Hi ya guys
Pretty much exactly what it says in the subject how do I go about changing the downpipe and how hard a job is it, I\'m hoping to tackle this tomorrow.
Alan
i really wanted to know how complicated this is too because i thought it was a simlpe like 4 bolts off and then it slides off type thing like the other bits of a exhaust but when i ranG RE:WORX the guy said it could take over 8 hours as sometimes they can be very difficult and its either very easy or very difficult! now im so put off im not getting one.
by the way alan i got your package no problems :) as thankfully unlike the doughnuts sending me packages lately you packed it very well. thanks for that.
on the FC its not tooo bad - unbolt from the turbo and drop
no idea about the FD due to the twin turbo set up ??
every thing can take a long time esp if you start rounding nuts or snapping them
I\'ll let you know how it goes I\'m gonna have a crack at it tomorrow so I hope it goes ok, i have to admit i got my mum to wrap it:)
A
I\'ve heard the nuts can be a pain in the ass and the access to them is ****e, i\'m hoping cause I\'ve got so much removed from the bay that it should give me pretty good access though.
Alan
It can be a mare, make sure you soak the nuts in wd the night before. Iirr you have to remove the steering linkage to remove the frontpipe.
let us know how you get on!
It can be an ar$e of a job. You\'ve gotta remove a lot of stuff so that you can get access to the bolts. Even then there is bugger all space and the nuts can be really seized onto the bolts. Even when it\'s unbolted it can be difficult to get off the bolts due to lack of space. Good luck with it, the difference is worth it once its done :yes

I did this the other week!!
You will need to unbolt the exhaust system first, remove all the rubber intake pipes to the turbos, inluding the pressure relief valve for the second turbo & blow off valve!
Now you can access all the bolts without a problem. the bottom 2 you will probably have to do from under the car, the front top you will be able to get at from the top. the only bugger is the rear top..... for this you will need the 14mm socket on a UJ and a long extension bar which you will have to run under the brake survo. basicaly you want the ratchet to be in the gap between the servo, inner wing, strut top & fire wall (above the heatsink for the fuel pump regulator) once they are all off you will have to remove the conecting rod to the steering rack & unplug the sensor that sits in the down pipe.... The plug for this is by the joint of the UIM & LIM.

Jono your a legend mate, luckily I have all the intake pipes off inc ypipe, airbox intercooler etc removed so I think i\'ve got a fighting chance.
Thanks guys
Alan
Well well, look at what I found after a small effort....

Just started this job and im stuck already. I cant seem to remove the cast intake pipe from the rear turbo. I\'ve removed the bolts that hold it but it catches against the clutch master cylinder when i try and remove it, any ideas or tips anyone?
Had the same problem, it will come out the top with a little persuation if you know what I mean! The downpipe is the same, it wont pass the rear turbo. Have fun. If you want a hand give us a shout
Thanks for the offer mate.Managed to get this sucker off tonight. I had to loosen the clutch pedal so i could squeese the cast intake pipe past the clutch master cylinder. The dp came off pretty easily, no snapped studs at all. Tommorrow im going to fit the stainless dp and mid pipe. Any idea where i can get some gaskits for the 3" hole on the headers?
