Title: Road Tax
Post by: mr.bishi on March 02, 2007, 08:40:54 PM
I\'ve done a search as i figured it would be a popular question but couldn\'t find it. (although i do suck at searching:Giggle )

How do i go about getting my logbook changed from 2292 to 1146cc? Is it as simple as filling in the correct cc or is there more to it.....My tax is due soon.

Are you saying you can reduce your road tax by changing the log book (V5) to the correct cc instead of the government rated cc?
I\'d no idea you could do this.

What\'s the background to this? Has anyone done it? 12A rotary? Registered pre CO2 regime at 2292cc, whereas actual swept vol is 1146 or so.
Thanks in anticipation.

I did a search and it all seems shrouded in mystery still as some threads contradict others, some say the dvla have got wise, some say they\'ve done it,some say they\'ve been refused,so it would be most helpfull if you could either say yay or nay rather than saying do a search :cool

Also the doubling the capacity thing confuses me......why is it 573 x 2 x 2? Isn\'t there 3 firing strokes per revolution of the eccentric shaft? So shouldn\'t it be 573 x 3 x 2?

Or am i talking ar5e?

my rx7\'s have always been registered as 1.3cc, ive always understood it as that, from what i have read or heard if you change it and the DVLA question it just get a reputable rotary garage to verify it
it cant help to try?

I wrote to the DVLA and regarding this issue and got a reply stating that the enquiry would be passed to the appropriate department, and I would receive a reponse in due course.

That was when I still had my 1982 RX7 over a year ago, I guess they lost the e-mail.

It never occurred to me to go to a rotary specialist and get some kind of authentication from them. Seems like the best suggestion to me.

By the way, not wishing to hijack the thread, but if anyone knows of a Gen 1 RX7 going cheap in the South East drop me a PM as I miss mine (I\'m sure I could squeeze two child seats in the back of an RX7!).:Thumbs-up

Ant.

Yeah, have been tempted by a couple of them so far. Am also looking to get a MIG welder in the next couple of weeks (Civic arches need doing!), so perhaps once I have got the hang of that I shall get my hands on a project.

Wish I hadn\'t sold my RX7 last year, but had a bit of a reality check - it was too good to mess about with (I really want to create a track/sprint car doing all the work myself), and wasn\'t getting used enough!

Hi, my Tuppence worth.

For every revolution the rotor does, the shaft does three. So for every rev of the shaft, you get two firings of the \'chamber\' ie one for each rotor. This is what gives the capacity as being the 2292 cc. But its swept volume is only 1146cc. If you had a two stroke piston engine you could get a similar effect.

This is a thread will will keep going and going as its been brought up so many times and still DVLA are still not being consistant.  I actually wrote to them some while back for my FD and they did state that they have reviewed taxation for rotaries, mine was classed as a 2600.  I now have a couple of FC\'s now and one is as a 1300 and the other 2400 so cheap for one car and not other. It seems as long as its in the cheap catagory then it stays that way.  If you enquire or change something then this is when they let you know !!!  Saying that ...... a change of address and ownership did not change it.   I think its just one of those things, some will be happy and others not and until DVLA get their act together then this will always be the case.
