its run its course and is now getting unconstructive.
You have to remember thread was here to try to help Hairyhoover but has now become a slanging thread so will now be closed, please try to keep it civil guys, we are not here to point fingers and make judgement calls without proof.
HairyHoover - please take no offence from the closure of the thread, i believe there are a few options open to you via this thread and hopefully you can get a happy solution and outcome, thanks,
