Hello all
I went to get my fd dynoed yesterday with my friend who has a bmw 328is, he should have 193bhp at the fly, and I should have 255bhp at the fly.
BITTER DISAPPOINTMENT
the bmw had 200.8bhp ath the fly,
and me,
192.2bhp at the fly :Grrr
I have been told that I have a massive boost pressure leak, resulting in a loss of 60bhp.
First of all I have no idea where to start, as according to primary sources, there are 11 solenoids that have some degree of control over the turbos and their behaviour.
There is a massive push of air that you can feel coming from somewhere underneath the alternator.
PLEASE CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME?
Any info would be helpful.
Cheers
Tobias
To lost that much boost somthign has split, do a search on boost problems and you\'ll get an idea but first port of call is to check all the bigger couplers on intercooler and turbo pipes.
a
Cheers mate
Took the induction pipes off and found a tiny hole, which wouldn\'t b able to lose 60 break, and also took intercooler pipes off, and no holes or splits. After doing that I still couldn\'t see s**t.
Ive got it booked in at some rx7 specialists in portsmouth this coming thursday, gonna cost at least £200 :( Then i\'ll know what it is obviously, and I\'ll be more aware of the future problems for me and others :Thumbs-up
Will post new thread on arrival home from the garage
Cheers

I\'m back from portsmouth, the garage are called reworx, there website is //www.reworx.com, they are Rx7 specialists. It was definately worth the trip down from Kingston.
The owner is called Jeff, and he has the biggest balls in the whole world and is the absolute daddy.
The rx was on the dyno, the big fan was blowin, the car was at about7000rpm, hes got his hands in and can feel the leak, 15 minutes later, it was fixed.
I am now a customer for life and I got my 260 bhp back, The most happiest man in the world. Never ever gonna take the car anywhere else.
If anyone has any probs with rx\'s, take it there, they proper cheap and like I said the guy knows his s**t.
Thanks for your help allstar
Cheers
Tobias (happiest man alive):D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Reworx come very highly rated on here.
Well done to them and glad yours is fixed, nothing worse than a boost leak !!!! I can vouch for that not being fun !
Quote from: tguilleminIt was definately worth the trip down from Kingston.
You should give Hayward rotary a try if you have anymore issues, carl really knows his stuff and geoff makes a wicked cuppa :p + it\'s alot closer to kingston than portsmouth!! :3gears-lh
Read my sig and weep................Now thats what Geff, Chris & Max do best..lots and lots of Power. Welcome to the world of RE:WORX Tokens and not Beer Tokens.:D
I\'m back from the heavens and have plummetted in to hell
ITS REBUILD TIME
I have an fd 93,
I was pulling away from a junction, warm engine at 3000rpm and the power just dissappeared. No accerator response whatsoever.
Went down a side road to let it idle and check, but pulled over and it cut out. I knew that the engine was shagged, I feared the obvious. Got it home and it just cut out.
There I was, brickking it, thinking where I was getting the cash from. Turned the car back on, off the key and it started, I was amazed that it was running, it was running at about 300-500 rpm. Very concerned. opened the bonnet and the engine was shaking from side to side about 6 inches either side of the engine resting position.
The exhaust was just going bang bang bang constantly, and firing 2 foot flames out the exhaust.
I KNEW IT WAS BAD
I rung reworx in portsmouth and from my description I rebuild is needed.
CAN ANYONE HELP???????????????
Reworx quoted as an estimate £3500-£4000, a fu*k load of cash for a poor person, there work and knowledge is highly recommended by many.
But does anyone know where such work can be found for a slightly cheaper amount of cash
cheers
Tobias
That is terrible news mate and I feel for you :(
Depends on how handy you are with a spanner but you could try it yourself.
If that seams a bit daunting you could look on here for a second hand engine that is another option but be warned that could go bang too.
See how much you would save by getting somone local to take the engine out and sending it down to them.
Problem is that a decent rebuild will cost this much it seams but phone around the vendors at the top of the page and see.
All the best with it anyway
what was the mileage on the engine?
Thats not a bad price im just having myn rebuilt at WGT and im looking around that figure too.
Sorry to hear that dude...i know how you feel..must be gutting :(
try super7autos in Henfield (Nr Gatwick). //www.super7autos.co.uk or 01903810139. His rebuilds are to a very good standard and his standard build is less than reworx standard build price.
IMO you should get a decent rebuild done...not a budget job (ie dont just replace the tip that blew!) otherwise youll find you\'ll more likely than not be doing the job again in no time!
I\'ll give them a ring, i only had about 58k on the engine aswell, proper sickening.
I\'m current on the case of borrowing from the bank of dad. Got the student loan 2day as well but that didnt even make a dent in the final cost for the car.
How long would the car be gone for if its having a rebuild?
Student? running an FD? are you mad?
LOL
58K mileage isn\'t that bad, bit early I spose, but they only last between 60-100k tops...
And yeah, it WILL cost you about £3-4K for a proper rebuild... :(
IMO, you;\'d be better off keeping the car, getting the proper rebuild done, then you know you\'ve got a solid engine to build from.
How long would it take da garage to do a rebuild? 1 week, 2, 3?
depends on the garage...i know super7autos have a good turnaround time though. its not unheard for some garages to keep your car for over a month...i know Jason @ super7 wont have it for anywhere near that long as long as all goes to plan!
a busy garage is a good sign...
never trust a garage that hasn\'t got any work on.. :)
Indeed. Mine was in for a good long time at Carls for its rebuild with extra bits; 3mm seals and a street port. I reckon if you\'re going to have a rebuild done it\'s better to get it done by the best and accept that it\'ll take a bit longer due to the fact everyone else wants stuff doing too. I\'d rather wait a bit longer for a great job than have an o.k one done in a couple of weeks.
agreed.
and it *IS* an ideal time to get some other nice bits done too...
I\'m gettin the exact same stuff done, 3mm seals and street port, also apexi power fc. What bhp are you running????
